  • how long does the battery last on it?

  • @SevenNationArmy69 Six to eight months, in my experience.

  • got mine but the backlight button isn't functioning. when i press the lower right button everything goes to default setting. would you know what the problem could be???

  • @busbang I'm not sure. Have you tried contacting Suunto?

  • Thanks for the review!

  • @dsilfver Thanks--glad you liked it.

  • I have small wrists... really small ones (index + thumb can go arount wrist) Is this watch to big for me? Anyone has any alternatives? Great video!

  • @Roelieee Hard to say. It measures 48mm across the case, if that helps you picture it. All of the ABC watches (altimeter/barometer/compass) I've seen are pretty big, so I can't recommend an alternative. Anyone else have ideas?

  • Is the auto alt/barometer switch any good?

  • @spergAdam It is pretty good. As soon as you stop climbing or descending it switches to barometer. Of course, if you're changing altitude while the weather is changing it won't be able to tell but neither will any watch. It does ask you periodically to set a reference to keep it accurate, which I think is a nice feature.

  • @spergAdam I think it is. See my comment to Meketrash below.

  • can´t it show the temprature??

  • @SuneEeg Yes, see 1:35 in the video.

  • How relieble is the automatic mode?

  • @Meketrash It does a good job. It will ask you if you want to set a reference if you keep it in automatic mode for more than a day or so, which helps keep it accurate. My experience has been that it's pretty accurate.

  • Great watch.

  • Excellent review, I will definitely be buying one now. Thanks!

  • Suunto Core is great and amazing watch, however If you wish to change to Suunto Elementum or just to have another Gem on your wrist, read this otherwise have a good day and sorry that I bothered you :)

I sell my Suunto Elementum Terra in Netherlands and able to ship it easily to Worldwide! Be in touch if interested.

    email:

    iphonesuomi@yahoo.com

  • Also I have used this watch in afghanistan an it works just fine in the sunlight I had no problems with it al all

  • what about the sunsut and sunrise function and weather alert?

  • @cplbaltzer1 Did I forget to mention those? What would you like to know?

  • @nikudes I just don't know exactly how the weather alert works I need to go over the manual again

  • @cplbaltzer1 You turn it on in the "alti-baro" menu. When on, it works in the Barometer mode. If the pressure drops suddenly, the storm alarm will sound.

  • I was wondering which band you liked better?

  • @Forrestman69 I like the brown band that I got for it. You can see it in the follow up video to this one (link in Video Responses). It has "New Band and Log Function" in the title.

  • i have had a similar suunto core with a dark screen and have little problems with it. i personally like the dark screen, but if you have trouble reading it, then maybe you should have bought the version with the light face. they have many models, pick the one you need. but please don't blame the company, or the watch, for you making the wrong choice.

  • i've read that battery life is not that great. considering this is a watch marketed to outdoors people and military types. I personally can't see the point, when casio g-shock/pathfinders offer so much more.

  • for a watch that is suppose to be worn outdoors the display is absolute unreadable in sunlight. people please do not buy this you will have fun with it in the office but outdoors forget it completely!!! buy the casio pathfinder. the display of the casio is a charm and readable very clearly even in the brightest sunlight. besides it's 150-200 bucks cheaper. how can someone make a display like that??? a bum watch.

  • My experience has been that, while the display is not as clear as the Casio, it only becomes difficult to read in dim light.

  • @majorpainful But Casios suck.

  • I have this watch since 14 month and since 3 month it is making problems. So before buying one go to suunto forum and check for suunto core problems.

Beside the problems I had with the watch I was not very satisfied with the weak display. You can't see much in sunlight or shadow! And last not least I like the design a lot.

  • @chhug Sorry to hear you've been having troubles with it.

  • I think protrek is much better. Protreks have much more functions and are very very tough. The military uses them along with gshocks. Protreks have a titanium case which makes them really light and strong.

  • BUYING ONE RIGHT NOW lol

  • thanks for the tutorial.just got one today.its help

  • Just got one today! Thank you for the video, it was a lots of help!

  • hi

    tnx for the video.

can you tell me please what is the size of the watch?

also i wondering should i buy this or the

    casio prg-110t-7vdr ?

  • Nice video nikudes. I just ordered one of those. Thanks for the info. Seems to be a really cool watch. Can't wait until mine gets here!

    cblue218

  • Thanks. Hope you like it!

