  • Dance me into the night

Underneath the full moon shining so bright

Turning me into the light *•.¸✿ƹ̵̡ӝ̵̨̄ʒ✿¸.•* T *•.¸✿ƹ̵̡ӝ̵̨̄ʒ✿¸.•*

  • Heartbreaking.

  • wow....

  • This is so touching..One of the best scenes of one of the best movies.

  • If you are making a list of best scores of the 21st century so far, this one belongs on everyone's list.

  • which song in the backraund ?? the song make this music unique

  • @TheKatherineCh It's a good old hymn called 'Dear Lord and Father of Mankind' by H. Parry

  • @pascott1 thanks alot , my lovely scene singing soldiers

  • Even the humblest creature in the world would have a king's funeral with this music!

  • I knew before i read the description that this had to be from Atonement.

  • Pure beauty. Easily one of the best pieces of music I've ever heard in my life.

  • i don't know how i got here but im glad i did this is a beautiful song

  • siempre que escucho esta cancion se me sale una lagrima

  • I just randomly stubled upon this song.. it's amazing :O

  • This track always hits home. Thank you, Marianelli

  • Listening to this after the two minute silence on the special 11.11.11 Remembrance Day. Very beautiful and heartbreaking indeed.

  • This is one of my favourite movies of all time...and I just love this soundtrack, it reminds me of that scene where Robbie has died, and his friend covers him with a blanket, and says, "Cheerio, pal"...and when he goes up to the stairs, he looks back once more...

  • this is a powerful piece. the first few seconds gave me goosebumps. amazing

  • It's really nice phrase! And what about russian soldiers?

  • *elergy

  • @izz167 Elegy -.-

  • Reminds me of the things past that never happened.

  • Bravo!

  • I'm not one for crying over music, but this made a huge lump in my throat.

  • Dan Radcliffe listened to this whilst filming Harry Potter movies so he could get in the mood.

  • This song goes off to all the fucking undead I have slain with mine holy sword.

  • This changes things forever...

  • why is it that the world needs a disaster to happen in order to realize how important we are to one another?

  • Is there a specific track for the british soldiers' vocal in the background?

  • @xFrenchFrog "Dear Lord and Farther of Mankind"

  • @xFrenchFrog thats what i have been trying to find :(

  • One of the most phenomenal pieces of cinematic must ever. utterly spine tingling.

  • It does actually make you cry.

  • Lyric: Drop thy still dews of quietness, till all our strivings cease; take from our souls the strain and stress, and let our ordered lives confess the beauty of thy peace the beauty of thy peace. Breathe through the heats of our desire thy coolness and thy balm; let sense be dumb, let flesh retire; speak through the earthquake, wind, and fire, O still, small voice of calm.
  • This scene, shot in a single, swooping take, and Robbie's horrified, haggard face, and the gorgeous hymn chanted by the soldiers - I have never cried so much in my life in a movie theatre. And every time I rewatch it, it still has the same effect.

  • Love the way they have incorporated the hymn "Dear Lord and Father of Mankind" into this theme. Haunting and so sad. Dunkirk was nuts. A total hell. Guys fighting to the death over water. Amazing, though, how Britain rallied 861 vessels to go pick up their stranded soldiers. Demonstrates the kind of intestinal fortitude that helped Britain fight off Germany. Lest We Forget.

  • In the film, the whole sequence with this music is so painfully beautiful. Joe Wright did an amazing job, the way he films, it's like poetry. I don't know if I'm making sense but I know that this movie is one of the most beautiful I've ever seen, visually speaking.

  • Words cannot describe this.

  • The scene I seen this in. Is absolutely the best.

  • God let them rest in peace-Dieu laissez-les reposer en paix

  • I love the the incorporation of the chorus and the high peak of the instruments that follow at minute 1.49

  • Sometimes our soul brokes.

But this have broken lifes too.

  • This makes me cry inside.

  • ca me rapelle aussi un autres amis homosexuel et zoophile, Romain Changeur !

  • *cries* SO BEAUTIFUL!

  • amazing jst amazing.

  • you know when this song is beautiful, when you start too cry.

  • This composition rivals John Williams' score for Schindler's List in terms of emotional impact. They both give me chills every time I hear them.

  • one of the most powerful moments of music

  • when i need a song that makes me close my eyes and just relax, this is what i listen to. when i need a song to smile to or to cry to, this is my song. when i need a song that i can put on repeat and never grow tired of it, this is my song. i love this. thanks dario marianelli

  • 400,000 british against more than 800,000 Germans, the brits still put up a hell of a fight. Germany ruined the world twice in three decades.

