You really should clean the old paste off both the heat sink and the chips because it's old, dry, and dusty. That's really bad Quality Control and is lazy. Also, thermal paste does nothing to keep the chips cool. Thermal paste creates a solid area of contact between the heat sinks and the GPU/CPU so that the heat sinks can dissipate thermal energy from the chips. Dirty thermal paste has pockets of air which reduce contact with the chips and create hot spots.  Hot spots = RROD.

@ISHOOKAI way to be a dumbass and take apart your xbox THATS DOESNT HAVE ANY PROBLEMS. It does work...I know several people that buy broken xboxs and fix them and resell them. It can and has been done...you just don't know what you're doing.

Ok man I sent in my xbox and they sent it back with 4 flashing red lights... they said it is still in service mode? they cannot fix my xbox because I opened it... the lights are flashing red back and forth, 2 red 2 green, 2 red 2 green... HELP please? can anyone help me?
