This was inconsiderate of Ernie. If Ernie was too warm, he should have left well enough alone when the fan was on medium speed. I don't know how much of him I could take if I were Bert. :-\
Ditto that. I think Ernie's inconsiderate period. Just does whatever he wants no matter what the circumstances or consequences to other people; especially Bert.
This skit actually goes on another 10 to 12 seconds, but for some reason they edit it out. After Bert yells "Oh Errrrrnieeeee!!" he then says "Please Ernie, for me, please" and then it sounds like he goes "You fat little..." and Bert turns around and mumbles something else. My guess is that Oz didn't know the camera was still rolling!
mstatz, why does Bert yell at Ernie here? This is one example where I believe that Ernie is NOT ticking Bert off on purpose. Right here, that room with Bert inside was probably the only room in their apartment where Ernie could put the fan down for some cool air. Can you explain this to me please?
It's not exactly considerate to turn on a fan right next to someone and blow all their papers away. When you watch a lot of E&B skits, it becomes kind of obvious that Ernie likes to tease Bert. Not necessarily to be mean, but of course Bert doesn't like it. Bert yells at Ernie because he just lost its temper. Everyone does that. But of course the flat and lifeless children's television today wouldn't have you know about that.
I had the "At Home With Ernie and Bert" album, and this was one sketch that I listened to over and over again! Thanks for bringing back this everlasting memory!
OOO.. I miss the early bert and ernie!!! even though they arent related, this looks just like sibling rivalry... heheheheh.. pissin each other off.. HAHHAHAH.. hilarious!

mstatz, please take this skit off this site right now! I don't like your description of this skit. First of all, how is this skit funny? It's not! It's mean and insulting! Second of all, I don't like your comment that ernie ticks bert off on purpose, backed up with a really short explanation.
Don't bite my head off...I didn't make this skit. I was a four & a half year old kid when this was taped. Write your letters to Sesame Street or Jim Henson productions. They are the ones who made this muppet segment.
You don't like my comment that Ernie ticks Bert off on purpose? Isn't that very obvious considering just how many Ernie and Bert segments involve Ernie teasing or irritating Bert.
yeah it probably is obvious that Ernie ticks bert off on purpose in most skits. But mstatz, have you ever seen the skit where they are out on the street and Ernie makes Bert an Ice Cream Soda? Bert yells in Ernie's ear that he HATES ICE CREAM sodas just like he does here. But Ernie probably didn't know or he forgot that Bert hates ice cream sodas. If you remember that skit, give me your opinion on whether or not he did that on purpose.
I'll have to agree with you that during the very early years of Sesame Street (the first 3 to 5 seasons), Bert was a bit like Oscar and was grouchy. The humor back than was not cutesy and dainty like it is today. You have grown up in this touchy feely PC age, so you don't understand the humor in the old school Sesame Street. I was a five year old kid when I watched these segments. I was 21 and in the army when you were 5 years old. That's why we disagree here. The generation gap is too large.
I personally like the fact that back then, characters were not as flat and boring as they are today. Bert could be annoyed if he wanted to be, Oscar could be grouchy, and everyone on Sesame Street accepted them for who they were. I think it's important for a child to feel they can be accepted no matter whether they are in an Oscar mood, Ernie mood, Cookie Monster mood, or any mood they are in. Now days the characters are very flat and generic. What good does that teach a child?
@brightbite I agree with you! Acceptance is an important value to teach children. However, I believe that the grouchy character on Sesame Street, Oscar, was cast as a trash can resident to help teach children to throw their grouchy feelings in the garbage.
@brightbite PC censors have really strangled the creative process. I feel it was downright criminal to make Cookie Monster more of a vegetable monster. Ironically, it's partly because of these absurd PC censors that some shows become a classic. (By virtue of having been written before these idiot censors.)
The creative process is not always PC. I'm glad someone sees this.
hey, what gives, dude? mstatz didn't WRITE the thing, its an old tv skit. what, are you UPSET by it? no offense, but what in the hell for?. and why does it matter if your upset b y this? by my estimation, if you don't like porn, than don't watch it. don't like sushi? eat somethin else!. simple as that. this skit hurts your feelings cause it disagrees with your opinion of the world?
tough. who cares. get over it.

--- to predictably see ernie ticking off burt, whether he intended to or not. who cares. endless comedy skits work the exact same way. you gonna demand they be not be available for viewing too? phat chance.
Well the only reason Bert is yelling at Ernie for his actions is because this skit is from the 1970s, if this took place in the 90s or 2000s he probably wouldn't treat Ernie this way
i wonder if this skit was played in any 1980 episodes of Sesame Street, the same year '9 to 5' came out. In that movie Dolly Parton snaps at her boss quite a bit in that movie
mstatz, this ernie and bert skit really makes me scared. I don't care if Bert is hot and bothered, he has no right to yell in ernie's ear like that.
