  • Looks awesome! One question - have there been any further updates to this mod since it was introduced? I've looked at the linked site above and can't tell. I have Nexus (and love it) but I have been a tragic failure at modding or mission creation, so I was curious if any more ship types and missions been added?

  • Play this in 720p on a big screen with good speakers or headphones.

    .

Going to unfreeze my spine now..

  • really gay music

  • The effects are really good, best ones I've seen so far, too bad they are not in FS2O Engine.

  • @saultube44

OMG if Freespace SCP could be like that ! it will be so epic !!!

  • @siph06 I have found out that the DirectX Engine uses a lot of shaders to get that effect, so is pretty much the same than FS2O but with more effects.

  • @saultube44

    ok thanks for tips :)

  • @siph06 You're welcome and BTW There is a new release of FSO (3.6.14 RC4) and it has shaders, so it has better effects now: w w w [.] hard-light [.] net /forums/index[.]php?topic=79747.0

  • Love the game, but one think I never understood: Why do I have to be blinded by the nearby stars, when looking in their direction? With all these technologies, its still impossible to develop some kind of sunblind? 737 have it. Hell, antique archers were able to protect their eyesight against direct sunlight and I'm blinded in the fuckin starship, which must be shielded against space radiation if the pilot is to survive anyway. Makes no sense

  • @mozeg2cz There's no air in space to blunt the light from the star, what you are seeing is probably the best the GTVA could manage without interfering with the pilot's ability to do his job.

  • @lorzon bollocks, with obviously sophisticated targeting system, the sunblind could lock onto a star and block the view localy. Or possibility to switch off visual interference completely, using only targeting system would be also logical, sometimes you dont need it and its only distracting

  • @mozeg2cz In FS2, for good or ill, they fly open glass cockpit fighters and bombers, There's no fancy LCD glass that can black out certain features in the sky. It's your eyes, your radar, and your reflexes.

  • @lorzon cmon man, i fly in the REAL plane, we have no fancy lcd too, but there IS a sunblind. you fuckin need it when you fly in the direction of a sun. in game, i got pulverized at least once by shivan fighter kamikazing me directly from the star. would the gtva be willing to sacrifice pilots, because it does not happen very often? and btw, it seems to me that your hud is projected to your windshield (cannot be helmet, because you dont see it, when you turn your head), maybe fancy lcd after all

  • @mozeg2cz Dude, I think you are missing the point of it all. This is a game that was made in 1999. The fact that people are not only still playing it, but modding the ever loving hell out of it and porting it's style to different games altogether show's how great a game it is. But it is just a game, I've been playing it since it came out and I've probably been shot down from sunblindness hundreds of times, but it doesn't stop me from enjoying the THOUSANDS of times I squeaked a win.

  • @lorzon I know very well when was the game made, I also played and enjoyed it many times. But I am not going to delude myslef that what i like is perfect - and this game have many flaws, especially impossible effect in vacuum, like fire, sounds and spreading of kinetic effect. Insufficient sun protection is just the minor one. Criticism serves to help improve imperfection, not to insult, in which case I think maybe you might missed the point. Nevertheless, I am happy you enjoy the game as I did.

  • Vsudaner Vs GTVA ??? Why i think they are friends and the Shivana are eviel :)

  • OMG TALKING 1 HOUR TO DOWNLOAD IT BETTER BE WORTH IT!

  • Someone MUST make a Freespace 2 mod which combines flight simulation gameplay with real-time strategy, where players can choose to play as pilots or as starship captains/gunners, OR as players who play as Allied Command to move/shift fleet resources across systems.

That is something I would like to see instead of just new graphic engine mods.

Kind of like the Natural Selection mod for half life.

  • oh my god! awesome! Cant wait to see this released, I loved the Freespace games.

  • Awesome, i loved Freespace & i always wanted a strategy game in the freespace universe.

Do i need to install Nexus first or is it standalone

  • @unamaxify No, the mod is not standalone - a working Nexus installation is required.

  • @arparso

    ok thanks

i guess i have to rifle through my stuff to find my copy of nexus, its been a while...

this mod is definitely worth it !

  • I like how this looks better than the old cutscenes from Descent: Freespace.

    WHAT HAS SCIENCE DONE?!?!

  • it must take a high powered system to play this game with all the graphics.. unless this is just a cinematic teaser and not real game play screens

  • @xadam2dudex

No, this is actual gameplay from actual missions, only with the GUI disabled and camera angles more up close than what you'd typically use while playing.

You don't need a high-end PC for that. The base game "Nexus - The Jupiter Incident" is nearly 7 years old and runs very well on todays hardware, even low-end. The mod is a bit more demanding, of course, but free to try.

