  • great album

  • Can we maybe ignore the troll? I mean he was so OBVIOUS about it too. and he spelled fans with a Z. why do you care what someone like that thinks?

  • "we are not alone" Fucking jizzworthy

  • I some times get a chill when this.... oh yeah! wait for it..........mystic rhythm transport my mind and spirt through a dream that more like a de ja vu or some shit like that.

  • This entire album is a virtual wellspring of sonic splendor.

  • Late 80s Rush is MASSIVELY underrated. Power Windows and Hold Your Fire are masterpieces.

  • @psyoptica amen

  • @psyoptica

Haven't listened to Hold Your Fire yet but, IMO, Rush hit a 5 album streak with Permanent Waves, Moving Pictures, Signals, Grace Under Pressure, and Power Windows. Never seen so many consecutively fantastic albums released by a single band.

  • @FeelingFreshSon To me it's more like a 10 album streak: 2112, A Farewell To Kings, Hemispheres, Permanent Waves, Moving Pictures, Signals, Grace Under Pressure, Power Windows, Hold Your Fire

Of course, there's still great material on either side.

  • thank you.......... great band

  • First of all, you listen to this and its like you've got a brand new stereo. I feel like the RCA dog lookin' in the horn of the turntable in disbelief at the sounds hear; then, I notice that they do capture the sound of a mystic rhythm with that fast heartbeat, warm synth simmer and deep/bright bursts of percussion with a little of the Orient thrown in. As I'm now 35, I appreciate being in a different mindset, this is it.

  • Rush is a genre in itself, they are a phenominal band and always will be.

  • look at that artwork.

    geydee lee indeed.

  • @BetterTasteThanU Ok big shot lets us all know what great bands your into then, if your brave enough. Hehe

  • ALL Rush music is good. I hate people saying they died after Signals. Listen to The Body Electric from Grace Under Pressure. Listen to this song. Listen to Lock and Key from Hold Your Fire. Listen to Presto from Presto. Listen to Dreamline from Roll the Bones. Listen to Leave That Thing Alone from Counterparts. Listen to Driven from Test For Echo. Listen to Nocturne from Vapor Trails. Listen to Faithless from Snakes and Arrows. Then try to convince me that Rush died after Signals.
  • turn the bass up on all rush's stuff from this era and it sounds like a different tune...lol

  • One of my favorite Rush songs for the past ten years.

  • never heard anything from these fairies than didnt nauseate me. this is a good example.

rush fans are tin eared morons.

  • @BetterTasteThanU /watch?v=XVCtkzIXYzQ

No, but in all seriousness, why the Hell would you go out of your way to bash a band such as going on a song video of theirs and posting crap about them? You don't like Rush? Fine, so be it, but don't flaunt your hate in front of a fanbase of millions of people around the world. Nobody asked you your opinion, and frankly, nobody cares. It's annoying.

    Jesus...

    Anyhoo, love this song. ^_^

  • @FoxeyHound because they play rush in rotation on some web radio I listen to, and. without fail, when something they've done comes on, I feel the need to vomit.

They do suck, and the world is full of folk with really bad taste in EVERYTHING, not just these hacks.

    have a nice day

  • @BetterTasteThanU Thanks for checking in. Now go find some other song you don't like and leave a comment there.

  • @BetterTasteThanU you happen to suck major donkey balls...

    Good day she-male :)

  • @BetterTasteThanU You're a fucking moron cocksucker pea-brained piece of shit and that's about it. That's all folks!!!

  • @b16bubu yes, and you prove that rush fanz are infantile imbeciles with the musical sophistication of a cockroach. Thanks for proving my point!

  • @BetterTasteThanU

Your name reminds me of a Rolling Stones lyric. "Please allow me to introduce myself, i'm a man of wealth and taste." if this is true, then i'm going to guess you're more into hard rock, blues rock perhaps, british invasion and maybe some early heavy metal, don't blame you, i'm about the same way but that doesn't mean i have better taste, i have different taste....but i enjoy Rush sometimes, never been the type to pick a handful of genres and only listen to those genres.

