Still gives me chills. I miss those days. I don't even know if I'd want an NBA team back, the NBA is really lame now. They lost all the attitude they had in the 90's that made it the premiere league.
they should come back with those jersey and logo and draft players from college and have 6 teams in the northwest division reinnovate key arena or build a new arena
@m2diggs The Seattle SuperSonics, moron. The Oklahoma City Thunder are their OWN franchise..they get none of the Sonics history. Hopefully, Seattle will return one day, like the Browns did.
@LuigiLaker really? than why do the Lakers claim that they have 16 titles when they have won 11 during their time in LA.?those first 5 came when they played in Minneapolis. who's the moron now motherfucker? "Sonics" fans, please answer make question.

I was a Sonics fan through the entire Payton/Kemp era and even after Kemp left for Cleveland. Nobody played the type of uptempo exciting brand of basketball like the Sonics did. When they moved to Oklahoma City I couldnt cheer for them anymore. Its a shame because they have a very nice young nucleus there and Kevin Durant is gonna be a beast for a long time...I just wish he was still wearing a SONICS uniform!
I had chills going up and down my spine. I particularly loved it when they had the old Center Coliseum, and in particular, the logo in the middle of the floor... totally loved it... was one of the best stadiums in the US, regardless of it's size.
Not only do I get sad about the Sonics not being in Seattle when I see a thing like this, but I ger PISSSSED that S Kemp threw his career away the way he did! If you check this guy out circa 93 to 96...it just blows your mind what a phenomenal player he was. He really had no real go to moves, but was an all around great ball player...to say nothing of us his freak body and athleticism.
I used to think Jordan was the best until I saw these replays and began to notice how the refs babied him all the time. He would get away with obvious open court charges, get fouls behind the arc when he missed and get free free-throws. It was ugly how often he got rediculous calls or no calls when he would foul someone. He was a great player, why did he need the pussy calls all the time? I wish he would have been criticized more.
if anyone needs to critisize someone then its you. wth your talking about. there is difference between knowing the game and understanding the basketball. jordan had the best skills, best knowledge and the best cordination..everyone can do what jordan did as long as you have all what jordan had

With the Lakers losing Game 6 of the Finals by 39 points (trailing by 42 in the 4th) and the Sonics gone...this clearly indicates that Stern, or has no interest in the West Coast...
While I am a Laker fan, I also enjoyed watching the Sonics, particularly during the 90's with Glove, Reign, Big Smooth, Detlef.
I really do not know If I want to support the NBA anymore. I can accept a few losses, but with the Lakers getting killed and the Sonics....I don't know If I can support the NBA.
This makes me cry. You know we're not going yo get a new team as long as Stern is the commish. I blame Howard Schultz the most, then Penis Face Bennet and then his butt-buddy Stern.
How about this for a name, The Oklahome City Bombers.

