  • a very fine actor and a brave gallant gentleman

  • he's my great uncle!

  • Did you know him?

  • My favorite actor of the fifties and sixties. many thanks for producing this tribute.

    'There is always the unexpected'.

  • When you kick a radio or tv set sometimes it makes it work because there could be a loose connection that makes better contact .

  • Great actor.

  • Yes,yes.. alas the old sod is not here among us lingering prats. Though he lives on through the screen, thank you for the post. Some of us cheer for him everyday still! :)

  • I like his films from the 50s, The Cruel Sea and The Long Arm were very good. In the last seven years of his life he was still doing some fine acting, albeit with his voice dubbed of course.

  • My favorite of his performances is probably The Prisoner with Alec Guinness. Granted I haven't seen The Cruel Sea, but he was really impressive in that one. His work in Bridge on the River Kwai and Lawrence of Arabia is excellent too.

  • Yes, he was very good in The Prisoner although Sir Alec had the more intertesting part. Hawkins really was a very underrated actor, it's a shame he is mainly forgotten today.
