  • BBC,you guys screwed up the spelling. In Malay,PERANG is war, while PARANG is machete so the right spelling would be PARANG.Just switch the second letter from E to A.Still a good documentary anyway:-)

  • @1buckshort yea it supposed to sound like PAR-RUNG, not PER-RANG

  • 5 people who were lost in the jungle then found crying and shivering in the rain next to a tree disliked this video

  • @ghorip Yeah I know, All of the Alifuru tribes in Maluku (eastern Indonesia or originally west Melanesia) were known as hardcore warriors. thats why the Dutch took them as allies in many wars. even the japs were too scared to go into the mountains in WW2 though...

  • Looks he is using a martindale golok at the end of the video...

  • shit you could make a permanant shelter

  • Respond to this video... Excellent video and good points for the A Frame and where to get fresh water.

  • @practicalwhacktical I don't think he actually spit it out. Try drinking from a water bottle that isn't touching your lips, but is WAY above your head. Lowering your head makes it easier to swallow.

  • @practicalwhacktical he missed judged how much water he can hold in his mouth ....thats it

  • @practicalwhacktical He was just clearing his mouth idiot.

  • @EnigmaHood It's a joke idiot.

  • @practicalwhacktical Jokes are supposed to be funny idiot.

  • @EnigmaHood It's the top rated comment here so enough people found it funny and only one idiot is complaining about it.

  • @practicalwhacktical Lol wow! It's the top rated comment! Here's your trophy for being a loser! And no, plenty of other people corrected your ignorant statement. Nice try dummy. :)

  • @EnigmaHood Actually it was only 2 other people that sent me a message about it, and neither of them was an asshole like you. I know why you're upset. You lack the creativity to come up with your own humorous comments so the best you can do is try to tear down someone else's. It's the typical heckler attitude that's born out of a feeling of inadequacy. Maybe some day you'll grow out of it.

  • These guys are ingenius as hell!

  • that water vine doesnt look wrong at all.

  • WOW...those guys really know their stuff...proffesional builders and masons and survivalists.

  • is call PARANG! not perang haha!

  • I WISH I COUL LIVE LIKE THIS! FREEEE AND HAPPY. FREE FROM BURDENS AND OPPRESSION OF SOCIETY. WARE DID IT ALL GO WRONG!?

  • @Struggle2015 when the government got impersonal.

  • wow, can anyone tell me what that plant at 1:16 is? the one that closes it's leafs together with the rain is falling onto it.

  • @FOATE Its a Mimosa plant

  • @FOATE, I'm not positive what it is, but it looks to me like it would be some type of fern.

  • @FOATE It is called a 'touch me not'

  • @FOATE Mimosa pudica. the 'touch-me-not Mimosa.

  • actually its PARANG not PERANG,

    PERANG = WAR

    PARANG = MACHETE

  • 2:50 doesn't he spit all that water out??

  • @music4rituals He did spit it out.

  • extreme sharp machete (parang) man best friend in jungle

  • Damn. BBC and Youtube wants us to make tribal weapons.

  • Comment removed

  • Machete is a MUST in the rain forest. Very effective tool in the jungle. These people are the true survivalists just like the natives around the world.

  • see living an hunter-n-gathering life in a rain forest is qutie the life.you hyave all ur resources watar plent and hundreds of animals to hunt.

  • Hey there I've written a song dedicated to Bushcraft ace Ray Mears.

Please check it out on my channel if you can spare a moment.

  • it's just a machette. nothing special about it. Grukha knife is cooler

  • Those bois knew what they were doing alright, and they had snazzy Ikea uniforms too.

  • Bamboo in the tropics is alot different than bamboo in more northern climates.Bamboo here in Pennsylvania is hard as a rock. The bamboo in the video looks like a joy to work with.

  • @warriorofsteel01 in bryan texas, they have this grove, beautiful bamboo. but even with a saw its hard to get through. and its not even that thick. you get the occasional wrist thicks but mostly they would make wonderful wonderful fishing poles. though truthfully a machete prolly could snick them. just didnt have mine at the time because we walked through town to get it.

  • HAHAH! PACKED WITH WATER?! ..... yeah

  • masters at work

  • This is "Parang (Indonesian word )" not "Perang" because the meaning of perang is war in english

  • @Putra766 so its a "War machete" according to the title of the video!

  • @Putra766

    That's right! Stupid BBC! LOL!

  • he spits the water out last minute if you notice at the end of the video.

  • @TheCrashesshit yeah in a split second you can see something that looks like water come out of his mouth, but it may just be our eyes.

  • @TheCrashesshit i think he only spits out a tiny bit because he had too much in his mouth.

  • i hate commercials.

  • it's like a man vs wild..

  • god whenever i watch these rainforest scenes i get so damn thirsty. then i see a water purifier ad on the right of the video. finally at the end of this video he drinks that pure as hell water and im dying for a drink.

  • great clips

  • I have a perang knife, very sharp, good for chopping or even fine cutting.

  • holy crap that is sharp

  • Filho da puta.. tinha que mostra a cabana pronta..

Os indio são foda vélho.. como eles consegue emm mano.. muito inteligente usar a natureza a seu favor....

  • u gotta love ray, hes full of inuendos

  • this is real tight. that machete's like a razor.

  • at the very end he spits out the water....

  • Why does he cut the water vine from bottom to top? Cutting the bottom first should decrease the amount of water in the section of the vine due to capillary action.

  • get a glass of water with a straw. Hold your finger over the end of the straw and pull it out of the water. The water doesn't drop out of the straw because your finger prevents air from filling the space left by the water. Its the same with the vine, cutting it at the top first allows the water in that section to flow back into the root system of the vine.

  • Water moves up the xylem through a process called capillary action. Capillary action allows water to be pulled through the thin tubes because the molecules of the water are attracted to the molecules that make up the tube. The water molecules at the top are pulled up the tube and the water molecules below them are pulled along because of their attraction to the water molecules above them.

  • Does anyone know a solid source explaining this? I've heard mixed information from many people with a lot of experience in the bush.

John "Lofty" Wiseman for instance, in his book SAS Survival, he says the top of the vine should be cut first.

  • @nwood1311

I know a good source of explaining this: it's called trial and error. Cut one top first and one bottom first and find out for yourself. After all, there isn't exactly a shortage of those things in a jungle. Jesus, some people ask the most ridiculous questions.

  • I to have that book and always refer to cutting the top first eventhough bear grylls and ray mears seem to cut the bottom first

  • yeah we use to build this kind of things back home....

  • damn these things aere sharp!

  • Where can I get a traditional Parang? Anyone know any good sites?

  • have no idea m8. but I think google might have the answer for you :)

  • where does a village get a sharpening stone that makes a machete cut through bamboo like a hot knife through butter?

  • @SleepingWolf26 It probobly depends on that persons skill. With a regular old rock you can sharpen a machete pretty sharp. but if your lucky and find a nice smooth stone and you have good skill you can get it sharp as a razor.

  • @rawrtater I would guess so in this villages case. All though just seeing the cutting power of the Perang makes me want to get one.

  • @SleepingWolf26 yep me too I also want one.

  • i miss playing with the plant at 1:16 :)

  • lol what plant is that? :)

  • u no wat shut the fuk up tracey cuz wat u need to sharpen is that head of urs fuk offf

  • BE POLITE. This is Youtube, not an impoliteness contest. Oh and by the way, MY pseudonym is jjovereats. Addotionally, if your Perang/machete is at end-of-life, buy a new one.

  • i have a machete but its really dull
