  • +1 for Rebel Alliance hair dryer. (=

  • What is your natural hair color?

  • @littlemissmoo14 It's dark blonde/light brown.

  • Oh my goodness! Can't believe I've never thought to use a bowl and little brush to apply my hair dye before. I have long, thick, wavy hair and always have trouble with the 'middle section' (ie the roots and ends are easy to saturate but not the inbetween bit). I will definitely be trying this way out next time I dye my hair - thank you so much!! x

  • Have you ever tried mixing box dye colors to get a shade you wanted? I want a reddish brown shade that's not too brown.

  • @deedeelight5 no i haven't...

  • I use Real Red by Schwarzkopf! I love it! :)

  • lil advice if you want ur hair dye to last, dont shampoo it 2 or 3 days after and before hair coloring peace

  • @samalrightie Yeah, I typically dye my hair when it hasnt been washing in a couple of days. After the initial rinse out, I don't wash again until a couple of days later as well..

  • @LisaFreemontStreet good girl keep it that way

  • I dyed my hair red at the salon, and I want it a little brighter but they said they'd have to strip my hair, which I don't want . So I was thinking of using a box dye to make it brighter - would you recommend using the box dye over the salon dye? & if you have any other suggestions to brighten the red in my hair. Thank you!!

  • @xMONSTERRx I recommend a box dye simply based on the price difference. I also have no one to blame if it turns out less than perfect and end up being happier, in general. To brighten the red, I don't recommend a permanant color...I recommend a semi permanant color. I will be kicking up my clor with Manic Panic soon.

  • i ♥ it girl!

  • glad you got the manic panic again i 've missed your bright red <3

  • How do you find the staying power of the red with Preference? I've always used L'Oreal but usually used color gems (they have a blue-black I was addicted to for a while), and those reds don't seem to stay long at all. I definitely prefer red on me, but I'm tempted to go back to black just because of how fast it fades! I know this is common with red dye - I've tried about a million different ones at this point :) Also, love the Rebel Alliance dryer!! *star wars nerd*

  • Thumbs up for funny faces.

  • what color manic panic do you use??

  • Wooohoo! I always adore your tunes, but the fact that you played minor threat made me love ya more. :D

  • So i had a couple of questions. One do you put the dye on freshly washed hair or do you wait a day or two of not washing to apply the color? And also when you wash your hair after applying the color do you use cold or hot water? I dye my hair red as well sometimes and i usually get patches of my hair not getting dyed so i will definetly use your technique next time with the "shower" of color with the remaining dye. Such a good idea !!

  • @krzywmn710 not freshly washed...a day or two after I washed. I usually use warm water to wash out the color. :)

  • I love how you even look good while dying your hair! You've just become the exception to the rule that every woman looks ridiculous when having her hair dyed....

  • do you have the problem of your scalp being stained as you color? i do a medium golden brown in the same brand on mine, and it always stains my scalp so it looks like i dont have one! i bought a brush (i live only a mile away from Sally's!) today because i always thought it would help and you used one, but you rub it in when you dump the excess so i didnt know if thats been an issue... if it is, what do you do about it?

  • @OldHollywoodJunkie7 remember that 'color removes color' so to prevent staining, make sure you do that final 'massage' with the color on your hair before you put on the cap and allow it to process. Then make sure you give your scalp a good massage as you rinse...these two things combined should remove any staining.

  • How soon after you color your hair, do you vamp it up with Manic Panic?

  • @xAislynnx about two weeks or so...

  • hehe...we make the same "hair color" face! xoxo

  • Aaaaaaw i love this color!!!!

  • You're adorable as usual! I love the red, I'd try it but I'm going blonde again, and can't afford the red, it sticks to my hair too much. I always loved the preference colors, even the blondes!

  • Do you find that you get better coverage with the brush than with squirting it on? I have been squirting mine on, fighting it to cover every strand. If it works as great as it looks in the video, I'm gonna try it!

  • Love the rebel symbol on your dryer :)

  • I've been wanting to do something with my hair color, couldn't decide to go red or black, I've done both. I guess this is a sign. I'll take it as one anyway ;-)

  • I've never figured out how to dye my hair because it's so hard to get every spot. But this, this idea is genius! I bet I could do it now with the way you are! Thanks for the help!

  • you are awesome

  • such a good idea, i can't believe i never thought of using a brush and bowl and painting on my colour.no more purple forehead and neck......

  • Lol.

