  • All the grandeur and the sublime magnificence of the prelude is emaciated by the quick tempo. Charpentier's original conception was intended to transfuse that feeling which would be imposed if the veils of the skies were about to be lifted and His Glory to be revealed before our eyes. A slower prelude rendition would restore it. The rest though, is impeccable!

  • Ma pièce préférée de Charpentier ! Effectivement, l'interprétation est une des meilleures qu'il m'a été donné d'entendre. Le seul point qui me dérange c'est "l'écho" qu'on entend durant les parties chantées particulièrement ... Je ne sais pas si c'est dû au lieu dans lequel l'enregistrement a été fait et si ça a été fait exprès ?! Mais c'est assez étrange pour un enregistrement ...

  • Nice! This is probably one of the best interpretations of the Charpentier Prelude to Te Deum I've heard. It's great because it has guts, the trumpets and kettledrums don't hold back. Much bettern that awkward cutesy Wynton Marsaillis version that everyone seems to love...this one is much more historically accurate I'm sure!

  • la vitesse depend de comment le chef d'orchestre a voulu interpreter l'oeuvre, avec quel sentiment. Le tempo dans lequel l'oeuvre a été composée n'est pas forcement une normalisation, il peut etre acceleré ou ralenti, c'est ce qui fait toute la force de la musique classique.

  • C'est pas la vrai musique elle est beaucoup moin rapide l'originale mais je pense que c'est pour faire moin long elle dure 30min la musqiue je croit donc 30min sur Youtube c'est beaucoup !

  • @oldbaxter : Unfortunately it's not the Louvre. It is... the Tribunal de Commerce (Business tribunal) of Paris. Idk why the author shows this picture but it is really that tribunal lol

  • Das gab es als CD von der Deutschen Grammophon..blaues Cover mit dem Petersdom drauf. hiess "Te Deum".. waren noch die Te Deums von Mozart Verdi und Pärt drauf.

  • Thanks, protestant7, from Lima, Perú. I played this work as a violinist at the Choir of the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú many years ago. The only thing that I observe in this version is that they follow a non strict pronuntiation of Latin. On the musical point of view, otherwise, this recording is lifelike and beautiful & I hear this record frequently. Thanks again.

  • minor drawback: the recording's actually in c, but great work nonetheless. fiery quality of the prelue which is otherwise rarely heard in other recordins. this one i like best

  • No it isn't... it's in D. They've just chosen a historic pitch, a=392Hz which is approximately a tone lower than modern concert pitch. Most period performances are at a=415Hz, which would sound a semitone higher than this recording, or a semitone lower than concert pitch.

    la proninzia francese del latino, se non abituati, è un po' difficile da mandar giù

  • Se è per questo, mi è capitato di cantarlo e ti assicuro che la pronuncia era peggiore...una versione filologicamente corretta, col ritmo dell'incipit puntato alla francese, e una pronuncia del latino come presumibilmente doveva essere quella francese all'epoca... sembrava quella dell'ispettore Cloiseau nella "Pantera rosa"...

  • Now this sounds like a hymn of Thanksgiving! Great tempo, notes inegale, well-cast voices, excellent disposition of forces, elegant ornament. The pomposity of so many other versions is very evident in contrast: no wonder many people find Baroque/Rococo music dull when so often poorly performed, unlike this version. I would love to hear C's Grand Magnificat by the same group.

  • Poliziano, noi Italiani chiaramente propugnamo un'altra pronuncia per la lingua latina, ma dobbiamo prendere atto che, musicologicamente parlando, questo tipo di "lectio restituta" è l'unico corretto per la musica antica francese. Accettiamola e facciamoci l'orecchio (anche se Charpentier si è formato in Italia eheh...)Riguardo a Minkowski-esecuzione a mio parere inattaccabile, stimolante nei tempi, nella timbrica e nell'articolazione delle inegalitées.

Le Roi Louis XIV avait sacrifié sa vaiselle d'argent pour payer les troupes.

  • Il s'agit de la bataille contre la ligue d'Augsbourg à la tête de laquelle on trouvait l'Angleterre et les Provinces Unies. La "victoire" est en fait une neutralisation réciproque.

    Mais le royaume de France s'en est mieux sortie en récupérant le plus gros producteur de sucre (St Domingue). ^^

    Sinon, le tempo du Te Deum est parfait ! J'adore.