  • @arparso where do u download nexus

  • @coldskin1 you can buy it at Steam for a few bucks or find an old retail copy of the game somewhere

  • when will it realease ?

  • @MrKane1992

A first version of the mod containing everything you see in the trailer (and a bit more) is available at ModDB - see the video or the video description for a link to the mod's site.

  • WOW

  • I wish the game was as good as it shows in YiuTube but 99% of the time you fight for your life and can't appreciate the scenarios/battle and some of the forum moderators are morons, these factors should be corrected.

  • @saultube44 Wait... what forum moderators? What forum? There is no official forum for the mod or the full game - you sure you're correct here?

  • @arparso FreeSpace 2 SCP (Source Cod Project) is run officially by Hard Light Productions now, and they have a forum. As I wrote some are some not, many people complain about it; some mods will give you flame bait and once you bite they'll flame and lock the thread, if you complain you get banned in some cases others you get warnings and negative points, specially those moderators that have made mods for FS2 SCP. Egotistical know-it-alls, they should see the movie 'Revolver'

  • @saultube44 This is not a mod FOR Freespace, though, but a Freespace-themed mod for Nexus. If you wish to complain about the SCP forums and their moderators, this is not the right place to do so.

  • @arparso It is a place to express myself and will.

  • @saultube44 Yet another FS movie you decided to troll yesterday? How many does that make? Ten?

  • @Bobopoa I'm not a dumb kid, I'm a man and so I don't troll I write the truth, trolling is for idiots.

  • I'll have to correct myself on a detail (YouTube y u no edit button?), the original blob turret shot is just a stretched circle, not tear-dropped.

  • I love this game.

  • Why are they trying to make it look like X3?

  • @sspope Do Explain. FreeSpace and X Universe look nothing alike.

  • @SpootKnight Those slow shiny shots fired from caps turrets.

  • @sspope To be fair, FreeSpace blob turrets *are* slow like PPCs, so their behavior here is like they are on the actual FreeSpace games, though in appearance, PPC shots are more stout and round, not tear-dropped like in FreeSpace (More arrow-shaped on the FSU) or trailing like shown in this Evolutions video.

  • for nexus the mod ? ;D very nice I can have the commando abbout a big ship ;D

  • the mod is amazing graphics ;D

  • there won't be a second part of this mod ? because there are just a few ship, and where is the orion class something ? anyway the mod is very cool, and it's much better if you use the nexus skirmisher to create your own mission... but I think there should be a second part... (sorry for bad english)

  • @swfan70 Don't worry, there'll be more updates coming soon enough. :)

  • @arparso Oh great ! recently I played freespace again, and I realized that there can be much more ships... for example the big juggernaut (I hope I wrote it well) the colossus, the Icini, the Ravana etc. Thank you for reply :) (sorry again if I had some mistakes)

  • how did you do that without any hud?

  • @galaxy366 I use the mission editor and a bunch of handy cheat scripts to remove the hud for a few seconds. My usual procedure would be to pause the game, look for a cinematic camera angle, unpause and use the cheat hotkeys to trigger the scripts. Simple but effective, I believe. Search in my Skirmisher forum for "screenshot mode" and you'll see a variant of the script.

  • HELL YES. THIS would be a mod to play! =3

Definitely got to try this one. :D

  • Congrats to you for the release! downloading now :)

  • Great stuff. Always thought that Nexus had so much potential for modding and was a very good if unbalanced game, yet Sierra who published it were at deaths door at the time and the game was almost forgotten. Great engine that still looks fantastic, and what you have done by making Freespace into a tactical RTS of the Homeworld mold using the Nexus engine is jawdropping.

  • Wow! Freespace is REALLY in every GENRE at home! Whether its a 3d action space simulator game or an RTS it is and WILL always be EPIC!

Thanks for this as I will gladly play it buddy.

  • I haven't checked in on this in several months

I'm impressed with how it's turning out, too bad I don't have the game in question hur hur

  • @Eltrotraw Then you should get it - it's just 10 bucks on Steam and totally worth it, if you're into SciFi at all :)

  • @arparso FS2 is on Steam? I don't see it...

  • @caelumarisen Nope, I meant Nexus - The Jupiter Incident, which is available on Steam for around $10. Freespace: Evolution is a mod for Nexus, not Freespace ;)

If you want to get Freespace, try gog.com - they have both Freespace games for around $6 each and absolutely DRM-free.

  • Great work there, Arparso!! Thanks again for your ongoing contributions to the greatness that is Nexus. Can't wait to see this complete.

The devs of FS2 were kind enough to release the source code for their game; I wish the devs of Nexus: TJI would do the same if they're not making a sequel.

  • I still have the game and when you release this gem - I'm the first one to grab it.

    Incredible work there, Sir!

  • those space scenes are epic arparso ;)!
