Hip singles were bloody good !! remember watching the live at mainstreet concert with a really hot version of after the party, would like to see that again if it still exists.
great post wikid memories, first gig i snuck out to was Dance Exponents at mainstreet (Jordon Luck u still owe me a pair of shoes) And after reading through the comments, some of you are too obvious that you were never born at that time or were too yound to have any idea what was going on (in the big city you banjo playing pig fucker$) @antsdick, @joh2, @lancecorporate, we know you are cocks, and you just keep haveing to demondtrate it, to everyone
SOOO MANY fine bands came out of New Zealand and it's sad that too many Americans are only familiar with Split Enz. By the way, I wish you;d played MORE of
Its a shame NZ radio mostly refused to play these bands - not even songs like "Poi E" and and "Don't Dream its over" were played until they were popular elsewhere!
NZ radio programming is done by corporate shills. I remember in 1990 when 'Can't Touch This' was released stations just played it on high rotate til it charted. It took six months.
I also worked in a record store where it was standard practice to rig the chart returns to get more airplay for singles we had too many of in stock.
Mainstreet rocked, the bands that went through that joint!!cold chisel, midnight oil, inxs, icehouse, motorhead, angels and all the kiwi greats !!what an era, awesome!!
Great clip, thanks for posting shows that kiwi music was in a very healthy state back then, what a hoot to see dick Driver performing with the hip singles,

Way cool - I also remember a venue called The Gluepot which I think all of these bands also played at. Great times (showing my age a bit though.)
