You see, I don't like many love songs. But this one is different. Knopfler has a lyrical gem here. There's an appropriate amount of sentimentality-- love is a powerful emotion, but too many people go way overboard with the glorification of the object of their affection. Besides that, it tells a story, something that's missing from most love songs nowadays.

Romeo doesn't have blinders on-- he loves Juliet, and always will, but he knows she's a human being, subject to petty emotion.

Hey, you keep listening to all those 'good artists' from years back, when I was younger (am now 46) I used to listen to stuff from at least 2 decades before I was born - and now I listen to all sorts of music from Bach to the Beatles, it makes life a better experience, dont narrow your horizons by not being open to things - you only live once, the kids you are talking about at school are the ones missing out.... good luck and keep on rocking...
