Aside from some pacing issues and skimming most of the side-characters development and backstories the Fate/Stay Night anime series was pretty solid (C+/B for episodes 1-10 and B+ to A for episodes 11 onwards with the ecception of the penultimate one). The UBW movie however...way too fast compressed (stunning action sequences and production though). Now Fate/Zero is shaping up to be the best adaptation of a Type-Moon work (despite a horrible 1st episode) since the Garden of Sinners movies
I thought the FSN anime was pretty good, until I watched the UBW movie. I thought it couldn't get any better until I played the VN. FSN VN is a must play for all FSN fans.
I just realized something - the blonde girl is not really a girl. She has lived for a huge amount of years so she's actually an old hag disguised as a teenage girl just like the protagonist from the movie Twilight who is like a hundred years old and yet he gets to make out with a 16 year old girl (gross)!
@xBl00dBrothersX Her body is 14 (the age Shirou says she looks, I am unsure if that's her actual age) and she was immortal and had "eternal" youth for a while. However, she only ruled without aging for 10 years so she's actually only 24 even though her body remains at 14.
well this serie shure tought me a lesson, watever you do, always go for the better outcome if the past is behind you, otherways you end up like shirou and saber, dead and broken hearted!!!
"Everything is but a distant Utopia". The title of the last episode of the anime, sums up the outcome of their love for each other. They can not be together. Simple as that, no matter how much it hurts.
I don't think Saber died at all, because in Realta Nua it was explained that both Shirou and Saber died in old age, and they met because of Avalon... ^_^
@TiffanyLye Eh? yes, they met because Avalon was hidden within Shirou, being the one thing Kiritsugu could use to save him from dying as a child, by implanting Avalon magicly within him. When the summon was activated, Arturia (Saber) was specifically called because of the aura emanating from the Avalon within his body. However, Saber truly dies in this storyline, returning to the time where she came from, and dying under the tree as in the story of King Arthur.

Still i prefer the "fate" route ending, even though its the saddest one. From what I understand(and saw in the movie) in the UBW scenario Shirou and Saber never really get the chance to bond and fall in love with each other as it happens in the Fate/original scenario which is also the anime one.
@Tigerakos the whole concept is that every storyline has it's heroine for Shirou, in Fate, its undeniably Saber, in the VN UBW, it's clear that he has fallen completely for Rin instead. Finally, Sakura is the one he falls for in HF. Each story is done so that it sets the situation so Shirou doesn't gain the chance to bond with the others, UBW has Saber split up from Shirou and Rin taking responsibility for making sure Shirou lives his life for himself. I wont say about HF, thats spoiling XP
@vc180191 That's another thing I like about FSN. Unlike other Visual novels where only 1 heroin gets a main story. FSN has 3 big routes for each heroin.
@TiffanyLye If you have the VN, there is only one way to have an ending with Saber alive. In the UBW scenario specifically keeping Saber and Rins emotions towards Shirou both high and perfectly matched (within one level). if you do this, you get the *Good* ending of UBW rather than the *True* ending, and in this ending Rin delibrately keeps Saber after the war, and Shirou gets both girls (since he also needs to provide magical power to help maintain Saber's presence lol)
the ending was terrible. what a sad ending. I demand another season even with UBW. I seriously wish they were together. maybe he would have became the king and she the queen instead. but then again changing the past is never good then maybe them being together?

Be careful with your transitions, they get fidgety in certain places for some reason. Also, you may want to pick different scenes with some of the music, I don't know if sitting on a bench goes with an intense guitar chord.
Either way you have the mind for this, and I can see the effort. 4/5.
Marvelous!!! This the best anime series that I have seen. There are some of my fovorites but this tops my chart.
My best character is RIN, she is smart, razor sharp beautiful, intelligent, confident, competitive.
There is one line which poured out feelings from me; when shirou says to saber that, " there is nothing in this world which is more important than you, you are the one who is most important to me".
Fate stay Night is one of my all time favorites, I haven`t found to many amv`s for it that impress me. This is one of those few. Very well done! the song was perfect and, maybe its because i`m a girl, it made me cry.

