  • why dou you need trigger? its the same thing lol, i really dont get it why to use triggers

  • triggering IS absolutely cheating. If it weren't then take them off and play without them. Triggering allows you (among other things) to have one foot be very weak in comparison to the other but with triggering they will both sound perfect. Every time. Not to mention the artificially increased power of the sound. I can't believe anyone would have the nerve to suggest it isn't cheating. It clearly is. No self respecting musician would use these things. They create a illusion, not a reality.

  • @compworld1 SO what you basically are saying there is that if you amplify your bassdrum with a trigger you are cheating ?.. Guitarists are doing exactly the same, they are using an electric amplifier to do anything.... So you want a guitar player that plays electric guitar to play without his amp ?.. That IS what you are saying.. Playing with triggers is actually HARDER than playing without, your technique needs to be SPOT ON.. No body hears all the mistakes on a mic !..

  • im a guitarist, so pretty much triggers work on the same principle as a distortion pedal? i think? you might know what I mean

  • If they sound "as good without the trigger" then why do it? Answer: those drums will not sound good mic'd. Period. Ask a studio tech. FYI, I've used triggers=) Like I said, not saying it's wrong. But it IS cheating, don't get it twisted.

  • People who say this is cheating are right, but they don't know why. What you might not have been able to tell from this video is that those bass drum hits are ultra quiet compared to say... Abe Cunningham's hits. The sound made by triggers is illusory, the list of drummers who play this fast and have an acoustic drum that is sounding off properly is VERY short. Not saying it's wrong or you shouldn't do it, but come on. Be honest. It's cheating. If your drum brain fried onstage, you'd be effed.

  • Any tips on achieving these speeds??

  • @MrStevendrums Have crazy strong ankles.

  • DUDE both sound awesome! Triggers sound more crisp. What bass drum heads are you using? Sounds almost as good as the trigger!

  • what module do you have man? im looking at the roland td-9 , but im still not sure what to get? any input?

  • I used to be anti-triggering, but last night i went to a gig where all the bands has disgusting kick sounds except for the headliners, who i discovered was using a trigger. Now im considering getting one for live stuff so i dont have to put up with shithouse sound guys who dont know how to mic a kick for metal. What triggers do you use and what module do you run? Thanks.

  • Very impressive that your volume without triggers is pretty much as good as your volume with them.

  • people who think triggers are cheating are just mad they spent all their money on crack rather than on the proper equipment

  • After playing in metal bands for 10 plus years... having HUNDREDS of crappy sound guys.. with crappy mics and crappy processing equipment though crappy PA's, I simply got tired of putting SO MUCH effort into developing my bass drum style and technique.. And I got SICK of people not being able to hear it! I used to believe triggers were cheating.. and if your using them to make things "easier" they ARE.. however if your using them to simply get a consistant live bass drum sound THEY ARE NOT!!

  • If you're playing really fast double bass then you kinda need triggers so it can actually be heard. Without the triggers in this video the bass drum was incredibly hard to hear [at least for me] and the triggers just made it audible. It's not really cheating because I doubt many people can play that fast and play it loud at the same time.

  • @r4pt0rP5K Then the drummer needs to practice more and put more time into tuning his drums. Triggers are not a necessity even for those tempoes. If the drums are tuned and miked properly, then they should sound good.

  • fuck triggers, worst invention ever.........

  • @Dr8co1

Yeah, they're cheating. I don't even consider people who use them musicians.

  • @iTriedVoodooOnce Alright dude. haha i play with triggers and without them. i play as fast and same power with both. i just dont want overtones in my bass.

  • @iTriedVoodooOnce Everyone from Iron Maiden, to Lynard, to Queen, to the Faceless, to Pantera triggers. I guess none of them are musicians either huh?

  • is joey jordision feet ?

    ahah

    awesome

  • very nice work! good double pedal example! I always wanted to see the difference between the two.

BTW nice shoes, I have the same lol

  • it still sounds the same?!

  • @666Nickw nah i hear the dif but as mentioned by some ignorant ppl they say they r cheating well they are not cheating then like u i'll tell u why u can adust the sensitivity of the triggers so it doesnt pick up unwanted strokes or over tones and only what u want just like a real drumset same shit as a guitar

  • skinny jeans ftw man and nice drumming

  • nice...i hate when people use triggers and make them sound like shit...this sounds real good tho good job!!!

  • This motherfucker has 3 legs.

  • @xGAVENx lol at least what are those 32nds?

  • hey dude! one question, can i plug a bass drum mic into a trigger or drum module? thanks

  • @samyfernandez Erm, in theory, yes. ( I know you didn't ask me, just tryina help )

If you where able to isolate the sound completely, by either reducing, EQing or gating, i know you can then run that into computers and use it is a trigger signal, I'm not sure if the same aplies to drum modules though.

But surely it's just easier to buy triggers, rather than go through all of that, and then have a risk of it not working?

