  • Thank you

  • Thank Yu ! :)

  • Thank you

  • 凄い!どうしてそんな綺麗に折り目がつくですか?生地が違うのか、洗って干したら皺くちゃで折り目もなくてごわごわ(TT)

  • Well thank you very much.I Tried :D . I hope its okay :D

  • Thank you sir ^_^

  • I'll have my own hakama and keikogi by the end of the week or the beginning of next week, hopefully! Thank you alot for this "how-to"! It will greatly help me when folding my hakama and gi the first few times, until I get the hang of it! Once again, thank you! :)

  • The method is taught nicely, but your dojo manners are not very good. don't sit with your knees up, or with your legs stretched out.

  • @Kasaidon You make a good point, if he was folding his hakama on his own. However, he was simply trying to make room for the camera to get all the angles and not be obstructed by his body.

  • @burgess77

Then it would be the angle problem, if he could shift the angle a bit, there would not be a problem catching every bit and still mantain a proper sitting posture :x

    Well, its still just saying.

  • @Kasaidon Quite frankly, he can sit however the hell he wants to.

  • i just got my hakama today and i learned quick to put it on but the folding is prety hard to me and this vid also helped me on folding it.

  • Folding my gi and hakama after the trainig is like having a small mokuso. Relaxing, and u cher up after u see that u did a good job on folding :)

Now I go and do some origami ;)

  • I find this is so much harder to do after a practice. All I want to do is sleep. Thanks for the video.

  • My sensei even didn't ask if I know how to wear and fold hakama... :D yesterday I finally got my kengoGi and tomorrow I need to wear it... You all, who show us how to do that all... thank you <3

  • It almost looks like folding a pull. :)

  • Thank you very much :D

  • i hope soon to be able to weAR HAKAMA

  • Thank you so much ! I am sure I will pass Grade 1 of my Iaido Examination this evening.

  • 道衣と袴の扱い方が雑。

  • Thank you, now I will be ready to fold my own when it comes in the mail. =)

  • thank you veryyyyyyyyyyyyyy much!!!! REALLY useful!!!!!

  • My mind was blown when he folded the straps at the end.

Japanese has such a nice system for folding everything.

  • Thanks a lot

  • Very helpful video! Thanks!

  • Very good ... I will continue to pass this knowledge ... Thank you very much

Sensei Clériston Sales Sorocaba - Brazil

  • Thank you very much for your care and generosity in producing this video. I practice Iaido, and I've just folded my hakama correctly for the first time ever! Trivial though it seems, I now realise that this is an important part of the internal Way, and has helped my understanding, and so leads to progress - a sincere Thank You.

  • Thanks a lot for the video, I tried to learn it with drawings but that is really confusing, it's a lot clearer on vid. And yesterday I was kind of braindead after the training so my senpai could've explained it a hundred times but I stll wouldn't get it.

    By the way;

If the folds are sewed (you can sew the folds yourself) it saves a lot of folding troubles. Mind you, even though if the folds are sewed, you have to fold the hakama correctly or else you get folds where you don't want them to be.

  • awesome video, helped me a lot, thanks ^^

  • Excellent video, I can prepare myself by watching this for when I get my own set.

  • good stuff

  • I have always wondered - now i know. :)

  • and knowing is half the battle

    GI JOOOOOOOE!!!!!

  • My hakama is hard to fold because its black cotton and yeah..

  • thanks, this was very clear and helpful :)

  • arigato gozaimasu for the help!I'm gonna start kendo in 2 weeks i can't wait!

  • Great Video! Really helpful!

  • I really don't see what he's doing to make it so neat/straight. :(

  • It's so the pleats don't lose their nice, crisp appearance. If you fold it sloppily, then the hakama look like crap, which is significant. How quality in which one takes care of his equipment reflects heavily on the kendoka.

  • This was extremely helpful and instructive. I am not sure I got all of the folds correct, but it is the first time I have ever folded a hakama. So I am sure that I will improve as time goes on. Thank you so much for this informative video.

  • Your brilliant question is an answer in itself.

  • Best reply ever ;-)

Thanks for this video! Things like this are very informative for people that want to go into their first Kendo class with some knowledge in their heads!

