New vocalist is so much better than the old. I have no clue how anyone enjoyed that monotone shout/growl/whatever it was. This guy has so much more variety in his voice.
This is the song that got me into After The Burial, and I'm glad it did. They're on of the most influential, talented, and awesome bands in my music library - indeed, that I've heard. It's like you can tell they have visions. Other favorite songs of mine of theirs include: To Carry You Away, A Vicious Reforming of Feature, Your Troubles Will Cease and Fortune Will Smile Upon You, Cursing Akhenaten, and Promises Kept. But I wouldn't consider any songs from Rareform or In Dreams to be bad.
@JM94FL Onomatopoeia for the sound a guitar hooked to a modern distortion rig makes. In a broad sense, it refers to music relying upon modern distorted guitar riffing. Tesseract is a great djent band. If I'm not mistaken, Frederik Thordendal of Meshuggah first coined the word in reference of music that utilized the "djent" effect.
@JM94FL Yeah basically. Imagine you're describing the sound of the music with your friend. You'd say, "It goes like 'djent djent djent.'" Yes, "djent" music "goes like "djent djent djent.'"
@JM94FL Djent is actually a four note powerchord which is heavily palm muted. If you watch the Guitar Messenger interview with Misha Mansoor and Marc Okubo, Misha says that a good example of "Djent" is Aztexc Two-Step by Meshuggah from the None EP. Check it out :)
stop bitching about whether this is djent or not. bands ALWAYS get thrown into genres, and Djent (yes, the genre) is here to stay. People said thrash wasnt a genre first, and that it would die out after its popularity... did it happen? no. Its not very often something so fresh hits the metal community. Embrace it or fuck off.
Am I the only one who prefers Grant Luoma over Anthony Notormaso, at least just for vocals on this album? I just prefer more lows growls then high screams.
The thing you people don't get is this music was original before you threw a Djent label on it. Djent is becoming more mainstream, this becomes a societal norm and thus turns to shit. Leave it be
i used to do mushrooms, lsd, dxm to this shit like a mad man, before the re issue tho.. my opinion the original sounds much better, UGH! it was amazing, really takes me back in time listening to this, i saw them live when i was on a full gram of dxm, shit was intense as hell, i was shaking the whole time my body felt like shit but my mind was grooving so damn hard, it was beautiful imo. (p.s. dont do dxm) i think the faceless was there aswell lmao crazy shiet
i went to there show yesterday in houston and holyfuckkkkk they play all there good songs :3 there were badass and i love how in the intro everyone started leaving and i was laughing cause it was part of this song lol i felt all smart and shit
Told the Screamer tonight that this song has gotten me through more than any other song in the world. He told me that was the best compliment anybody could ever give him. I will forever love them
O.k so this is a question NOT relating to this particular song but, Iny your opinion is it wrong for there to be more djent bands? I recently read a comment that ATB ripped off "X" bands and that they're just another djent group. What's wrong, if anything, with there being more djent out there? Its like saying... OH! NO no.... only 3 pop stars at a time fellas.... sorry...next please. What's your opinion?
@SquareWand In my opinion, the more the merrier! i love djenty styled music! I really dont care how "mainstream" they are. I mean c'mon do people form a band just to stay underground? No, their goal is to make it big. So no djent bands are ripping off other bands it's just "X" bands played it before "Y" bands.
@bmthRAWR96 lol, i don't think we can even classify djent as a mainstream genre xD the most mainstream is prob meshugah and thats pretty abstract compared to metalcore haha
@bmthRAWR96 Djent is a retarded genre anyway, I think it's just pigeonholing a new breed of Progressive Metal into a niche just because they sound a bit like Meshuggah
@bmthRAWR96 and for one more completely worthless opinion that doesn't need to be expressed. i'm of the opinion that it doesn't really matter what the fuck stupid /core djent whatever the fuck ever tag somebody puts on your music. good bands, like this one, are awesome. shitty bands are not awesome. fuck genres. and the part about my worthless opinion isn't directed at bmthRAWR96, just a general observation about opinions.
@bmthRAWR96 not all bands mate, most hardcore local bands play refuse to go big, bcoz the local scene is there home scene, i know bands that have refused contracts with fairly big labels bcoz they love playing with there "brother bands" and playing to there fans(which turn up to every one of there gigs bcoz there all mates) for some bands, there goal isnt to make it big, it's to play shows, or even to make a song that at least one person will listen to. but your other point is valid! :)
@SquareWand I saw these guys live just yesterday and they were great live. So by all means let them take some credit. Afterall the best ideas are usually taken from other people. Although I don't quite feel they have taken everything from whatever bands claimed. They are an awesome band and chill on stage, always should mean that they aren't dicks to other bands or outright steal from em.
@SquareWand Djent was supposed to be new shit and awesome when it first appeared blahblahblah all that jazz, but now that everyone's doing it, it's not even cool anymore. It's old and boring and it all sounds the same and very unoriginal. That's my take on it.
@eazyb33zy Cool cool. I think there is some space for originality and I think that maybe in some way people that abandon this "genre" if it even is one, are taking it too far. Like the "djent" bands themselves don't even see it that way. I just think we have yet to hear some more developed djent or djent-ish metal. I have yet to hear some of the ideas that run through my own head being performed by bands