  • My god.. anyone who has played a live gig knows that when people are doing fast double bass, it sounds like a rumble... unless who have the best sound crew and drum tech.. you might be about to pull it off.. but Triggers make it easier for drums to sound clean.

So what if it takes less power to make the same volume... what would you rather.. playing really fast so it sounds like a rumble or where you can actually hear the distinct hits?

  • triggers are simply made to give an edge on the sound the drummers produce. some drummers however take it to the extent to where they use it to exaggerate their talent which is why i consider tiggering to be CHEATING. real talent comes from natural sound. i can name several bands like Slayer,Lamb of god and Vader that dont use triggering and sound just as good to those that do. i consider those that dont to be 100's of times better.what im trying to say is dont be a pussy and trigger/go natural

  • @speedmetaldemon666 okey, i think that is save to say, that Slayer, Lamb of God and Vader, do not trigger their drums, but, in the case of lamb of god, chris adler REPLACE, every bass drum hit, with one single sample recorded before, its not triggering but it has almost the same function. hope it helps

  • omfg TRIGGERS ARE NOT CHEATING U FREAKIN MORONS IM SICK OF HEARING THAT! Its no different than playing on an awesome pa system with awesome kick mics and compressors.

  • To understand it more clearly i'll explain it with an example.. imagine a drummer playing in a gig for 2 to 3 hours without triggers and produce the same high volume in bass drum that triggers do! with some really fast songs it would be almost impossible. but with triggers, he would hit the bass drum so softly, and still produce a high volume bass drum sound. and obviously he could go faster just because it's easier than without triggers. NO MORE SWEAT!!! TRIGGERS ARE HERE! IT IS CHEATING!!!

  • @zampination ok dude im a guitar player myself and im not bashing your reasons for saying triggers a cheating.... but ill leave you with this when you get on a triggered set can you play better i didnt think so and watch what you say because about 90% of recorded drums today are triggered look it up.....later bro...

  • @combyjames you re a guitarist too so you will probably understand this example. imagine triggers as a guitar effect that makes your alternate picking to be heard like downstrokes all the time!!! (i'm talking about distortion metal style to get it clearly) You could play master of puppets all day long over 240bpm!!! that is cheating!!!

  • @combyjames that's why i think (in my opinion always) that drum triggers can be considered as cheating! i'm not saying that it is only this though... the use of them ofcourse is to make bass drum to be heard clearly and nothing more.. on the other side even weapons were made to preserve peace, but only war they bring!! that doesnt mean that triggers are only used for clear sound! i think people take advantage of triggers and use them basically to play hard songs the easy way!

  • am a guitarist and our band's drummer told me about triggers and called the use of them as cheating. without knowing the reason.. so i decided to do a little research here on youtube... and here is what i think about triggers and their use... and please take my opinion more seriously than any other that posted here simply cause i'm not a drummer.. HERE IT IS!!!

IT IS CHEATING!! cause it takes less effort from the drummer to hit the bass drum and make the same volume as without trigger.

  • what is trigger ?

  • Seriously, why would it be cheating?!

    I just totally don't understand

  • @questionoftime123 it would be cheating if the drummer tapped while playing , did hits that were like an inch from the drumhead, making the drummer sound like he was playing faster than he could

  • Nice playing. Can you please explain to me; What is it that triggers do?

  • its attached to the drum hoop and detects vibrations. (there are triggers that attach to pedals too, youtube it) the trigger is hooked up to a module and the module is hooked up to a speaker to produce a midi sound. so basically you can tap the bass drum anywhere from very lightly to very hard and still get the same volume of sound out of the speaker. you can customize the sensitivity and sound etc

  • Thanks. Now i understand while some people call it cheating.....

  • how much are bass drum triggers with all the module stuff?

I might invest in one i love the sound.

idk why ppl call this cheating...

  • oh ok dude, thanks for this, I really can hear it.

  • Very nice! Shows that triggers are not "cheating" like many call it.

  • most of the people who call it cheating dont know how triggers work.

  • @blindedbydarkness it depends how you use them! u can still cheat with them!

  • how much would a module and triggers cost

  • good triggers with a good mod with a amp is about $900

  • @drumerdude5656 hey dude, one question, can i plug a bass drum mic to a trigger module, and use it like the same function? please reply, thanks

  • thats hella good, but im still confused how they work, do they just play by them selves when the triggers on? or do they just improve sound quallity?

  • you also need a sound module, and there are different parameters built inside for you to adjust:D

  • they improve the sound quallity and allows you ti kick a litle bit soft and sound luod aswell

  • @666111 it works out amazingly for bands that have lower tuned guitars, coz most triggered bass drum samples seem to be click-based to it cuts through the wall of guitars awesomely :D

  • @evanfity you still have to play the pedals for the triggers to work all the trigger does is sense the hits from the bass drum pedal

  • @evanfity i have the same doubt

  • yes axis A longboard

  • what kind of pedals are you using??? axis??? al's??
