For all those people saying 'why not use a backpack?' this is still a good skill to know. This is what Aragorn did in LotR, it's what everyone did before backpacks were around. You might not have a backpack around, it might wear out over time, or you might not be able to fit your shelter in as well. With this you can use you shelter as your backpack, which will save space and keep your gear dry better since most backpacks aren't water-proof anyway. Food for thought.

Heck if you are too lazy to hunt try and trade something with your neighbors for food! I suggest you look up small game hunting and processing techniques here on YouTube, that should give you some basic knowledge. Don't forget to look up other ways of p

A backpack should have fast and easy access to all items.

For instance what if you hurt yourself really bad and needed the first aid kit, ops, it's tied up worse than a christmas present, you will die before getting to the kit (the unwrapping taking too much time)

I've seen many versions of this used by civilians before but never by military personnel.