  • To keep it neat, obviously. Go watch more professional wrestling.

  • Thank you very much for the video ! It did take me like 45 minutes to fold the hakama, but I feel more ready for my first shiai tomorrow !

  • Thanks for the video! My hakama just came in with the EMS today and it's the first day that I used it. thanks to you, it's not gonna lose its form in the wardrobe.

  • I wish traditional Japanese clothing wasn't so uncommon, it's so cool, and looks comfortable, it would be cool to go for a walk in geta and hakama, and etc..

  • It doesn't need to be. Set the trends ! ;)

  • hey thats what I do, sure I get lots of wierd looks but who cares as long as you enjoy what you are doing

    Peace

  • I was recently in Kyoto on vacation and there were people in kimono's all over the place. mostly women and children tho. very few men in their Haori/ Hakama.

  • :O:O:O. Well, it's suprising. Lol, at least women see how good it is :P:P.

  • yeah it's starting to lose style. which is awesome for me because it means i can buy them for really cheap :D

  • i cannot find hakama in shops

  • look on the internet: i got mine from a company called 'nine circles'.

  • Just got mine today! Thank you!

  • ありがとう

  • Gozaimasu

  • great help!

  • Thanks a lot for posting the video. As nearly the 99% of the people that found this video, I had no clue of how fold my new hakama. This was the most clear of the videos posted on the matter.

  • 99% havent been taught by real sensei !!

  • thank you that helps alot i just got mine today^-^

  • thanks for this information!! I practice kendo here in Panama, greetings!

  • Greetings Chaney Sensei! Your instruction is very practical especially when you pointed out the natural fold of the each hakama. After several tries I've realized the pleats are there as guide. True enough, the fold depends on the one wearing it. I've taught this to my fellow kendoka who are beginners(barely a year)themselves. I never leave the dojo without folding my uniform properly. Thanks very much.:)

  • Thanks for posting this. Now I'm glad to be ahead of my sempai in at least one thing now... That is.. folding the hakama properly, XD

  • Watch the video again. You'll see he did indeed fold the longer himo (the "inner" ones) and tied them off using the shorter himo (the "outer" ones).

  • Wow, gee, thanks man! This was REALLY helpful (in particular, I just got my hakama and have NO idea how to treat it XD), so thanks! :D

  • Thanks for this very clear explanation. I tried to fold my hakama from a photo explanation and it ended up very odd in the end! Very worthwhile video.

  • Bravo! thank you so much, that is so helpful.

  • ^^

    yay ty

  • :D I never get mine so thight, handy vid ^^ thx

  • thanks a lot!without this video,my kendo carrier (is that how you write it?) wold have looked grim...

  • May as well chime in w/the others. I'm always grateful for people who take the trouble and time out of their day to make and post this sort of thing. Very generous and excellent Karma. Thanks and best, -- Haywood. Kendo Newbie.

  • Thank you so much! ...a year of kendo and I STILL don't know how to fold my hakama properly. ^____^ You're a life saver.

  • oh thank u very much this vid was alot of help. also does nay1 know how to get the pleats on the hakama back? after hand washing my hakama, all the pleats were gone

  • how many ways of hakama folding are there.. -_-;;?

  • 1 but with 3 varieties to fold its robes. thats what i found out so far..

  • cool very detailed.

  • Wow thanks!! I gave this video a high mark because it's very helpful :)

My Aikido Instructor folds his hakama in a Iaido-style because he also practises Iaido, and the styles of Iaido and Kendo are very similar, so I can watch this video many times to memorize it - in Aikido, there's a tradition in which a student offers to fold his/her Instructor/Sensei Hakama as a way of showing respect and gratitude.

  • thanks, i know now what to do

  • this was the more helpful you tube for folding this mans skirt or Hakama. Reason i got one is A. I wanted to lean Iaido, and Haidong Gumdo. B. Am makeing a movie about well I have not been that far yet. but thank your for the help.

  • Your video helps me a lot!It costs me to fold it so cool as you but finally I get it! yeah!!!!Can you please up a video when you show how to fold the hakama but in the air more quickly??thanksss

  • really helped - thanks man !

  • GOD! that helped me so much man, thanks alot!