  • In my opinion, one of the most powerful soundtracks in cinema history

  • I only recently saw the film 'Atonement'. I read the book some time ago and was affected by it for a long time. You think Robbie survived, only to find out at the end of the book that he didnt. It is such a powerful book and Ian McEwan is, in my opinion, a brilliant writer. The film is quite true to the book. I cannot believe that the generation of Dunkirk is passing into history - my Dad's generation.

  • that song just made me cry! <3

    in love with it!

  • Thiw music will be my inno to fight our DEMOCRACY revolution.

  • The Music is what feelings look like .

Dario Marianelli - thank you so much for the heart toughing piece of music, thank you for the great moments we live through your genius, I can't stop myself from pushing the replay button, Thank you for the video :)

  • @hassannn75 just add the word "repeat" after the youtube but before the (dot)com and it automatically replays the video without you having to click it every time.

  • Jeff Beck's version of "Elegy..." is breathtaking too. Everyone should check it out.

  • this movie left me speechless ;needless to say anything .it moves you in a way other gr8 movies never could. Ofcourse this genius soundtrack is a big part of the movie's success .

  • phenomenal. you can feel the pain and longing in the strings.

  • WTF, somebody disliked this?! Impossible!

  • @MassLiberal1 2 disliked this.one has to concluded that they are deaf, dumb and dumb.

  • The part that the soldiers sing 'Dear God and Father of Mankind', breaks almost my heart. One of the most beautiful pieces of filmmusic!

  • Just listening to this makes me shiver and start to cry, it's that powerful...

  • Dario Marianelli's soundtracks does a thing for me , something to my soul, like my heart is ripped out and kissed by angels, and i can listen to them for days, weeks, and i don't feel the need for food, or sleep, they are what keeps me going, because they touch my soul, my emotions deep inside.

Thank you Dario Marianelli, for composing something so wonderful <3

  • ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥

  • Awesome

  • Perfect music

  • From a french girl, I don't know why but I need to say thanks to all british and american soldiers and people who have helped france to finish with the II world war.

In memory too of all the people dead.

    God bless them.

    God bless everyone.

This music is both a scream of so many victimes and the sound of liberty and eternal peace.

  • @Thiildra Id say merci to the russians more than anybody else luv

  • @Thiildra I couldn't have said it better.

  • @Thiildra USA and UK helped France because they were in the same side and liberating France was very necessary to them, otherwise they wouldn't. This happens in every war, every country, even if it's not involved will support one of the belligerents depending on its own interests.

Your thank doesn't make sense, no country would sacrifice with its own army to help the others for humanitarian reasons, if it was a humanitarian matter this wars wouldn't have happened at all.

  • @cg57c Maybe not the US, but at that point the UK and France had a strong alliance, and still do.

  • @Thiildra We all owe a debt to the many French & Dutch Resistance, British, American, Aussie, Russian, African, and Chinese soldiers, to the ones who sheltered the persecuted, and to the civilians of occupied countries who stayed alive another day, to keep fighting the good fight. We should not lose sight of what is right.

  • @Thiildra Thank you, thats all i have to say.

  • @Thiildra Helped? I think not. They came when it was almost over...

  • @Thiildra don't forget the Sov. Union :)

  • Very emotional. I love this movie....every time I watch it, I am haunted by the imagery and the message behind it...how love, true love, can transcend time and war and obstacles. This music shows the brutality of war, and the hope that lingers, even through death and decay. It conveys the message of Robbie's troubled mind, and how she is the sole reason for going on..

  • this music is pure magic

  • Que hermoso pedazo de vida gracias =)

  • Well deserved Oscar for the music.

  • GOD BLESS GREAT BRITAIN!

  • I absolutely love this song. As an actor, no other song put me in a better state of mind when evoking emotion

  • @tcai522 what movies youve been in!

  • I Agree with Kojaquo.

  • By far one of the saddest songs ever made.

    It's beautifully made.

Sometimes it actually makes me cry.

  • The beauty of thy peace<3

  • die Pflicht ruft männder, geht an die Waffen und verteidigt Mutter Erde !

  • This is a beautiful piece and hearing it makes me cry! The way it has been composed is spectacular and i am particulary interested in the soldier's part. A job well done to whoever wrote and composed this piece of ecsquizite music!

  • @Menorquineta It's a cello!

  • This music breaks your heart, as does this film and as does that one, glorious shot on that beach. As a presentation of war, Atonement stands up there with Saving Private Ryan.