  • @BetterTasteThanU

I enjoy exploring, theres funk stuff i like, jazz stuff, (mostly jazz rock.) early blues like Robert Johnson, truly a brilliant man and player, Rap sometimes, the sophisticated kind, not the slappin'-hoes-all-fucking-day kind, I even like Prog Rock here and there, but let me tell you..Prog Rock is like Avant-Garde, it's not for everyone, i enjoy both for having a similar concept, when listening to something like Rush i'd like to think i'm listening to the music of tomorrow,

  • 2 people are out of rythm...

  • this is rush at there peak!!

  • one of my favourite songs of theirs, along there are many lol

  • People tend to overlook Rush's music during the 80's; I can understand peoples frustration with them becoming more synth oriented, but c'mon, it was the 80's, that was the hip style, ya know? Synths were everything back then.

All of Rush's stuff, from Finding My Way from 1974 to BU2B in 2011, are amazing.

  • @FoxeyHound I disagree. In fact in 1986 HEAVY METAL was THE most popular genre of music. I guess it proves that synths didn't rule the 80s.

  • @Jamcad01 Most pop/rock music incorperated synths in the 80's, even heavy metal bands like Iron Maiden with 'caught somewhere in time'.

  • @ddrumdude They used guitar synths as did Judas Priest.

  • @nkmcfrln they're still synths then.

  • @ddrumdude So what Eddie Van Halen and Geddy Lee were doing was no different to what Priest and Maidens' dual lead guitarists were doing on one album apiece. Guitar synths were a different story: They didn't take off, they weren't keyboards and didn't sound the same. Alex had one of the original Roland guitar synths. I'm not sure if he used it beyond Hemispheres. A few bands did incredibly good things with Rolands' guitar synths; King Crimson and Sigue Sigue Sputnik.

  • @nkmcfrln whatever, basically, in the 80's a lot of bands were using more modern technology to add to music. That was basically my point.

  • @Jamcad01 You're right. Metallica broke out in 1986 with MOP and I got to see them. Slayer, Beastie Boys, Megadeth, The Cult and then Guns N' Roses. The 80's were starting to crawl out of some gaylords. Rush made me sick at this point. I'm listening to this now and it's making me sick. From Looking down from Olympus on splintered Hemispheres to this? Rush could do no wrong up until then. Rush at their peak some little dork say's. lol

  • @nkmcfrln it's your own opinion. Just because some people have ones that are different than you, doesn't mean they are wrong :S

  • @nkmcfrln I tend to like Rush's 70s Prog Metal era better but I still like their synth era. It's okay to experiment and do different things. Seriously I don't understand why everyone has to stick to one brand of music for ever? They have freedom and should be allowed to do whatever they want.

  • They know we are not alone.

They know the power each human has capable

    Matrix

  • One of the best songs from Rush

  • awesome song, seems to make my drift into a day dream every time.

this was a theme song for NBC's 1986 tv show.. no clue other than someone was a Rush fan of why they picked this song, good taste though.

  • GREAT SONG!!! WHY DIDN'T THEY PLAY THAT IN THE BRAZILIAN TOUR? IT MAKES TO REMEMBER ALIENS 2!!!

  • Simply...Musical Genius! Not just great lyrics and music for the ear...but music for the soul.

  • undescribable, just no other music genre or band or group can ever be as great and engeniuosly deep as them.

  • one son of a bitch no like this music

  • @bielgabrielfelicio now two sobs no like this video

  • @bielgabrielfelicio Count me as a S.O.B.! Terry Brown had a brain in his head and left Rush after Signals. He refused to record Digital Man at first. Listen to the synth sound at the beginning of this track along with the bass sound and guitar sound and take it from there. This isn't an Oberheim or a Moog or a Rickenbacker 4001 or a Slingerland kit. Up until Hemispheres Rush was concerned with being Rush and pushing that to the limit with each album up until Hemispheres.

  • @nkmcfrln Dear Idiot.

wiki - During the tour supporting their previous album, Signals, the members of Rush began by meeting with producer Terry Brown in Miami, calmly informing him that they wanted to move on. They'd become increasingly unhappy with the sound of the Signals album, and they were also keen to see how they would work with someone other than Brown.

