If you don't stress an engine, then how will you know what's likely to break first, so you can either improve it, or make sure that it won't just explode and become dangerous? Every engine in every car on the road right now, had the prototype engine stressed like this, and then some.. most manufacturers even pick random engines off the line, and just blow them up to make sure they'll cover 100,000 miles of normal use

  • I love how long it took the fire to start, you could see it smoking there, not quite starting, for probably over a minute. If ANYONE had have bothered to visually look at the engine, there wouldn't have been a fire at all. It almost seems to me as though it was done intentionally.

  • @DivineWindSerpent It probably was intentional. Run an engine as hard as you can till it breaks so you can see how much abuse your design can take. Then make adjustments accordingly

  • a race engine... What is the point of stresstesting it on full rpm for this long? Ah, I got it, propably ovaltrack. Pedal to the metal and steerin on one position. Coffeepan on and some sandwich.. Then we evaluate at finish line, who crashed, who slept on the wheel and so on. Suits to American car sports, as american cars are not made for cornering... (now starting counting hatemail... :D )

  • @ChrisTheChronic Sounds to me like the RPM is just getting lower very slowly, probably because of changes in the engine as it heats up or throttle control.

  • @ChrisTheChronic well, the exhaust's are getting red hot, so think about the piston! it is expanding with the heat and is the losing power as it scrapes the barrel

  • The 'bandage' wrapping around the collector is not flamable, it is asbestos, just about like you can get at your local N.A.P.A. or just about anyother auto parts store. By local I mean in the US of A of course. lol. The fire was cause by oil dripping on it from the rocker arm cover. Although this being a race engine like this would have though it would be synthetic oil which has an enormously high burn temp. Not saying just saying.

  • @brenthoser99 That engine is 4 stroke so intake valve opens at intake stroke, then it closes for compression stroke. Then power stroke, both valves are still closed for combustion. Then piston comes up for exhaust stroke so the exhaust valve will be open to deplete the burned gases. 4 stroke cycle will be two revolutions. Basically right now the engine is running at full load, more than 10,000 RPM. Valves would be opening and closing more than 166 times per second!

  • @gambrazzio6989 reliability tests, on the race track is pretty brutal, high rpms all of the time where the power is, and tuning to the perfection on different loads. All gears are not same.
