In a republic people are governed by laws which were layed down ahead of time by elected officials. In a democracy, majority rules, reguardless of how things were done before, if 51% of the people decide they want to do it different this time that's how it's done.
That may work out great some of the time, but it could also be very disasterous if 51% of the people get the wrong idea.

I don't advocate drug use, in most cases. But alcohol is no longer the trade of really bad men (mobsters) because the potential for ridiculous profits was stripped away. I'd vote to legalize EVERYTHING that doesn't intrude upon somebody's own liberties. So that excludes rape and murder (etc). But you have your own right to do whatever to your body.

Colmes did ask some good questions about Barr's past voting and policy record and did bring up general libertarian views that Barr does not hold.
Hannity, when Bush did nothing about tour boarders, do you bring that up?
Hannity, when Bush took away our civil liberties, do you bring that up?
Barr should have pointed our Hannity's 'die-hard' support of Bush while Bush destroyed the constitution.

What neither Hannity nor Colmes seem to understand is that Barr was emphasising limited federal government and turn most powers to the states. State rights is such a foreign concept to some people. Really pathetic Sean using Barr as a scapegoat if McCain looses. If MaCain looses it was because people did not want the one the Republicans ran as president. Plain and simple.

i actually just decided im voting Bob Barr of the Libertarian Party instead after reading an article Baldwin wrote entitled "Christian Right Just Doesn't Get It." In the 2nd paragraph he says, "We are pro-life; we stand for marriage as God defined it, we believe children should have the right to pray in school." He's too much of a theocrat for me. Im pro-choice and I support ALL individual rights including gays. SEPARATION OF CHURCH AND STATE! I guess I'm more libertarian than conservative.

A Ron Paul write-in can only be counted if he files for write-in status. Otherwise, it just gets thrown out which DOES make it a wasted vote. And if you're going to make a comment saying my "vote doesn't count anyway", why do you give a shit who I vote for?
It's too bad the Republicans didn't nominate Ron Paul as their Presidential candidate. It would have made voting a lot easier! I'm just praying for an embarrassing and humiliating election for McCain. I hope he gets his ass kicked!

Just being sarcastic about your vote not counting. I do care who you vote for, I just think that "he who counts the vote, controls the vote." I have no faith in the counters. So, I vote for what I believe in, it's my last chance ever.
I agree that Baldwin (if what you quote is true), went too far with those comments. However, our foreign policy is the real issue. I could care less whether someone is pro-life, pro-choice, or whatever. Just get us out of the middle east before it is too late!