That's almost my hair color except my hair has gold-ish highlights.

  • I'm a cos student at the moment and just wanted to point out that the reason your roots are a bit darker beyond your part is because the color isn't getting as much oxygen as the color at your part, so it wont lighten as strong. try combing your hair backwards with a wide-tooth comb after applying the color..should help. No criticisms, just a tip. :) Love your videos!

  • @ViciousMascara right. :) I appreciate that. I actually want the roots at my part to be a stronger color...so I intentionally concentrate the color there. It's not much of a difference, just a little.

  • @ViciousMascara its actually lighter at the roots because she over-lapped the color, the golden rule of hair color is "color cant lift color", so the virgin hair has one "layer" of color, and the rest of the hair has several, causing it to become darker each time more color is applied over it! to avoid this from happening, just color the virgin hair aka "roots", and if needed, refresh the rest of the hair with the left over color left over for the last 5 or so minutes of processing time!

  • Ooh. That color turned out great on you. I wonder what a dark auburn would look like mixed in strips of your current color as minimal low lights. Have you ever used two boxes and made different colored layers? I just wondered. I think that would be a good video as color placement can be such a you know what when you try to DIY. Im still scared to try it. LOL

  • L'Oréal testes on animals :-(((

  • @xLinda2009x no animals were harmed in the making of this video...:)

  • LOVED the glove snap!

  • @ActsOfElegance all for you m'dear! :)

  • @Lysswalks when i use to dye my hair red... i know it sounds gross but i would was my hair 2 times a week and just use dry shampoo the days i didn't wash my hair

  • whats your natural hair color?

  • @KuhKneeKuh light brown

  • It came out beautiful, and thanks for the tip with how u part your hair.I'm gonna do that next time I dye my hair..:-)

  • Hey Sharron(spelled that wrong, sorry :[) I was wondering...What do you do to keep your pincurl set from getting messed up while you sleep(in hot weather)? Isn't it hot to wear a scarf around your head during the night? And how do you wash your face the next day around the hairline area?

  • @misterfreehugs no, you spelled it right...anyway a light chiffon scarf is very easy to sleep in , not hot at all. And I use a wet washcloth on my face so the latter has never been an issue.

  • @LisaFreemontStreet Thanks! :] I used a shower cap(cut holes) and a bandana last night...Bad idea e_o Woke up next morning having wet hair. xD

  • i just dyed my hair red to it looks exactly like the color of red velvet cupcakes do you have any tip to keep it from fading quickly

  • @tutalamor1 shampoo as little as possible...use a dry shampoo ...and don't be afraid to color it often! :)

  • aw i found ur channel with the manic panic video :)

  • @Aniyra right...I do that when I use Manic Panic but I've never had problems w/ this dye staining my skin. :)

  • I love the color red you used. I usually go that red in the fall and in the winter and blonde in the summer and spring. I love the pigment that the preferance brand gives your hair. When I go back to red from blonde I usually have to dye it twice to get all the color the same from the root to tip cuz of all the damage the bleaching does to my ends and shaft. I love the video and love the color! Great job Ashley!!

  • Ashley I love this color, its great, being a natural redhead myself, I have to admit, I might be going to use this color , my natural red hair is more on the copper red side, it has more gold tones to it, but I think I am going to use this color you showed, I like the rich color better you and i are the same skintone, the milky white skin! ha ha! :)

  • red red wine sounds alot better when bob marley sings it and your hair looks great i really like the color

  • @toxic0love1 That was actually Tony Tribe...but either way, Neil Diamond wrote it!!!! Long Live Neil Diamond!!! :D

  • @LisaFreemontStreet Neil Diamond is a genius...I'm a huge fan

  • LOVE!! By the way, where did you find your shower curtain? It is adorable!

  • @benamber728 Sin In Linen. See my review. :)

  • If you applied it in sections 'within' those sections directly to the root then the root colour would be even, regardless of the part. The shampooing motion isn't distributing enough colour to lift the hair as much as where you applied it directly, also doing the whole front section of your hair at the start gives it even developing time so more time to lift, combined with the smaller sections it should be the same all over at the root unless your hair is simply darker in the middle section nat

  • @ditaveeYes, but I personally I don't want the root color even...I want it brighter along my side part so I apply extra color to that section and make sure to start there so it develops a bit longer. Not sure I get the gist of the rest of your comment but I appreciate your input. :)

  • Lol. No no, we don't steal, we simply get inspired. Lol.

