To answer your request: I didn't feel it, because I always pick and choose my comics. I'm guilty for helping ASM with the price jump, but I do love that book, but I would like to see more from my books.
happy 4th I have not got to watch your videos since I been helping put down 13,000 yards of carpet for all the governors and obama coming down in a few weeks.
i don't get overwhelmed because all my stuff is waiting for me in my box. i know what i want and i know what i'll be getting. there's a seldom a time when i'm in the store and go "Oh! this looks good! i'll grab this too."
it usually takes strong creator teams, interviews, a lot of pre-searching, etc to get me to add something to my list.
needless to say last week was a little overwhelming, but it is true that marvel is only hurting themselves. I skipped a few books that were on my pull-list, all marvel titles. And i refuse to buy any dark reign mini's.
Don't blame capitalism for the way the comic book industry is going. Blame Marvel or DC, but don't blame the whole economic system for $4 comic books. If you have a problem with a company, don't buy that company's product. If you buy Invincible Iron Man, you're knowingly contributing to the company that charges $4 on other #1 issues. Let Marvel destroy itself and learn from its mistakes if it survives.
Ummm...'don't blame capitalism'? But what you're describing IS capitalism. Marvel looks to maximize its profits by raising its prices to what they think the market will bear. Even if it 'destroys itself', that's still result of a capitalist system. I'm not saying it's bad, but ya' gotta call a spade a spade in this case.
If your blaming it your saying it's in some way at fault. If someone gets alcohol poisoning from drinking too much, it's not the fact that people are free to drink alcohol that is the problem, it's the fault of the idiot for drinking too much. In a capitalist market companies are allowed to raise prices (screw themselves). If they do, it's their fault, not the fault of the system that allows them to do so. All I'm saying is don't blame economic freedom as the cause of high comic book prices.
I brought every civil war, intiative, world war hulk, and almost all secret invasion tie ins. There were good stories and issues I dont regret getting while there also a bunch that I do. I feel like banging my head against the table thinking about it. I hated New warriors, I feel bad for wasting my money on a good amount of this. Civil war got be back into comics and before was just mangas, video games and anime dvds until the major hyped interesting concepts of Civil war. in early 06.
I reread Civil war frontline 11 and got so mad at that stupid Sally Floyde character(mispelled but who cares for her) and how her augrment with Cap was so shallow and how Cap just let her have the last word, she was like that in World war hulk when she gave the finger to daredevil. man, I never cuss out or got mad at a issue like this one well maybe on the ealry BND day spideys.
I almost cried myself to sleep thinking how much money I would have saved if I didn't compromise myself and brought comics that I didn't even enjoy. I'll be honest, Majority of Brand new day Spider-man, I would read some of them and I would be like WTF is this. I almost ripped the Bob Gale issue in half out of anger. Civil War #5, Iron Spider get taken down by z-list villians instead of Venom, bullseye, and Green Goblin which the cover mislead. Ironman attacking Spidey when he about to leave.
Yeah, I feel really overwhelmed this week and I feel like a dumbass for buying so many books of dark reign even when I got a good 25 percent discount at my comic shop. I would hate how much my bill comes if I went to a average comic shop that would not be as generous. I guess Iike the character of Norman Osborn and attracted to Dark Reign. Yes comics is a drug and I feel like I need to go on a 12 step program or rehab. I admitted and keep giving myself excuses when to stop.
So basically Marvel is the Federal Reserve 'printing money' (ie printing comics and variants) and progressively lessening their value and creating periods of 'booms' and 'busts'.
Marvel books I bought through all this Dark Reign stuff: Fantastic Four and Dark Reign Fantastic Four. Marvel can put out a million and one titles for all I care but I like the FF so that's the one I buy.
That being said, I'm waiting for the trade of DR Electra since I've heard good things about it. But what happens to Spidey and Wolvie really doesn't bother me. How can anyone take Spidey seriously after one more day?
I remember Atlantis Attacks which was followed by Acts of Vengeance. And I remember many people purchasing all of these comics. Including annuals & bimonthly comics for comics they normally didn't read. Would you say that now is different from 1989?
I'm having fun with Indyplanet's comic of the month club, Unknown, Mr. Stuffins, GI Joe Cobra, Unwritten, Fables/Jack of Fables, and Astro City.
I'm waiting for Archaia's new titles to start this month!
I remember those times mate, I remember Uncanny coming out 3 times a month for a while. What I would say is different now is that the number of active comic buyers is far fewer now that 89.
Theres some nice fumetti comics at indyplanet, some good creativity there plus the vertigo stuff you name is great, have you tried Madame Xanadu?
Fumetti... I don't know that there's was a word to describe that. :)
I bought issues 10-12 of Madame Xanadu but I haven't made time to read them. Too much time watching youtube, reading fumetti and reading about fumetti.
I bought 5 DC books & 4 Marvel books last week. It was a high week but I still bought more DC/Vertigo than Marvel. DC Comics Where the Action is (reading more DC than Marvel for 26 years in a row).
Marvel is differently out of hand with Dark Reign. Dark Reign would be ok if they just keep it in Sercet Warriors, Dark Avengers, Thuderbolts, and rotate different characters in those books when need be.
l mean seriously, what's the next course of action? lt's fairly obvious that much of the buying public is going 2 swill down whatever garbage that the big two shoves in their faces
At this rate, it looks like their would have 2 be something of an exodus 2 tilt everything back on its axis. Unfortunately 4 an exodus 2 occur the rank and file would have 2 be the ones heading the line.
Do either of u guys see a bottom 2 this pit? 4 the past three 2 five yrs it seems Marvel and perhaps 2 a sleightly lesser extent DC has been "eventing" their patrons in2 an almost comatose state.
E, u've said while holding up a Dk. Rgn. title 2 the buying masses; "is this what u want, is this what u really want?" Well it seems 2 me that...that boat has sailed!
The question that remains now is--what about those of us that dont need a bazillion different Avengers&X-men titles?
i didnt notice it alot because i got to my shop before they put stuff on the shelves but i did notice alot of fucking books coming out on marvels website

My biggest beef with Marvel at this point is the amount of titles I have to file under "D" at the store.

CBR posted an interview with Joey Q. today yet again explaining why Marvel comic prices are going up.

It makes me sick that DARK REIGN has the 5 top books out, when there are so many smaller comic companies that just are better.

You guys (or anyone else) reading those Marvel 70th Anniversery books they've been publishing?
I read the "Young Allies" one at the store today and it had a really great Capt. Bucky story in it, written by Stern.

well its been a though month for me here's why :
the week of 06/24/09 I had to pay 30 euros for my MARVEL books only and that stands for 42 dollars.
yes 42 FRIKKEN dollars for MARVEL only on that week.
I feel I've been ripped cause i'm paying for 22 page storys with some kind of bullshit reprint or saga which i don't want.
and now even DC is putting a 4 dollar cover price of some of there books like batman.
so if it's going to be like this I no longer can't afoord my hobby here in Holland/

As we all know -in 1993 the speculator market crashed and devestated the industry for the rest of the 90s.
Now in this 21st century depression economy-- MARVEL has the balls to oversaturat teh market and raise prices.
Well the joke is on them..... On the east coast the are still comic conventions.
At these cons you can find books from 2-3 months ago for $1 or under.
And stuff form the 70s-now for 25 cents.
Amazon and Mile high comics has similar discounts.
The joke is on you MARVEL