@eazyb33zy djent's old and boring? I'm not too familiar with djent style bands; you sound like you know quite a few of them, could you share them with me? I've only heard of After the Burial, Born of Osiris, Veil of Maya, and of course Meshuggah.
@eazyb33zy I was serious, stop being a pussy. Just help a brother out. Are you afraid to look bad on the internet? Grow the fuck up dude. Now I'm trolling. Or am I?
@SquareWand after the burial's style is completely unique, they fit in a genre and there are bands that have a similar tone but no bands does it like ATB. And this genre is some of the hardest stuff to play. it takes some talented musicians to pull these songs off let alone write them
@1FastfingersMcgee1 I completely agree ATB isn't the topic though. I'm talking about djent in general, it could be someone else's version of the best djent or djent-style band. I'm just asking, is there room for more of this style or do people honestly already perceive it as being over. Secondly, I do agree that it takes talent to make well written songs, which ATB are masterful at doing. I do however argue that ATB are not the "most" talented band ever, they are just way more tasteful at it
@SquareWand more djent style bands means the style will become more generic. It will turn into what post hardcore is now. I used to be original but everything starts to sound the same and nothing is special anymore.
@WillyHung1017 "Djent" is the onomatopoeia of a specific sound which is made with a distorted guitar. Typically to achieve this sound you need a particular form of hand technique. Its helpful to have an extended range guitar that can be tuned low and a distortion with a lot of mid range frequencies turned up in the E.Q. This is style of playing is accompanied with off-time, poly-rhythmic, counter harmonic, octave heavy and progressive music, etc. Mårten Hagström first coined the term in 1996
@WillyHung1017 As for what that term means now? 6 years after the current "wave" of "djent" bands have swept through progressive music, metal and the internet has sensationalized them. I have no clue what "Djent" means. I agree with what most people say about "genres" too, I think its a terrible way to categorize very talented bands that would be better off known by their own name and brand on the music. Having said that - It is COMPLETELY ignorant to pretend there was no "djent" movement
@SquareWand I honestly don't think that After The Burial is Djent, because as far as I am concerned, they were around long before that term came to use for the most part. I think the genre is being mispercieved alot. I would categorize ATB as Technical Metal. Really, the only thing that resembles Djent is off timed riffs, which, if you look at in a general perspective. There are ALOT of bands that don't play in a standard 4/4 time. I wouldn't categorize them as Djent.
@SquareWand Personally, I think that it's wrong to label every talented new band with a certain sound with a sub-genre, it totally discredits the bands originality. In my book there's only one metal genre...METAL.
i don't know i mean you can hear the toms alot better in this version but i think ill stick to the original 2008 album, its a little different but it sounds way cleaner.
can anybody explain me what u like at this music? im not trolling or anything just curious, soundtrack is nice but that "singing" is like someone with his balls crushed by a door or something, can anybody explain ? thanks
@runeskypex its about not crushing your head by the door because the head becomes narrowminded ....
lol
now serious ....what is the most wild uncontrolled sound of an emotion , a scream right? then thats what you get here, ...and because the vocals are just the background, they dont want you to focus on the singer,,,,(for that you have pop stars) here u are listening MUSICIANS playing MUSIC , this bands make lots of instrumental songs (without voice), but u imagine a song with no music?
@craksracing0com hmmm no but i imagine a song without vocals haha, or something less..violent the soundtrack is a masterpeice but vocals suck ( in my opinion ofcourse) . i think harmonising the soundstrack with normal singing, or just letting them be, with no vocalist, would be appreciated by more people and have more fans, but it's my opinion , thanks for trying to explain ^^ but death metal is 99% about violence and gore and goth, so crushing ur head by the door is pretty much the message
@runeskypex Just goes to show how closed minded you are and ignorant for making up a statistic like that as well as making the assumption that crushing your* head by a door is the message of these songs.
@CarllelRs just as i said its just my opinion, i listen to rock and punk and heaby metal (charlie parra del riego) wich is way better in my opinion, it is my right to have an opinion so shut your fucking mouth and stop trolling, if i dont like it than i dont like it, i never said u shouldent like it
lol i dont agree in the crushing head thing is the message, many band of death metal talk about very important subjects i would say the majoritiy of them....
pollution, lies of goverments, science, cosmos, genetic modification, war, corruption, phsicology, history, ....but yes there is a song that matchs your head crushing thing....(but this will make it 1% instead of 99% ) lol
@Mar13Tor new vocalist is one of the best live vocalists ive ever seen :P he destroys the recording live its rediculous. i dno what there old vocalist sounded like so no opinion as to a comparison aha, just sayin
I got their album only hearing this song. So I immediately came to the conclusion that they were a "Djent" band. Wrong was I to do that. Good song, okay album over all, not bad. Just never judging a book by it's cover again.
@bmthRAWR96 You'd actually have to prove that this video was being used for those purposes. Posting it online is more akin to boot-legging than anything in your disclaimer. The best defence you have is that you're putting it out here to show people what After The Burial is about, which could lead them to purchasing the album. But we all know that 90% of the people watching this won't buy it.
I can't help but jizz my pants after the first drop happens c:

