Ennio Morricone is in a league of his own, not just for the arrangement of Amapola, but for ALL of his music. Since the 1960's I've listened to (& collected) a lot of that music, I've also been lucky enough to see him perform live in concert twice & I have to say, his music has never ever been anything less than "emotional " & on so so many occasions its been nothing less than "absolutely beautiful " ... Grazie maestro, I raise my glass to you - cheers !
An American group, the Ames Brothers did a version of this that is extremely good. I haven't been able to find it on you tube however. This is a beautiful rendition....thanks for posting it. I always associted Ennio Morricone with Clint Eastwood spaghetti westerns up 'til now.
Right...Morricone just arranged it to make it sound even better then the original ( normally it is sung... and that is another matter...I grew up listening to Amapola being sung by the greatest voices...love all of them...only if I were forced to choose one version, would I choose Morricone's )

This is pale and weak in comparison to the rendition by Mantovani. If you don't believe me, check it out yourself.

Beautiful music, but although it was used in the 'Once upon a time in America' film, it was NOT written by Ennio Morricone.
It was written by Spanish composer Joseph LaCalle.