Terry Brown didn't leave RUSH. They left him behind.

  • @GregQzag Dear Dork: Rush was worth listening to up until Signals. Is that you on the album cover of Power Windows?

  • @bielgabrielfelicio 2 apparently.

  • @bielgabrielfelicio one no just piss me off, but two,HAHA, two. they better run

  • Things I know, Things I wonder, Things I've should have said. My past is the past and the future is here! Where are the lights of life going to take me!

  • GordonYYZ, you are the BEST :D

  • This band was light years ahead of their time and touched on vital topics that all

"living" people should be interested in.

"Let the dead bury the dead".

  • CBS News used the opening of this in Mid 80's

  • from the first moment i saw this video on MTV I was blown away with how it went above and beyond the subject matter of everyday music offerings, there's more to this life than what we see.

  • I love how he moves the mic with his nose while he plays both base and, keyboard!

  • my first Rush LP, bought this at a local shop called "Orbit", got it for 50 cents, but it remains one of my favorite rush albums :)

  • 1 person is alone.

  • Rush has so much different songs and they make every song special and good. ive been playing drums since ive been 3 year old. and cant understand how Neil peart can do that work.

  • Everybody shut up about the one dislike. He probably has never listened to the song! :D

  • I am a huge RUSH Fan and this has got to be one of the best albums they ever recorded. Not a big fan of Hold your fire and Presto but this Album was awesome.

  • This song is on Hold Your Fire and was the best track on it. Neil Peart's drum tracks on this are just incredible. Don't think anyone understands how difficult his drum work is. That's why we call him, "The Professor." Awesome band

  • @dougreadmond This song is on "Power Windows" album!

  • Can't believe a douche disliked this

  • the more we think we know about....greater the unknown. POW

  • Listening to this at a winter night. The melody really gets into you

  • notice, he's got his back turned on the evil tv.

  • was this the them music for a news show called West 57th back in the late 80's?

  • @tulllguy Could have been. I know it was the theme music for a program called 1986. It was a news program with Connie Chung discussing events over the course of that year.

  • pure awesomeness

  • That was a pretty cool effect with the picture flashing in when the keyboards started.

  • best rush song ever

  • This song gives me chills

  • one of the best songs with rush love it

  • if circumstances allow me..I will go Jacobs Ladder,In The End,Witchhunt,Test for Echo

  • This album had 3 tunes on the radio..Mystic Rythms was a leadin to a 20/20 type show..It was the #1 concert of the year...It may have been their 3rd greatest album behind 2112 and Moving Pictures...I saw 3 shows that year on the tour..Most amazing thing I have ever seen....Think about it..Big Money,Manhatton Project,Marathon,Mystic Rythms..This may have been their greatest album as far as popularity

  • like this if you r listening too this in 1985

  • @therushfan98 Dumbass..Rush fan right?...Time Signatures...Maybe that is over your head

  • Saw them some years ago at Red Rocks, Denver with a lightning storm in the background....absolute perfection. Thanks, Geddy, Alex, and Neil.

  • the first concert i ever attended was rush with blue oyster cult opening....my dad took me...it was power windows tour...and i became a musician later...and no matter where my music direction goes...i carry rush near to my heart...and i will forever

  • Man, this song would have been PERFECT for "Miami Vice" (the original, that is)...I could totally picture Crockett and Tubbs driving to a stakeout during a sunset while this song is playing!

  • @CesMan83 Man, you took the words out of my mouth, I feel exactly the same way in those same words. I worte a song about Neil Peart and Rush "From the Spiral stair, unto the range of light, his golden words gave me a second sight."

  • Last Great Rush Album ever

  • They re great in live concert no doubt .........

  • Last good album Rush put out I had just finished Boot camp in 1985 .Lots of memories.

  • @Trollpatrol87 I was thinking the same thing.

  • Been having this song in my head for days now...Hurray to UTube for giving me access to the bestes band ever......

  • It was a leadin in to a sad 20/20 rip off...to bad...But hey..Cleveland next year..Rolling Stone can't keep them out anymore as quoted..I will travel from Vt to watch them go in with the fans that have waited for that day..I can't wait...They are so gifted..Thanks Rush

  • The most underrated song of the '80s.

