Kogan is regarded as one of the greatest of all technical players and interpreters. His playing was lean, angular and aggressive with a faster and purer vibrato. He would maintain an even and full tone across all strings and in all positions, without weakness in high positions. Possibly as a result of his bow arm technique, he would not allow the G string to sound unnecessarily mellow.
Kogan was the only classical violinist of note who preferred to play on all steel strings unlike others
Also I have audio recording with Kogan and Khachaturian with Moscow philharmonic orchestra. That is amazing recording maybe the best but I want to see more from this video!!!!
Why only 13 seconds?? I have the cd of Oistrach and khakaturian conducting, I ignore if video of that exists. Excellent violin concerto, for me one of the gratest!
Khachaturian's Violin Concerto is one of the most under-rated concertos out there. I recently heard a spectacular rendition with the Armenian Violinist Sergey Khachatryan (maybe our generations next Kogan!)and the London Symphony Orchestra. It was so powerful. The orchestration was truly unique and Khachaturian! You can hear his unique style and Armenian feel.
AHHHH I would do anything to hear more of this: audio, video, another movement, or any combo... Kogan is my favorite violinist and the Khachaturian violin concerto is my current obsession. Watching that little clip was heavenly...
Kogan's playing might look weird and "uncomfortable," he's definitely one of the greatest violinists in USSR in terms of his technique and artistry. Sometimes I prefer him to Oistrakh. This video is definitely v. precious because the composer was conducting at the same time.
May I please ask why only thirteen (13) seconds. You should be tried by an International Tribunal!

"Great violin player" as the video info is a huge understatement.

Rare, Khachaturian conducting!!!!!

Wow! What an astonishing collaboration! Why might the recording be a half-step sharp? Archaic recording equipment, or unusually high tuning?

amazing! I think I prefer Oistrakh but that might just be a biased opinion. why just 13 seconds??? Are there more???

It's short because it's a clip from the film "The art of the violin". That's all that was shown during the film.
