This skit actually goes on another 10 to 12 seconds, but for some reason they edit it out. After Bert yells "Oh Errrrrnieeeee!!" he then says "Please Ernie, for me, please" and then it sounds like he goes "You fat little..." and Bert turns around and mumbles something else. My guess is that Oz didn't know the camera was still rolling!

It's not exactly considerate to turn on a fan right next to someone and blow all their papers away. When you watch a lot of E&B skits, it becomes kind of obvious that Ernie likes to tease Bert. Not necessarily to be mean, but of course Bert doesn't like it. Bert yells at Ernie because he just lost its temper. Everyone does that. But of course the flat and lifeless children's television today wouldn't have you know about that.

yeah it probably is obvious that Ernie ticks bert off on purpose in most skits. But mstatz, have you ever seen the skit where they are out on the street and Ernie makes Bert an Ice Cream Soda? Bert yells in Ernie's ear that he HATES ICE CREAM sodas just like he does here.  But Ernie probably didn't know or he forgot that Bert hates ice cream sodas. If you remember that skit, give me your opinion on whether or not he did that on purpose.

I'll have to agree with you that during the very early years of Sesame Street (the first 3 to 5 seasons), Bert was a bit like Oscar and was grouchy. The humor back than was not cutesy and dainty like it is today. You have grown up in this touchy feely PC age, so you don't understand the humor in the old school Sesame Street. I was a five year old kid when I watched these segments. I was 21 and in the army when you were 5 years old. That's why we disagree here. The generation gap is too large.

I personally like the fact that back then, characters were not as flat and boring as they are today. Bert could be annoyed if he wanted to be, Oscar could be grouchy, and everyone on Sesame Street accepted them for who they were. I think it's important for a child to feel they can be accepted no matter whether they are in an Oscar mood, Ernie mood, Cookie Monster mood, or any mood they are in. Now days the characters are very flat and generic. What good does that teach a child?
