Ah! A good question and I'm glad you asked me that!!
I've tried many ways and means of uploading it without the synchronisation problem to no avail, so I put it to the back burner. I just don't think it does such a fine documentary justice to have it out of synch but I may have to go with it.
Thanks so much for uploading this! I've wanted to see it for years. I don't suppose you've got any of the "Scarfe On..." series kicking about have you? They were pretty good too as I remember....anyway--I don't want to sound ungrateful! Thanks again for posting this!
It's a great documentary but I really want to upload it without the syncronisation problem (see below for the reasons for the sync problem).
I remember recording all the "Scarfe On...." series a few years later in the early 1990s. I seem to remember there was Scarfe On Class, Scarfe On Art, and Scarfe in Paradise.
The only one I kept was Scarfe In Paradise which is on a VHS tape which still plays perfectly. It's great!
@nickhirst999 I would be forever in your debt if you did! That's the one where he gets shot at the beginning, isn't it? I watched them all at the time--never saw "Scarfe On Scarfe"--but the "Scarfe On..." series is kind of etched in my memory. Got a bit of a refreshing when I bought the "Drawing Blood" book--there's a small piece about the series in it with the drawings used to advertise each program. Scarfe is a "national treasure" and quite possibly a genius, in my view.
@nickhirst999 Also I love Scarfe's earlier work--the first decade or so of him publishing--all that cross-hatching with a marked Ronald Searle influence....brilliant. Do you know anything about his falling out with Ralph Steadman in the mid-sixties? Always wondered about that....
Blimey! That was quick! Especially as we were only in the pub a few hours ago and the subject of this upload was not mentioned!
Well the trouble is that I recorded it on Betamax in 1986. I still have the orig tape and Sanyo recorder but the Beta tape is now knackered. This is from the VHS copy I did from the Beta in 1992. Then it's transferred to DVD (VOB file) Then it's converted from VOB to Xvid (AVI) and then again transferred to YT. This is the 6th time I've tried!
......furthermore, Rev, it's frustrating as I'd really like to get this uploaded. I can go back to the orig Beta tape but it's creased and fucked visually. But the sound and vision would be in synch.
Bearing in mind that this is a celebration of Gerald Scarfe's 50th birth year back in 1986, and he's renowned for what he does visually rather than aurally, I think we're going to have to live with this synch issue for now although it REALLY bugs me!
Bearing in mind you left that comment six months ago and I see you every week in person, it's just cropped up again as someone asked where the rest was.
Trouble is that the sync prob is only present AFTER uploading, so that one would have to time the delay and make the adjustments BEFORE uploading.
We may well remember to discuss this over a pint.....or not!!
please PLEASE upload the rest man I love the art and must see more! I will continue scouting the internet until I find it if I must!