  • @cblue218

same i cant wait till mine comes!!!!

  • Can you set the temperature reading to degrees Celcius too, instead of Fahrenheit?

  • Definitely. All the units are adjustable between metric and imperial systems.

  • Hey Nik - the turning bezel and the two white notches are for diving and underwater navigation. At least, on most dive compasses, those two notches are used to line up the needle to ensure proper course underwater. It appears they were going for much the same thing here, except I don't see a moving needle display, so it doesn't make much sense.

  • There is a moving needle.

There's an indicator moving around the edge of the display, indicating north.

  • @Truthaboutwatches-

hm.... I use the notches for when I have the compass bearing at night for tracking, then i dont have to keep using the damn backlight. the pips are lumed. the moving "needle" is on the outermost edge of the screen. the negative display does not to good of a job of showing it off....

  • great video...got my suunto core today...

  • Hello, this is a very nice review. Thank you. Question, I just ordered mine and should be arriving anytime soon. Have you had many problems that have been reported by the other users, such as system hangs, blank screen, and other malfunctions? Mine should be the latest batch which hopefully has the latest hardware and firmware upgraded, but I'm just a bit anxious. Thanks Nikudes!

  • The only issue I've had is that the low battery indicator doesn't seem to work consistently. When the battery dies the screen goes blank. Then I just replace the battery and it's good to go again. Other than that it's worked very well. Batteries tend to only last 7-8 months so keep an extra on hand. Hope you enjoy your new watch.

  • Meant to say "one thing" damn itouch qwerty

  • One this is the pathfinder 1500 does all that and more not to mention it's solar powered so the battery lasts forever.

But that does have a nice look

  • Just the kind of review I was looking for. Very informative. Thanks nikudes.

  • Hi! I´m considering to buy one. I heard that there have been many problems with Core (it eats batteries, the screen turn blank etc.). Have you noticed some problems with your watch? Are my concerns unnecessary? Thank you for your reply. Best regards, Mike from Scandinavia

  • Hi Mike, I've replaced the battery twice. They've lasted 7-8 months. Not long when compared to other watches whose batteries last two years. Then again you can replace the batteries yourself so, if you have an extra on hand, you have zero down time. I've noticed that the low battery indicator hasn't worked consistently though. It turned on briefly when the battery was weak but didn't stay on. Then a couple of weeks later then screen went blank without warning and the battery was dead.

  • Keeping a spare battery on hand seems like an acceptable solution. It might even be preferable to having to take the watch somewhere to get the battery replaced.

  • just wanted to aks, im getting a core soon just deciding between this verson and the regular black. just wanted to know if you feel yours performs well enough in low light conditions ie the screen and number/display contrast? thanks

  • The display looks great in bright sun but it's not brilliant in low light. It's OK. If that's a big factor, you may want to look at another style. Or if you can find a store in your area that stocks them, try to look at it in person. That might be your best bet.

  • hi need help should i get sunto core or casio 1500t what the next model up from core? thanks

  • if you want solar powered and radio controlled get the casio, if you want a more accurate sensor get the Core.

  • Hi. Just bought this watch recently and i was wondering why the backlight seems to flicker when i turn it on at night when it is on compass mode. Does yours too? thanks

  • Yeah, mine does that too. I think what's happening there is that the compass and backlight are both energy intensive functions. When both are running together the watch might have trouble keeping up with the power demand. That's my guess.

  • i see. i think your guess makes perfect sense, thanks a lot. It really is a pretty good watch btw. All the functions seems to be so great and accurate. Nice Vid!

  • Thanks for the feedback. Hope you enjoy the watch.

  • nice review!

i have a question about the countdown timer.

does it take long to programm it? (for example set it on 5min)

what does the timer do when it reaches 0? does it beep and/or count up after reaching zero?

    example for what I mean:

    -5min --> 0min --> counts up

    gruß

  • It doesn't take long to program. You program it in the menu mode, which is quick and intuitive. The countdown timer is always available on the main subscreen. It will countdown from the current programmed time (like 5 min). When it reaches zero, it beeps (a different beep from the alarm) and resets to the programmed time but does not count up. It can be started and stopped like a stopwatch. The max programmable time is 99 minutes.