Im Glad the Supersonics our moving to OKC the city is not as bad as all of you people say. The only bad thing is the horrible weather. in the Winter its frezzing and in the spring and Summer its either really hot or Tornado ready. The Supersonics name and colors are both changing.
I'm a life long (since 74/75) fan of the Celtics but I want you Seattle fans to know how sorry i am to see this happen. Seattle is a great city with a great tradition....OKC is...well..a mini Dallas....sheesh.
Lets hope the Supersoncis may be reborn like the Cleveland Browns were. This sucks.
I lived in Washington State for 14 years, but only recently saw a Sonics game, though in my current home, Denver. When the Nuggets poured on 168 against the Sonics.
Seattle needs the sonics keep them there! Move the fucking LA Clippers to OKC! I'm from Minnesota and My grandpa was telling me how pissed off everyone was when the lakers left for L.A., THERE ARE NO LAKES IN L.A. FOR THE LOVE OF GOD! GO SUPERSONIC FANS! FIGHT THOSE NBA BASTARDS AND REDNECK OKC PIGS WITH EVERYTHING YOU HAVE!
I'm from Vancouver and we already had the Grizzlies taken away from us, so now PLEASE!!! Don't take away the sonics, they're the closest team for people living in vancouver.
I've lived in Seattle all my life and remember going to games in the old Seattle Center Coliseum... Fred Brown, Slick Watts, Tommy Burleson, the Wheedle... buying the record album after the Sonics took it all in 1979... in the 90s, watching them pile up 50-win seasons only to run into the 72-10 Bulls juggernaut in 1996... and now, this evening, perhaps the final game in Seattle. Bennett is a jugheaded lying azz kisser and doesn't deserve a Little League team much less an NBA franchise. LOSER!!!
Clay never wanted to keep the team in Seattle. The damning emails were uncovered by the Seattle Times yesterday. Chalk one up for the city of Seattle. They're staying in Seattle for at least 2 more years.
I read that Clay wants to keep the team name, colors, history, etc. in Seattle. Honestly, thanks for taking the car but giving me the spare set of keys. Maybe David Stern hasn't realized that if the Hornets were to move to Seattle and become the Sonics, WTF will happen to the Hornets history? Plain and simple, Sonics leave Seattle, I'm done with the NBA. And as for Mr. Stern, I'm a hardcore Dennis Rodman and Chicago Bulls fan, so fuck you Stern!
Do whatever the HELL you can to save your Sonics. At ANY COST.
as I posted in an earlier comment, I was scared sh*tless when the Rockets were about to up and move to Louisville. I STILL hate Bud Adams for moving the Oilers to Tennessee.
Hold Clay Bennett hostage, assassinate him, do WHATEVER, just save your Sonics!
i read through a bunch of the comments and it seems like a fan from every different team doesnt want the sonics to go. save our sonics. fuck you clay bennett. fuck you david stern
1.800.562.6000. There is a proposal in front of the St. legislature that includes $150 million of private money and the same from public funds to refurbish The Key. It is esential that we get this heard in front of the legislature before next Friday. If this is not done now an opportunity will be lost. When gifts like this come about, it is prudent to act. Please call the legislative hotline and let them know that this needs to happen NOW! I encourage everyone out here there to call.
sure, there are other cities that deserve the boot, too. but seattle is cream of the crop when it comes to "GET THE F OUT"
seattle doesn't deserve a team and more. OKC won't be good either. bring something to pittsburgh or austin or san diego. how do places like memphis (smallest NBA viewship of all current markets, 2nd smallest population) and new orleans (2nd and 3rd) still have teams!!!
Hey Uncle Rico.. Who here said this wasn't twelve years ago? This shows the Sonics in the NBA Finals against the best team in NBA History, with the full city of Seattle behind them. The sonics made the playoffs 3 years ago. Seattle deserves a team. We have a had a team and backed them for over 40 years! Look at our record this year. We average more fans then the New orleans Hornets. Seattle is also close to Asia, where the NBA is trying to attract from. Not to mention metro population of 3.2 mil
Hey El Rico, San Diego used to have a team. They were called the Clippers. Then they got moved (sound familiar?). You just contradicted your own argument.
I live in LA and the Lakers are my team but I always loved the Sonics. I am 25 years old, so i am just about the right age to have grown up with seeing Payton throw up crazy passes to Kemp and watching Kemp just destroy the rim. My jaw always hit the floor. I am sorry Seattle, I feel for ya.
OKla city is a dump. I've been there and it sucks, rednecks who love football not HOOP. It's a disgrace a truly GREAT city that Seattle is should have this happen to them over the money an owner or previous owner can pocket. The NBA will fail in ok city. it's a run down dump with a small population. "NBA,I love it." not really.
it really is a travesty that the NBA is pulling the plug on Seattle...even though i'm a New Yorker, Seattle was one of the teams I traditionally rooted for in the west.
Celts fan here. What's happening in Seattle should not end with the Sonics leaving, but with David Stern landing in jail for being the manipulative lying fraud that he's always been.
If the Sonics leave I wouldn't be surprised if Every starbucks in Washington state was burned to the ground the next day.
What a sad day for sports. David Stern sucks. He's a friend to nobody by the almighty dollar.
american's can't stop bush and the republicans till november but we can stop this BS if we make enough noise, Take a minute email your senator. What karmanos and the whale did to Hartford should never be allowed to happen again. It could be your favorite team sports fans.
