  • @mccoya, I agree that there is a likelihood that we will need another 20 years of stability, though a lot of game changing discoveries come from left field, and come through luck, and not brute forcing the problem. So we may see very intelligent technology in the near future, and we need to consider this possibility of near term mass unemployment!

    People tend to dogmatically assume that AGI _must_ come from achieving the computational capacity of the human brain, I disagree.

  • In order for these artificial brains to develop to the complexity you predict - it would require the current global-economic & financial structures/systems to remain in their current 'stable'state for at least another 20 years. It will be interesting to see if this is the case. The entire system seems to be becoming increasingly unstable which could cast us back into the dark ages

  • @mccoya2 That's a good point. DeGaris seems not to be taking certain things like that -- and others, such as peak oil and climate change -- into account.
