There is some racial/cultural bias in this ending. Look closely- Alex, a Caucasian, is on the floor,, beaten, with an American flag over him while Ryu, triumphant, is standing over him, with the sun (Japanese flag) behind him, making him look God-like. Trust me, the Japanese developers totally knew what they were trying to convey- Ryu will always be the main character, not some American.

They used his likeness in this ending, and then they turn around and finally pay for his likeness in Onimusha 3....think about it, if one of his publicists got word that a drawing looking EXACTLY like him on a game or other medium of entertainment, he could most certainly sue.

Alex ending isn't intended to show Alex as weak, but to show that he's still young and immature, thought talented and with a great potential, while Ryu is a very experienced fighter.

I meant TRUE martial arts, not fancy entertainment shows like MMA. It's pretty obvious that strenght and size matters in a true fight, but ABOVE A CERTAIN LEVEL, speed and technique count more.

Also, MMA use limiting rules. In a true fight, a short, quick fighter, won't try to make a submission move or try some fancy kicks on Brock. He would try to kick him in the nuts, blind him, hit a mortal spot like neck or the like. Maybe hit him with an improvised weapon.

One of the strongest martial artists i've had the honour of seeing in person, Masaru Miura, is, like, 160 cm of height. Nowadays he's old, but i guess he can still kick some ass. Back when he was young he was A MONSTER.