There is an actual game for the PS2. But the Novel carries on Fate, UBW, and Heaven's Feel routes. They are not a continuation of the anime, but show you the full detail of what went on in the anime and the other possibilities. That said, the Anime is Fate route but it has a LOT of subtle hints from both HF and UBW routes too.
Unfortunately Shirou's promise to always remember and love Saber doesn't seem to come true in the end. Because Shirou becomes Archer. And Archer seemed to cast aside all feelings he had for Saber; it seemed as though he didn't care that he saw Saber again.
So I am guessing that Shirou had some horrific and traumatic future that caused him to cast aside all his emotions and ideals (maybe his ideals and heroics caused Rin, Sakura, Illyana, and everyone he cared for to die.)
To begin with, the path when he becomes Archer is not the Fate-Route shown in the anime. He became Archer when he beat Gilgamesh and won the Grail War by himself, after losing everyone dear to him: Saber, Rin, Sakura, Ilya, Taiga etc
This is a different path from the one presented in the Anime. Also, he did not cast aside his ideals, instead he became even more idealistic and died when he was betrayed by someone he protected. After his death, when he became a guardian Spirit
he decided that all this murder and slaughter had never been his dream at all. He wanted to save ppl and found himself simply murdering ppl, so he prayed for a chance to kill his past and thus himself, similar to what Saber planned to wish.
So is Archer Shirou from the UBW route? or a completely different route?
I don't remember a route in which Saber, Rin, Sakura, Ilya, Taiga all die.
Archer has a completely different personality than Shirou. Archer is cold, calm, calculated, silent, disciplined, and jerkish. While Shirou is idealistic, self-sacrificing, gentle, polite, caring, and friendly.
For Shirou to become Archer, Shirou must have had a very traumatic and painful future.
No he didn't cast aside all his feelings he had towards Saber, remember ep. 3 or 4 when Saber is summoned, Archet let her wound him, he couldn't strike back or even block.
Nope, saber doesnt need the power of the holy grail to go back to her time, she needs it to die, after each holy grail war she fights she goes back to the moment before her death and a moment later she's again in another holy grail war :P that's why she's stuck :P
actually, arthoria is the one called saber. saber is a card name(C/N). for example, archer, a C/N for a person who attacks from distant range/angle and mainly uses bow (but not rin's servant, idk why). thus, rin's servant's C/N is archer but it is not his real name. arthoria (aka arthur in a guy version) wears armors, rides horses n mainly uses swords so she is suited with the C/N saber. (saber aka knight). meaning arthoria is her REAL name. still dun understand? anyone can PM me. haha too long.
yo. i Wikied fate/hollow (the pc game) and it says that rin forced saber and shiro to have sex in order for saber to gain mana. well, that's in the game.

Saber disappeared and was sent back to her past. There she will fulfill her destiny and die with a peaceful look on her face. Pretty sad ending actually.
I love this anime so much because of the relationship story between shirou and saber. they're sweet! although the story about the holy grail war is pretty interesting too.

The sheath is called Avalon And it has strong healing powers.

I see many people torn by the ending Saber received in Fate.
If that's the case, I'd imagine they'd be even more torn to know (or remember) that Fate is one of two "good" ends for Saber.
In UBW, she vanishes or is just a tag-along (rather than the heroine).
In HF, she's vanquished.

I played the visual novel game its in english and its awesome.
This was based on fate route there are 3 routes btw.
And lol if you made 1 mistake you would get killed so yeah lol.
Too bad in the anime they cut out the hentai parts but yeah definitly go get it!!
It gives you full detail and it has lots of scenes and 3 routes.

It isn't hard to get a subbed version from mirror moon's translations. Just torrent the Stay/Fate Visual Novel. It is mindblowingly incredible.

A game of sorts.
There is an actual game for the PS2. But the Novel carries on Fate, UBW, and Heaven's Feel routes. They are not a continuation of the anime, but show you the full detail of what went on in the anime and the other possibilities. That said, the Anime is Fate route but it has a LOT of subtle hints from both HF and UBW routes too.

Unfortunately Shirou's promise to always remember and love Saber doesn't seem to come true in the end. Because Shirou becomes Archer. And Archer seemed to cast aside all feelings he had for Saber; it seemed as though he didn't care that he saw Saber again.
So I am guessing that Shirou had some horrific and traumatic future that caused him to cast aside all his emotions and ideals (maybe his ideals and heroics caused Rin, Sakura, Illyana, and everyone he cared for to die.)

To begin with, the path when he becomes Archer is not the Fate-Route shown in the anime. He became Archer when he beat Gilgamesh and won the Grail War by himself, after losing everyone dear to him: Saber, Rin, Sakura, Ilya, Taiga etc
This is a different path from the one presented in the Anime. Also, he did not cast aside his ideals, instead he became even more idealistic and died when he was betrayed by someone he protected. After his death, when he became a guardian Spirit

he decided that all this murder and slaughter had never been his dream at all. He wanted to save ppl and found himself simply murdering ppl, so he prayed for a chance to kill his past and thus himself, similar to what Saber planned to wish.

I don't remember a route in which Saber, Rin, Sakura, Ilya, Taiga all die.
Archer has a completely different personality than Shirou. Archer is cold, calm, calculated, silent, disciplined, and jerkish. While Shirou is idealistic, self-sacrificing, gentle, polite, caring, and friendly.
For Shirou to become Archer, Shirou must have had a very traumatic and painful future.

No he didn't cast aside all his feelings he had towards Saber, remember ep. 3 or 4 when Saber is summoned, Archet let her wound him, he couldn't strike back or even block.

Nope, saber doesnt need the power of the holy grail to go back to her time, she needs it to die, after each holy grail war she fights she goes back to the moment before her death and a moment later she's again in another holy grail war :P that's why she's stuck :P

actually, arthoria is the one called saber. saber is a card name(C/N). for example, archer, a C/N for a person who attacks from distant range/angle and mainly uses bow (but not rin's servant, idk why). thus, rin's servant's C/N is archer but it is not his real name. arthoria (aka arthur in a guy version) wears armors, rides horses n mainly uses swords so she is suited with the C/N saber. (saber aka knight). meaning arthoria is her REAL name. still dun understand? anyone can PM me. haha too long.
