I love seeing a groomer with the love for dogs that this lady has.I have been grooming a little over 12yrs so ive seen good and bad groomers and most of them that have been grooming for 15yrs or more seem so burned out and thats when I think they need to find another job.A groomer has to love their job. I just wanna say THANK YOU for treating the dog the way you did and for all the tips on how to not hurt the dog beginners need to learn those. Great video
This woman needs to get her scissors sharpened!! They barely go through the coat on the back! Just because you hand scissor it a/o doesn't mean it looks good if you don't know what your doing!
I agree. As a 22+ year veteran groomer, I was so surprised how dull her scissors were! I hate to work like that, and as the video shows, the quality in the end suffers. Fine scissor work requires SHARP shears...
I am a groomer as well and I think this is a great video! I don't do any FULL sissored dogs at the moment but only because no one requests it in my area. I will try that "fan" technique next time I get one in though! Thanks for the video!
My dog used to remove her paw when i tried cutting her nails. I gave up. I thought I was hurtingher. This dog doesn´t seem to mind at all. Was I doing anything wrong? I didn´t think I was cutting too close to the nerve, base on how short her hind paws nails were.
Some dogs just don't like their nails cut. You aren't hurting her so long as you don't cut the vein. You just gotta be quick and firm otherwise the dog will get more stressed and it'll be harder.
What was all that hair inside the ears? I had never seen than and I have had cocker spaniels, french poodles, and the short haired breeds. Was that hair that grew there or went inside?
Hair grows inside the ear canal on some smaller dogs. I'd never heard about it before becoming a groomer, as I'd only ever had big dogs/dogs without ear hair.
Poodles and also Bichons usually have hair growing in their ear canals. However, there are always some individuals who does not have this hair growth, and they don't need to get their ears "plucked". I've plucked my own poodles' ears twice since I got her, and now she's three years old - it's almost nothing.
I am a learning groomer. How do you get a dog to behave to groom. I have had some that just stresses me right out. I have had one that I could not do at all. He bit he growled he was not a nice dog at all. I called the owner and told him to come get his dog. In this video your dog was very well behaved and gave you no problem. What do you do when they give you Problems
Dogs are smart, they can tell when you're newer to a certain environment than they are. Asserting yourself right from the moment you meet the dog will give you a head start. It's important to be confident and avoid getting frustrated as frustratiom from yourself fuels anxiety in the dog you're grooming. As soon as a lip is raised apply a muzzle, let them know you won't even let them go there! And be firm, if they start to pull away don't let them go until they stop. Hope this helps!
I agree with alot of what lozby11 said. The thing is, is most groomers go through this stage. You aren't fully confident (which is normal and safe when your learning). The more confident you are, the more confident the dog will be. But, some dogs don't like to be groomed due to lack of routine or bad grooming experiences. They wont all be angels. But, It will get better. Try not to stress.
What a great groomer you are. the dog was under no stress at all. Wish you were mine. I have a mischievious shih-tzu who would never stand as still as Gracie. great Job
Nicely hand scissored body. All the groomers I know use guard combs, and when I had to do a scissored body to pass my grooming academy final I was stressed for a week trying to get it right. Wish I would've found your video first. Thanks.
Thanks for your video. You are a warm caring groomer. Your place looks pretty clean, too. I worked as a bather (no experience) for a month. Her place was filthy. I no longer work there, thank goodness.
Hey, great video! I have a Bedlington terrier and groom him myself. I've had people ask me where I get my dog groomed so guess I do an okay job. I learned a few tricks from you today though! I now have a kerry blue terrier pup and will be grooming her myself as well. Thanks again!
wonderful descriptions of grooming! I also am a groomer and have found the "Oxyfresh" line of tooth products to be great! Just a suggestion. but if you bathe your dogs first, it is less wear and tear on your blades and scissors to work with clean hair! I only clip nails and remove ear hair before the bath, everything else (even demating) is done after. Beautiful groom, great video!
you should show how to scissor the topknot of the poodle. I went to Intergrom and bought Groomers Helper. Have to try it. Umm...great scissoring no scissor marks, yeah
Great video. did u see soso5555's video. onw word: TERRIBLE. she made so many scissor marks! you should watch it. also where did u get ur groomers helper? i would like to get one those are soo useful!
Come on, cut her some slack. If her clients/clientelle had problems with it, she wouldn't be in business. I am a groomer myself and was VERY surprised when I saw that video you were talking about, but I imagine she fixed it. Just saying, she didn't show the finished product.
Good job Lady.
