  • Great job on this video. I'd never fathomed hearing a version by G.P. & U.G.

I always loved their sound as a kid spread through their small handful of hits so now once again I'll re~investigate some artist from my youth. I doubt he'll pay as big dividends as when I cracked the case of this chap named Edwin Starr but I bet their is some great listening. Thanks. (Btw, I still do give Cher's take the nod... and this other cat named Sam kills it!)

  • this is the song my father played to me when my mother and him was getting a divorced, what a guy . im glad the feckers dead now

  • I cant believe his voice absolutely amazing whatever he sings!

  • The story of this song, is just what happened to me. It is heartbreaking, especially since my kids dont have time for me. Thats the bad thing. The good is, I still like this song. Maybe someday, I'll send my kids a copy of this song.

  • I have allways liked this song, even thow it's hardly played in decades. But it is also sad and reflects in my life as well. Others have done it, but this version to me is the best. Thanks guys, It breing back good and bad memories but those were the good old days.

  • God this version makes me cry, so much better than Cher's, some many men got screwed in this era, slways make the man like the bad one. No one can sing like Gary Puckett, his voice has always stirred me soul and it is a major part of my growing up in the 60's. Compared to the music of nowadays I'll take Gary Pucket over any of the artists today. Wish I could go back to the 60's and feel all those experiences again. I love you Gary Puckett!!

  • @prettypeggy98 Sounds like Cher to me.

  • ahaha imagine a father actually giving his kids this record to listen to as the parents near the final stages of their divorce

  • He was soo hot and the band members oooh anyone got a recent pic of him?

  • What a powerful song. The message is so touching. And I like how when Gary sings, he makes it really seem like his own story coming out in the song.

  • i had never heard this song before until about a month ago. it reminds me of when my parents got divorced and how cruel my mother was to my dad. he basically got screwed and my mother also forbid me from seeing him until i was 12. i sent a link for this to my dad and he said it made him cry because he tried to be the best dad he could until my mother f***** it up.

  • I like it, an album version of Cher's 1967 hit. I have it on an album of various artists called " Super Hits Vol 1" or Vol 2, one of them.

  • The song is great. It tells it like it is. But "skipper8257", I'm a woman and I gave my exhusband custody of our sons.

  • Just saw Gary in Vegas, my home town. He still has an incredible voice and also can play the hell out of his guitar.

  • Another wrong-gender song: "The Night they Drove Old Dixie Down" by Joan Baez ( ". . . like my father before me, I'm a working man . . .").

  • Gary did an awesome job with this song. Makes more sense that a man would be singing this song. Love Cher's version too.

  • OMg, this is totaly awesome. I have tears in my eyes

  • ooppsss not my genere thanks for shareinggg.

  • you can only enjoy one genre ?

  • nope i like trance technos pop rock punjabi songs urdu songs sariki songs.many options but not these kind of music.:)))))

  • Thanks for sharing brother !

  • Song titled HOME by Gary was a great one. Anyone have a copy to download to you tube?

  • This song goes way back for me... I would have never thought that I would be saying these same words to my own kids.. Just had to search for it to remember who it was by... Sigh.

  • the begging rhythm sounds like a work song... or the start of "come together", by the beatles.. a classic , very underrated

  • Bar far the best version ever. and Sonny wrote it., but gave it to Cher to sing.

  • 40 years on and still this song blows me away. Thanks for posting.

  • youre welcome...

  • Firdome, I applaud your efforts and good for you, but the only way the courts will allow the kids to go with the dad is if you can prove the mother is unfit. If she is a good mother no way do you win. I am happy for you.

  • A great version of Sonny and Cher hit. Gary with his incredible voice.

  • what a beautiful song i think its Gary at his best

  • Got to be the saddest song I ever heard. My father used to play it on his guitar and my sister would be crying for hours

  • Gary Puckett and his voice.

The only guy who can do heart surgery without laying a hand on you.

    P.S.

If you're contemplating divorce, listen to this song C-L-O-S-E-L-Y.

    Both of you.

    Don't be so damm selfish.

Get help now, and suck it up.

    I know; I've been there. It's a living death.

Your children need BOTH of you.

Look in their eyes. They say it all.

  • Make u right, BUT unfortunately it needs both parents to try, I tried and I ended up having a breakdown due to her selfishness and her affairs, but yes I agree the kids need both parents, shame not everybody agrees with us isnt it, as a father my marriage breakdown and the loss of my childern is and always will be the hardest thing i,ll ever have to bear, but I will be at peace one day, i,ll always love my kids and always will miss them, but sometimes things are beyond a fathers control.

  • I don't know what country you're from but your kids are YOUR kids too. I have sole custody of my daughter because I fought the USA courts and the ex for six years and NEVER BUT NEVER GAVE UP!

You are correct in saying it needs both parents to try, but here's the secret; use her selfisness against her. Let her do the talking. She'll hang herself sure as shit.

    You better sit down kids.

    I hope you're not mad.

    You're leaving your mother

    to live with your Dad.

    Sounds better doesn't it?

  • Clicked the wrong button. It is ashame that the women pretty much can screw the guys over but get to keep the kids. I have been their.

  • ditto!!

