you really don't know what you're talking about I saw the movie, read the book and read the story in ancient greek. In ancient times, sparta was a city, a little country on its own.there were about 200 of them, and they all had an alliance. they fought against each other, but when the alliance was in danger, they fought together. Saying sparta is not greek is saying greek never existed. And the 300 were no scout group. they had to give Athens time to build up an army to defeat the persians.

Before the battle of thermopylae the spartans and the other greeks were divided in small city-states such as athens, sparta, thebes and many many more that are nowadays united under one nation,Greece,and for what u said about the romans u should learn that rome was an EMPIRE not a city-state. City states only existed in ancient greece and a few other So, u shouldnt compare the roman policy with the greek cause is a lot different although the romans adapted many things from ancient greeks...
