I kind of wish he would have had the talk with that one school, I do understand his frustration with them, though; hell, I most likely would have walked out as well, if i were in his shoes.
"There are many stupid people in MENSA." Indeed. And most of the great minds never cared to be a member... or take a tenuous IQ test that doesn't take a consistent measure of anything aside from motivation and self-efficacy.
Interesting, there is a bit of discrepancy in Randi's story about Sunday school. In another version of the story, his parents find out he's no longer going to school, but buying the sudae and they punish him for lying to them.
you go to a medium sized room in an office building, and 1 guy takes about 2 hours out of his time to take this tests which consists of about 30 questions or so in 2 categories, and in the end they give you a piece of paper with 2 numbers on them, both of which representing an 'IQ equivalent'.
Thanks for posting, I appreciate the content being available, but I also agree with other comments about the intro, there's pointless footage at the start and given it's at five minutes, it's a bit too long in fairness.
Can't you just see him: He's standing there with his epic Gandalf beard as Sylvia Brown is lurching down the tunnel and croaking in her hideous monster voice and he's all "You shall not pass!!!!"
@wspol624 you dont need to be a psychic to do a small background check and see that JREF are obligated LEGALLY to give the $1,000,000 to the winner of the challenge. if they dont, they will be shut down and james randi and the donors for the money will be sent to jail.
@razzledazzle15 I see your point and somewhat agree, but for people who knew nothing about Randi, myself included, it was a good introduction to his character and past works.
@HamboneProductions I think that a separate linked "introduction to James Randi" video would be better. Most people who are looking for a video like this (talk at a convention) are likely already familiar with James Randi. Those who aren't familiar but interested are likely to search for information about him on their own or follow a link if you provide it.
@HamboneProductions I thought it was fine. I just wish it could have been a direct video instead of recording the projection. Oh well, better than nothing, eh?
I was referring to Windows Media Player, which was used to play the intro. I didn't realise when I posted the comment that it was a recording of a presentation. I since deleted the comment. I apologise for leaving such a stupid comment. D:
I laughed so loud @ "I was born at a very early age" that my cat (in front of me) nearly had a heart attack. I had to comfort him afterwards and assure him I would never scare him like that again.
Thanks for being such a wonderful human Randi. I truly appreciate your intellect and humor.
I went to Skepticon to see Randi, but I left having enjoyed every speaker I saw. If you liked this, I highly recommend checking out the other Skepticon videos as they become available.
it's the church of atheism, preaching the "good news", condemning unbelieving heretics, guilt tripping the faithful into testifying to their faith.

Do not justify yourself. To include extra footage or information no matter how mundane someone might view it as being, is NEVER a bad thing. EVER.