  • If I knew I was going to be put on a deserted island and had ONE choice for music, I'd take the entire collection of Rush with me cuz that's all I'd need...

  • Wow, this really takes me back to the mid-80s.

  • 1 person doesnt know about the greater unknown

  • Comment removed

  • 1 retarded asshole must DIE.

  • I needed to hear this as a reminder to myself on how impressed I was getting with each new bold direction that Rush were moving in.

  • I bought it when it came out and liked it. Although we wished it was more like the 70s stuff. Looking back, this is one of their best albums, IMHO. I'm kinda glad Geddy is proud of this one.

  • "The more we think we know about, the greater the unknown"

where else can you find deep lyrics like this?

  • @fuckhead9999999 tool...thats where

  • In power windows they tended to use a lot of synthesizer.

  • RUSH---"Mystic Rhythms"

  • This will be played at my funeral!

    Rush greatest band ever

  • @ewq14 ... Yes they are. Rush is the soundtrack of my life and I would not be who I am without them and the inspiring ideals they have given to me

  • @ewq14 - if circumstances allow me a say in the matter:

    1) Subdivisions

    2) Limelight

    3) Vapor Trails

Lots of magnificent songs, including the one posted, but these have the most personal meaning for me

  • @ewq14 That's funny, I thought I was the only one who wanted a Rush song played at my funeral. For me, it's la villa strangiato

  • @dakavz I'm gonna screw my friends over and have the Cygnus X-1 Duology played at mine.

  • Long live Rush

  • Thanks God, for Geddy Lee...

  • @ricardopetrinni Amen!

  • their music was ahead of their time

  • 3:32, that backwards guitar suction cup sound is ridiculously trippy. Bas sthumping in the background too. And a positively mystic message.

  • 3:32, that backwards guitar suction cup sound is ridiculously trippy.

  • the best love them 4 ever the best

  • Seriously and sadly underrated track by the most brilliant Canadian band ever

  • Not a big fan of 80s Rush, but this song rules.

  • rushes tribal groove...greatest thing that came from rush on the 80's

  • Comment removed

  • Too bad I live in Texas. We don't have the Northern Lights here, and I would really love to see them while listening to this song...

  • @OfficialWolfFang I feel ya. Fla. here, no northern lights, but would be cool. Gotta buy some cold weather clothing and a place ticket to alaska or canada

  • I freaking love this song.

  • I love this song, simply.

  • Most beautiful music ever!

Every night before I sleep have to listen(and when awake Distant Early Warning or the big money!

  • @ewq14 OMG! SAME THING FOR ME! I always listen to to Mystic Rhythms before sleep, and during the day I slap on my Moving Pictures =) HIGH FIVE!!! =D

  • This song takes me on a journey. Even if I'm listening in public, I have a moment when listening to the chorus

  • every time i would hear this, i feel mezmerized.

  • The musicianship and technical perfection of Rush is only equalled, in my opinion, by Jethro Tull. What a double bill that would be! Especially if it was JT back in their prime, early 1970's.

  • @london2z Sorry but thats offensive to put Jethro Tull in the same room as great a group like Rush.

  • @ViciousAlienKlown ? What's wrong with Jethro Tull? They actually had Rush on tour with them...?

  • phenominal

  • I saw the first show on the power windows tour.It was Portland Maine 1986 I believe,I was a senior in high school. They had a few mistakes on stage and asked us to pardon them because it was so early in the tour.I always figure since maine was so close to canada that is why they started there and worked there way west.

The show was incredible,I could see the spit coming from geddy lee.I remember he had a little figure attached to his keyboard.Don't remember what it was.

  • Please great Rush fans go to google and tip: The Rush Hall of Fame Campaign and leave your signature that will be sent to the Rock roll hall of fame. We now the absurd is the greatest band ever don´t be at! Thank you!

    Pass along to other videos!

  • @ewq14 fuk the hall of fame...rush deserves to have a hall of fame named for them...they dont need the hall and the morons who vote

  • i was loooking at the old cover of power windows, and the guy on the front winked at me...