Stern cares more about "Asian" market then preserving league's dignity...ridiculous!!!!
The whole league has become a circus...
Sterns' 2010 Plan - Games will be shorten to 2mins/quarter so that the fans can enjoy a 40 min performance which includes dancing bears on trampolines while midget brothers balance an elephant on their palms; and players will wear Rollerblades.
SONICS LEAVING SEATTLE IS A JOKE...and I'm not even a Sonics fan...
Stand up, Oklahoma City. Please let Clay no that, as the honorable and classy fans your proved yourself to be last year (hosting the NO team), that you won't let yourselves be the beneficiary of what is an outright theft from the Seattle fans. Pretty it up anyway you like, but you know in your hearts that you'd be guilty of "receiving stolen property", and I can understand why any city would allow itself to get a franchise in this manner.
Yet another Sacramento fan here. I hate what they're doing to Seattle, it's not right. It'll come up in Sacramento too, but I have a feeling Stern will step in there. I don't know how or why he can pick and choose his battles like that. Seattle, to me, is synonymous with the NBA, one of the teams that I think of when I think of the league. Here's hoping for a miracle.
Another Kings fan checking in. We hope Seattle is able to buck the trend and keep its Sonics. Seattle is a fantastic city. The team has been up and down over the years, but its fans always stick around. If Seattle and Sacramento lose their teams, then what's the point? I have good memories of jumping on the Kings bandwagon against Seattle in the 96 playoffs, but even I'll admit Seattle was so damn fun to watch that year.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
I don't feel bad for Seattle at all. On the one hand, you have the city pouting about how they can't force individuals to surrender their property to them. On the other hand, you have owners who are trying to coerce the local government to extort more money from the people for a sports team. The moral of the story is that the government shouldn't be involved with economic matters like this. Taxes are not voluntary exchanges; They are incompatible with private business.
You're right -- Bennett and his fellow owners shouldn't be trying to extort tax money out of Seattle to fund an arena that would serve only to pad their own greedy pockets. Of course, that's if they even wanted the arena to begin with, which we all know they didn't -- it was just a convenient excuse to steal the team. Such is the heartlessness of private business.
Bulls fan here. I remember 1995-96 obviously, the 72 win season. Come on, 2 things are pissing me off right now: Wrigley Field lost to naming rights, and owners like Clay effin' Bennett (or Art Modell, or Bob Irsay, or the Hornets' owner, or Jerry Krause....eh nevermind) Save the Seattle SuperSonics, Mr. Stern, you'd be stupid to let them leave a great city.
Kings fan here. Sonics fans, know that every Kings fan is behind you, because we are facing the exact same battle in a year or two. Stern is a failure.
It is a crime that the NBA is letting the Sonics' owner walk to OKC with a storied franchise. Ridiculous. I don't think I can begin to understand the pain of Sonics' fans.
Seattle, I hurt for you. I'm not a Sonics fan. I rooted for the Bulls in this one, but watching this again after a decade gave me goosebumps. You deserve your team. I can't say that about two-thirds of the franchises in the Association.
It's sad that everyone outside of Washington sees your passion only after your team is on its way out the door. My condolences...
I'm a Bulls fan and I remember watching this game and thinking the Sonics deserve to win. Look how excited their fans are. Bulls fans could never match that intensity. If you told me they would be losing the team in 12 years I would never have beleived it. Nothing is sacred to Stern. What happens if Jerry Reinsdorf wants a new stadium? Will Stern move the Bulls?
Stern should feel dirty. I honestly don't know how he sleeps with himself. For sure, he is no longer a real NBA fan (never was?) or this would not be happening!
I will not be supporting any NBA-branded products or telecasts in the future if the Sonics move -- and I'm a Celtics fan!
There is plenty of decent basketball between the Euro leagues and amateurs. I encourage all the great fans from the Pacific NW to join me.
I'm a LAKER fan & knowing that Stern is doin nothing about the great basketball history of this great city is disgusting!! F-U Stern your much as fault as the OWNERS.
Wow watching this seriously made me sad. I'm not a Seattle fan, but this team is getting removed from the city like it never meant anything! Damn just look at these crazy fans! How can you just take away history like this!!! Hey, but I'm not too mad at the owners anyway, just look at the franchise and its fans now, nothing close to its heydey anyways
**** you David Stern. **** you Clay Bennett. And I'm a Mavs fan. If I ever were to see Stern walking down the street, I'm giving him my autograph and walking away without saying a word. The scumbag should feel lucky.
I got goosebumps from this and I'm a freaking Lakers fan. Gotta love the Sonics franchise, all the way from their Wookie mascot that makes no sense but is awesome anyway, to the crazy loud fans. It's nothing short of a crime and travesty what Stern and his cronies are doing to this franchise.
I live in Alaska, and thus have adopted Seattle teams as my teams to root for. I was quickly losing interest in the NBA in the early 2000's. But in the 2004 season I went to a Sonics game against Utah which included Radmonivic hitting a 3 at the buzzer to send the game to OT...I've never had a sports experience that raucous (and I've been to Fenway, Mile High, and other places). That game energized my love for basketball, but if the Sonics leave, I'm done. Screw the NBA.

