First the call was garbage. Goalie is way too far out of his crease and the dude who hit his was facing the other way and getting checked.

Second this is probably the right move by Playfair (anyone else find the name ironic here?) because you can't let a ref toss your guy under those circumstances without making a scene. It honestly does keep the ref honest for what he'll be whistling later. It's pretty clear the ref didn't see what went on, and I bet next time he'll be sure of his call.

I have one of Jim Playfair's NHL sticks (signed I believe), I won in a shoot out competition 20 years ago. I'll be popping it on Ebay in the next day or two. He only played 21 NHL games, so there can't be too many of these sticks around. If someone wants one of his sticks that aren't broken, this is a good chance.