  • Simply beautiful... so emotional, sad, and brilliant. I just had to close my eyes to feel the music.

  • @patofranco54 It is a great piece. However, the music is matched by perfect cinematography, so you must not close your eyes and just listen, or you will not expierience the harmony between film and music. What a great composition to make the audience feel the emotion of wars aftermath.

  • The beauty of thy peace....breathe through the heat of our desires.....

    Amen! And Lord, please do!

Love this song! Love the Book! Love the movie a bit more.....cuz of Keira and James!

  • I can't believe Jeff Beck is going to be doing a version of this! What a perfect tune for him to do... this is simply a brilliant piece.

  • @AxisofJustice21 It's really good Jeff makes it sound brillant

  • Dario Marianelli is quickly becoming one of my favorite contemporary composers. All of his music is haunting and sweepingly romantic ... this cello solo and shimmering strings blended in with the choir is absolutely perfect.

  • I agree this is very haunting music.

The spell is slightly tempered by the fact that Marianelli has soundtracked some VERY bogus documentaries for channel 4.

  • @ttimothymurphy Really! That's interesting :) I guess everyone has to start somewhere.

  • I very rarely get goosebumps these days but... wow.

  • One of the only songs that really make me cry.

  • Absolutely beautiful. I think Marianelli has skillfully combined the choir and the instrumental, they fit in so well..

  • fantastic score to a great film!

  • This is Caroline Dale playing the cello solo, right? Breathtakingly gorgeous!

  • amazing song

    Made me feel comfortable

  • Its beautiful and so touching ....

  • drop thy still dews of quietness till all our strivings cease take from our souls the strain and stress and let our ordered lives confess the beauty of thy peace....this song is magnificent and perfect for the scene on the beach.

  • <3 I love this song

  • played in remembrance of my mother, this song gives me so much strength to keep going and the picture fits to a long way we have to walk...

thank you for posting it, now found it!

  • @ESPY1200 funny thing u mentioned it. I posted this video a few days after my mom passed away, so I know exactly what you mean. I`m glad so many people got to enjoy this because of my mom. Dario Marianelli you are a genius.

  • I find this one of the most beautiful songs on this soundtrack

    Sad,but beautiful

  • Wow!

    I'm stunned!

  • I love this is so beautiful and relaxig I have wrote 3 more songs because of this it really touches you!

  • wow this is so beautiful!!!!!!!!!

  • @AnasheedIslamy Really, when I first saw this it just blew me away. It almost brought tears to my eyes. It gave goosebumps. So, amazing in every way. True art.

  • @AnasheedIslamy

Dear Ana, It ain't that beautiful, it is sung in church every Sunday morning in your neighbourhood; check it out, and take some money for the plate.

    Cheers.

    from,

    del-boy.

  • @FriendLondonFriend Does that make it any less beautiful? That is almost like saying roses "ain't" beautiful because they are used often. The sentiment both this song and those flowers convey is still moving.

  • @South4TheSummer Dear Sou., What flowers are you talking about? . I'm glad you agree with me that Ana is over-reacting. You say "almost like..." whereas Ana says wow and that it is "so beautful!!!!!!!!!!!!" Obviously she doesn't get out much and is bullied in her house and suffers under he ill hand of someone close. . Just like the ubiquitous rose; beauty is everywhere, to those who can see it. . Are you a church-goer yourself? Cheers. from, del-boy.
  • @ABigOneLikeDaddys I am fervently agnostic. Although that sounds contradictory.... There is still a wonderful and peaceful beauty for me in hymns even though I dislike some of the things most religions prescribe to.

  • @South4TheSummer Dear Sou.,

You simply like the group aspect of the choir and the listeners and all thoes who comment about it good or bad, because any thing goupal is human-enhancing.

Now, just like in Ancient Egyptian times and and further back.

    Have a nice day.

    cheers.

    from,

    del-boy.

  • @YouAreQuiteRight I am just as moved by Jeff Buckley singing hallelujah all by himself. I think it is the way people approach the subject of god that I find peaceful. There is a reverence that is sometimes duplicated in love songs, but not often.

  • @South4TheSummer Dear Sou., Thanks for your response. It is interesting to hear you mention the cleave between two types of love. I agree with you entirely, I often find folk use the word, love, when they mean to say love-sickness, (lust). Probably the topic of many a so-called love song. (One such song comes to mind: "I'll Never Fall In Love Again" is a popular song by Burt Bacharach and Hal David). Cheers. from, del-boy.
  • Dieu, que c'est beau.