  • thank you for answering me

unfortunately then its not what i am searching for :(

  • Hello! I am currently considering between Suunto Core and Casio PRW-1500.

I have heard couple of bad comments about Suunto's reliability, about short battery life, etc.

Which one would you, as owner of both Suunto and Casio watches recommend?

  • I don't have a PRW-1500 but my Pathfinder is similar. I haven't had any reliability issues with the Suunto. It does seem to go through batteries quickly though. I've replaced two and each has lasted 7-8 months. I wear the Suunto all of the time. It does everything and I like the menu-driven interface. It means you don't have to remember which button does what. The display also shows you which buttons are active for a given screen. I've enjoyed the Suunto quite a bit.

  • when you replace the battery does it save all the old existing stuff? like time and everything you've tracked? or does it all have to be reseted

  • It seems to save them. I replaced my battery recently and the logbook still has year-old logs in it.

  • One more thing about the battery. You can replace it yourself and the battery (CR 2032) is easy to find, so it's not that big of a deal. If you carry a spare, you'll never be caught off guard.

  • this watch looks amazing... can anyone recommend it for mountain biking excursions through europe?

  • also, I bought a black strap for it, I liked the orange but black looks much better!

  • I have this watch, had it over a year, wear it all the time. It is brilliant, a good size and weight, geboalvirus or whatever his name is has not got a clue. It is great, no probs at all. Great watch!

  • I'm looking to getting one of these. Thanks for taking the time to make and upload the video. Hope you enjoy the watch.

  • Thanks for the note. Glad you liked it. I am enjoying it--wear it all the time.

  • Nice watch.

But do they make all those models of plastic?

Is it reliable? I mean if i make some rock climbing i`ll probably fall and scratch it.

Stell case and saphire\mineral glass would diminish harm to watch.

Do Suunto make tough sturdy watch?

  • I can't really comment as I haven't done anything too rough with it. If you check their site, they it has a mineral crystal. I'm not sure how tough that is.

  • maybe it is just the video, but the screen looks a bit difficult to read.

  • It's both the video and the screen. It's a little tough to read in dim light. But check out my video response. It's newer and better quality. You'll be able to see the screen better.

  • do not buy this watch. go for something like a vector or x-lander that won't shit out on you in a month.

  • good vid, well done. I'm upgrading to one of these from a Suunto Vector - regarding battery life, 8-12 months is about average. Using the compass is a heavy drain on power so using this alot will obviously reduce batterly life

  • ohh shit buy polar...

suunto is perhaps a better swatch :P

i can't nothing read, because of poor display

    cya

  • What is the US retail $?

  • hi, nikudes, I also interested in this Watch , But, I would like to know the length of the StopWatch Function , THX

  • It will time events to just under 100 hours (99:59:59). The first hour it will time with 1/10th of a second accuracy. After that it will time events with 1 second accuracy.

  • the screen looks quite dim, is that due to the camera or is it really that dim to the eye?

  • The way it looks in the first ten seconds or so is pretty accurate. After that it looks a little dimmer than it does in reality.

  • hello

ive got a suunto core bougt it for some months agp but it look likes the battery is getting empty how long should the battery last?

  • Sounds like we had a similar experience. Mine lasted about 8 months.

  • i think i had mine in 3 maybe 4 is that normal u think

  • yep. depends on usage mostly

  • Using the compass and the backlight seem to use the most amount of energy.

  • So what? Isnt it just to change the battery?

  • Is it me or is it hard to hear his voice with the background music? Any chance of killing that?

  • Sorry my bad....I didn't realise my background music was from another window :p.

    Good review!!

  • Thanks for all the comments. I'm glad the video's been helpful. I recently replaced the orange strap with a brown one and I think it looks a lot better.

  • well done. your video is extremely helpfull as i couldnt find similar videos on the net. I had this watch on my mind for about 2 weeks. Eventually i bought it about 30 minutes after i saw your videos... It is a big watch but somehow fits nicely on small wrists as well. And the face its not that dim looking for those who ask. Its just perfect and the backlight works perfectly, not underpowered neither extreme

  • This is a very good review of a very good watch. I got the same watch for half a year now and I am very satisfied with it. No problems at all. It is a rather big watch, very professional looking, especially if you change the band with a black leather one.