craksracing0com 7 months ago
@craksracing0com hmmm no but i imagine a song without vocals haha, or something less..violent the soundtrack is a masterpeice but vocals suck ( in my opinion ofcourse) . i think harmonising the soundstrack with normal singing, or just letting them be, with no vocalist, would be appreciated by more people and have more fans, but it's my opinion , thanks for trying to explain ^^ but death metal is 99% about violence and gore and goth, so crushing ur head by the door is pretty much the message
runeskypex 7 months ago
@runeskypex Just goes to show how closed minded you are and ignorant for making up a statistic like that as well as making the assumption that crushing your* head by a door is the message of these songs.
CarllelRs 7 months ago
@CarllelRs just as i said its just my opinion, i listen to rock and punk and heaby metal (charlie parra del riego) wich is way better in my opinion, it is my right to have an opinion so shut your fucking mouth and stop trolling, if i dont like it than i dont like it, i never said u shouldent like it

lol i dont agree in the crushing head thing is the message, many band of death metal talk about very important subjects i would say the majoritiy of them....
pollution, lies of goverments, science, cosmos, genetic modification, war, corruption, phsicology, history, ....but yes there is a song that matchs your head crushing thing....(but this will make it 1% instead of 99% ) lol
and is a masterpiece!

Everyone is going to hate me for saying this, but the intro is somewhat similar to "I Do Not Hook Up" by Kelly Clarkson.

I got their album only hearing this song. So I immediately came to the conclusion that they were a "Djent" band. Wrong was I to do that. Good song, okay album over all, not bad. Just never judging a book by it's cover again.

what happened to the other ones? if they got dmca'd i don't think this one will last long :[

@Viper2026 I think it was because he didn't have any copyright information on the video and that's why it got removed.

@bmthRAWR96 fair play man :D
RE4p3R66 10 months ago
@bmthRAWR96 You'd actually have to prove that this video was being used for those purposes. Posting it online is more akin to boot-legging than anything in your disclaimer. The best defence you have is that you're putting it out here to show people what After The Burial is about, which could lead them to purchasing the album. But we all know that 90% of the people watching this won't buy it.
