They are dope MCs I dont deny that, but with a rap style that relies a lot on punchlines it's next to impossible to make a complete album that is full of new ideas. As for Big L i said his voice was Lightweight, the tone of his voice meant he didnt have that distinct gravitas like other recognisable voices Biggie, Tupac, Nas, Chuck D, Dr Dre, DMX, Big Pun , Busta..et al. As a lyricist yes L probably the nastiest punchliner ever.

I get really amazed at people who r always mentioning Big L on Biggie and 2pac songs....Yes, Big L had dope punch lines, some of the dopest and nastiest ever...but he didnt sound right...his voice was a bit lightweight..and his rhyme schemes were too one dimensional...punchline after punchline is all good but it cant carry a whole album. Punchline rappers find it hard to make good albums, examples Jadakiss, Lloyd Banks, Cassidy...these guys always run out of ideas on their albums.