Used it during outdoor weekends through thick bush, and no scratches at all! Brightness is adjustable to a satisfying level, stormalarm works good in all modes, backlight is fine, you can change the battery yourself. Great watch!

  • Nice explanation, great vid. I almost dropped the cash on one of these but am hesitant on the super dark appearing face. Is it really that dim looking? in dark movie theater does the backlight work decent.? Thanks.

  • Thanks. The quality of my video makes it look a little worse than it actually is. When you're outside in sun the screen is actually really easy to read. Inside in dim light it's more difficult. In total darkness backlight works pretty well.

  • I have heard about serious battery, functionality, and reliability problems. But I have a feeling if i get one nothing will happen lol. I really want one just afraid it will be too large, do you know of any stores in Las Vegas that sell them? Or is offline your best bet?

  • Make sure you get one with a serial number which begins with the number 8. The first digit is the year it was made (thus 8 = 2008) and the next two digits the week of that year. The numerous issues with the Core almsot all relate to models made in 07 thus those watches with a s/n which begins with 7.

I replace my tried and trusted Vector with a Black/Orange Core and it is awesome - so long as you replace the horrid orange strap!

  • Thanks for putting this up

  • No worries... My pleasure.

  • So is the Suunto Core a HUGE watch, I hope it is not, I have kinda small wrists I guess.... I am looking to wear this watch all the time so I do not want to it to look retarded. It has everything I am looking for, pricey, but worth it if it fits me and works well. I have read SO many horrid things about this watch, have you had any problems?

BTW I have a TAG Heuer Formula 1, so if you could compare the size to that it would be awesome, thanks much.

    Any same sized coins?

    Thanks much.

  • I don't know how big the TAG is but the Suunto case measures 49mm from edge to edge. What sort of problems have you read about? I haven't had any issues in day-to-day use. I haven't done serious outdoor work with it, so I can't comment on how tough it is.

  • If it isn't atomic, how accurate is it?

  • I haven't tracked it (and there's no spec in the manual) but most quartz digital watches are accurate to a few seconds a month. You could try emailing Suunto and asking. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful.

  • Is the Suunto Core atomic? I like that feature on watches and was wondering.

  • It's not atomic...

  • Thanks for the review. It's always nice to get a good look at something like this beforehand especially considering the price.

  • Good Job - perfect presentation. But: I see suunto as somenone who provides cutting edge sportwatches including all kind of functions and a guy presenting this on youtube. in spite of this all i can see is a dark suunto core screen! it is so funny to me - long words about invisible advantages. this watch should first of all come with a readable screen. otherwise 10 seconds presentation would have been enough. better take the light green one...

  • on the site there is a movie

  • good i just buy the sunnto core steel steel

    great guide

  • I'm not clear about the compass feature. Does it have a feature that automatically shows you N, E, S, W? Or do you have to do it the traditional method? I know it can lock a direction but does it still show you if you're pointed East for example?

  • It does both. There's an LCD that moves around the face like a traditional needle, always pointing north. It also shows you your compass heading in degrees, as you saw in the video. You can also set the sub-screen in compass mode to show cardinal directions, i.e. N, S, SW, etc.

  • thanks for the info. let me ask you another question, how accurate is the storm warning on it (from personal experience)? does it work fairly often or what? I'm really curious before I buy this watch.

  • I'm not sure. I haven't used that feature. The rest of the watch is pretty accurate though, so I'm assuming that is accurate too but I don't think there's anyway to set how much of a drop in pressure will set off the alarm.

  • hi i have just got this watch and i think it is great, i have bought for use in the military because it has a dark screen that doesn't give off much light in the dark. it can be tricky to see it during the day but is still highly usable. i also bought a black strap to make it less obvious. thanks for the vid it is a good idea.

  • best video ever about suunto core meny thx

  • best video ever about suunto core meny thx

  • nice vid - i just brought the stainless steel bling bling version - your user guide rocked...

  • Glad you guys liked it. Thanks for the feedback.

  • Thanks!

    nice review

  • good job

  • thanx 4 video, I needed one! I wish You would show the watch on the wrist - to see how big it is, (tape measure or some kind a size equiv.)

  • You're welcome. Glad it came in handy. Good idea about having a size reference. I'll do that in the future. This watch happens to be 49mm across the case and 35mm across the crystal.