I encourage everyone out here there to call.

what have you done lately, seattle? nada!!!
sure, there are other cities that deserve the boot, too. but seattle is cream of the crop when it comes to "GET THE F OUT"
seattle doesn't deserve a team and more. OKC won't be good either. bring something to pittsburgh or austin or san diego. how do places like memphis (smallest NBA viewship of all current markets, 2nd smallest population) and new orleans (2nd and 3rd) still have teams!!!
ADIOS!!!!
ElRico333 3 years ago
Hey Uncle Rico.. Who here said this wasn't twelve years ago? This shows the Sonics in the NBA Finals against the best team in NBA History, with the full city of Seattle behind them. The sonics made the playoffs 3 years ago. Seattle deserves a team. We have a had a team and backed them for over 40 years! Look at our record this year. We average more fans then the New orleans Hornets. Seattle is also close to Asia, where the NBA is trying to attract from. Not to mention metro population of 3.2 mil

NBA's DONE!!!!!!!!!!!!
Anol21 3 years ago
Stand up, Oklahoma City. Please let Clay no that, as the honorable and classy fans your proved yourself to be last year (hosting the NO team), that you won't let yourselves be the beneficiary of what is an outright theft from the Seattle fans. Pretty it up anyway you like, but you know in your hearts that you'd be guilty of "receiving stolen property", and I can understand why any city would allow itself to get a franchise in this manner.
retrophillysoul 3 years ago
Yet another Sacramento fan here. I hate what they're doing to Seattle, it's not right. It'll come up in Sacramento too, but I have a feeling Stern will step in there. I don't know how or why he can pick and choose his battles like that. Seattle, to me, is synonymous with the NBA, one of the teams that I think of when I think of the league. Here's hoping for a miracle.
endlessscott 3 years ago
Another Kings fan checking in. We hope Seattle is able to buck the trend and keep its Sonics. Seattle is a fantastic city. The team has been up and down over the years, but its fans always stick around. If Seattle and Sacramento lose their teams, then what's the point? I have good memories of jumping on the Kings bandwagon against Seattle in the 96 playoffs, but even I'll admit Seattle was so damn fun to watch that year.

Taxes are not voluntary exchanges; They are incompatible with private business.
orangeman4242 3 years ago

I live in Alaska, and thus have adopted Seattle teams as my teams to root for. I was quickly losing interest in the NBA in the early 2000's. But in the 2004 season I went to a Sonics game against Utah which included Radmonivic hitting a 3 at the buzzer to send the game to OT...I've never had a sports experience that raucous (and I've been to Fenway, Mile High, and other places). That game energized my love for basketball, but if the Sonics leave, I'm done. Screw the NBA.