  • How beautifully and eloquently you write! You are absolutely right as well!I had this exact experience as a child and yes,it is as heartbreaking as this song!

  • Thank you, musicaltouch, for the kind compliment.

I have to believe the writer of this song HAD to go through exactly what he wrote. Cher's version, while sung nicely, dosen't make a lot of sence (a woman singing this tune). It may be sexest but it's fact.

Anyhow, the message of this song should be "Your kids will do as they see their parents do (smoke, drink, drugs, divorce, etc.)"

How about a follow-up song about the kids divorcing their parents?! It can be done.

    Not too nice.

  • Great song, thank you for posting.....

  • Brings back great memories 5Stars!!

  • This record - You better sit down kids - I record i 1968 - and by an accident it was deleted from my tape and I hav'nt heard it since. It is one of my favorites - thank you for the upload. Peter Juul

  • its under the official title....."the worst that can happen" by the brooklyn bridge:)..enjoy

  • Does any one have the song HOME by Gary?

  • Life goes on...long after the thrill of living is gone....Thanks for the memories...!!

  • A long time ago, in a galaxy far far away...

Well, at least this Gary Puckett song isn't about getting on a 15-year-old girl.

  • Great cover. Some of his songs were really sexist and schmaltzy, but I always liked Gary's voice.

  • This is just a wonderful , and be very proud of yourself. Gary Puckett was the only person I ever wrote fan mail to. Thank you for taking me back to the good times.

  • I love his voice thank you

  • I remember that My mom had this Album, with them dressed in those "Union Army uniforms, and i used to just sit and listen to this record, over and over again

    Brings back good memories.

  • In this festive season i would like to add that gary's version of the carol 'o holy night'has to be the definitive article.I am fortunate to have it on a compilation of christmas carols on vinyl and the warmth and sincerity in his voice are truly amazing.thanks for passing our way gary.

  • makes me sad i heard this when the 1st wife and i split, and my two girls cried, and it strange how certian songs touch you,....thank you

  • Another group from the sixties that didn't get their just do.

  • Mac Davis? Sonny Bono wrote it! and Vietnam ? It was about dovorce!

  • Cher did this song back in the 60's. She did a great job. I never knew Gary Puckett covered it until I found this. I always thought it was a Cher song.

  • thank you very much i vaguely remember this song and i am 47 ...seen him at the fair about 18 years ago and talked to him for a second and he looked younger than me.........

  • OMG you did a great JOB!!

MERCY, I havent heard this in over 35plus years.

THANKS for doing it for your MOM!!

Hey I'm on those "funky MOM's" and I've gotten send it to my 2 girls (27 & 21yrs old)

    THANKS AGAIN...

    Bec

  • LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!

  • Not written by Mac Davis, guys. Written by Sonny Bono for Cher, who did the original version.

  • sorry all, had to get this in!! dont write anything too bad about mr puckett as roxinger is his best mate or something and she has already in the past requested i remove another video featuring this song. she is a bit of a busy body! sorry had to get that of my chest.

  • I just double-checked...he did write Home. Such

a beautiful timely song and he doesn't want it posted. What a shame for everyone. That montage was so nice and such a lovely tribute. Why did

he bother writing the song if he doesn't want

    people to hear it?

    he's pro-war?

  • He didn't write it. It was written by Mac Davis, who also wrote "Suspicious Minds", "In the Ghetto", & "Watching Scotty Grow", among others. Gary sings the song to honor our veterans & active duty military personnel & is a supporter of our troops, wherever they are.

  • Mac's version was much better.

  • Didn't Puckett write Home?

  • That's weird that he would sing a song like that

an not want to be associated with anti-war

activities. The song itself is rather anti-war.

Too bad for him as I sent it to people who LOVED

it and responded that they had forgotten what

    a great voice he had.

  • sorry don't actually know i downloaded it on shareaza a while back for my mom. kept it on as it is a lovely song.

  • saw him perform Home, I had tears in my eyes.

  • Gary Puckett is definitely was of the greatest male vocalists of all time. I'm surprised - and quite perturbed - that he doesn't have more recognition than he does. I don't even think he's in the Rock'n'Roll Hall of Fame. He has a beautiful voice, can make you cry, and his songs reflect respect for women. Gary, I was on 4 years old when 'Woman, Woman' came out, but I begged my Dad to buy the album, and I had my first crush on you!!! Gary Puckett...The Voice of an Angel.

  • I love Gary's singing too! He was and still is played on some rock stations. His music couldn,t be pegged as rock though and it sort of has it,s own category.

  • You're right. It's sort of Pop/Ballad type of music. Great music and voice, nonetheless!

  • Just listened to the lyrics in the fast sections - he really did have a pro-woman attitude (as mentioned in Wikipedia). Good guy. Great voice!

  • What happened to the montage of Iraq with his

original version of Home? Man, that was a tearjerker. Can anyone repost?

  • It was removed at Gary's request because he does not want his name or Home associated with any anti-war activity. Should anyone repost it, removal will be requested. HTH

  • Very nice choice instead of the Cher version. Gary Puckett is/was(?) a wonderful singer. I wonder why you would make this for your mother. My parents were divorced in 1956. I was 6 years old. I dont know how old you are, but I hope you accomplished what you tried to do.
