It was released in 2002, the time when Dave Grohl was part of QOTSA's, made Songs For The Deaf(cd) and toured with them. You can definitely hear a different sound through the whole cd and that's the drum.

Joey joined after the cd was already released...

Just find a live version of this song that Dave plays and you can hear the difference. I like Joey's drumming on the albums he has drummed on I just don't think he has the same kind of energy Dave has. I saw them perform No One Knows on the tonight show and he was totally botching it. Didn't sound anywhere near as good as the album version.

Joey makes me laugh so much. He is an AMAZING drummer but he is so in his own little world... the band sometimes can't keep up with his speed. Dave Grohl is more perfect for the Queens... but of course he has his own band. ha!

Yeah I've drummed for about 10 years now and I speed up like a beast when we're having a good show. If there's a song that starts chilled and goes mental at the end, I always speed up but I've also deliberatly stayed slower and I don't think it sounds as good!

Certain songs have a set tempo and sound bad if they go faster but First It Giveth isn't one of them! It sounds sweet sped up IMO.