  • @mymakeupface EXACTLY. That's how I feel about it...but let's face it...you get too literal w/ that 'inspiration', others will label it as stealing. haha!

  • love love love it.. =) BO HAHHA HAA .. come to the blondeside fast..sweetpea its damn fun over here..! =)

  • I was eaves dropping! You could TOTALLY do the blonde chunk! She has one in the back bottom too, at the nape of her neck. do it, do it!

  • @mymakeupface ah, i don't wanna 'steal' her signature look too directly. Mine is going to be more of a subtle golden blonde...

  • thanks for posting this, love all your videos, and I'm dying my hair using the brush on method from now on.

  • Love it! I think I want to go red now! Again! However you do your is fine, and whatever works for you! You could probably show us hairdressers a trick! Thanks for sharing, love your videos!

  • Cool video....helpfull cause i'm coloring my mom's hair.......but.....wait a minute.....blond with red???

  • @1LeiaPrincess YEP...google cherry dollface...:)

  • @LisaFreemontStreet OW!! It's not bad at all actually! :)

  • My red never stays for long :(

  • @mamarobyn it's high maintenance...I color every 4-6 weeks. But it's worth it, I think. And cheaper than the upkeep on blonde hair since I can confidently do it myself. Also, keep the red bright by using a semi permanant color like Manic Panic between permanant colorings.

  • jedi fan + a neil diamond fan....*high five*

  • @TheChum1981 *high five*! Sucks that UB40 got all the credit for this great song that Neil Diamond wrote! :) And while I AM a jedi fan, I would have left the order for Han Solo and his blaster...;-)

  • @LisaFreemontStreet hahahahahahahahahahahaha!

  • Beautiful :) where in your hair are you getting the blond streak? Sounds like fun! I'm thinking of getting some blond highlights for a change but I don't want it to look too "modern" any placement suggestions or ideas? Can't wait to see how your blond piece comes out!

  • @JenniferGentle88 Right at the part...so that part of it falls on the light side of the part and part of it falls on the heavy side. :) Hoping to film it at the beauty salon Saturday.. Now, it will look modern. But I like the juxtaposition of 'modern' stuff with vintage style. Always have...

  • @LisaFreemontStreet Cool stuff! And right on about the juxtaposition :)

  • May the red hair be with you, always!

  • @Fancylooks LOL! xxoo

  • gorgeous! i love red hair and i love your videos! :-)

  • AHHH!!! I FRIGGIN LOVEEEE your dryer behind you! Starwars Rebel Alliance FTW!!! :D

You really did an outstanding job! I also really love your technique. Way to go! ^_^

  • @Vozzost I'm such a geek! LOL My husband painted up this dryer to look like this after I told him it resembled an X Wing Fighter Pilot helmet. I am secretly a jedi...;-)

    xxoo!

  • @LisaFreemontStreet Okay, I officially LOVE YOU!!! EVERY TIME I was in cosmetology in highschool or at the salon getting my hair dried; I'd seriously make "pew pew pew" noises and such. In my imagination, I was Luke going in to blow up the Death Star! >:D Buwahahaha! I am SO glad someone else thinks the same! Hahaha <3

Well, the fantasy switched between Starwars and being in the video game Star Fox. xD

  • @Vozzost *chuckle* You are 'The Last Starfighter'. :)

  • @LisaFreemontStreet Kickin' ass in bright makeup and platform shoes. LOOK OUT! *PEW PEW PEW!!!* >:D

  • Beautiful Beautiful Bautifuuuul ^_^

  • Wait, "over-40s"? isn't she in her middle 30s (like 35 or something) O_O she looks so young

  • @gothicappearance yes, I'm 35. :)

  • @LisaFreemontStreet She was referring to herself I think...with the 'us over 40's' comment. haha

  • I have trouble with salon colors, too! In fact, I *just* had my hair colored in Okinawa, Japan by a professional, hoping that the results would be different than in the U.S. and not happening. Also, the color is not what I wanted. It's a deep purple red when I asked (and showed pictures) of a brighter more candy red. :( Not too upset cuz I can change it later, but that's my experience with salon colors vs home colors.

  • Only woman I know that can look adorable while dying her hair!

  • I am sooo happy you posted this. I love dying my hair red/auburn but I've never done it myself and I needed to know what the best home dyes were. So thank you so much! =)

  • Ashley, I too LOVE the conditioner that comes with the hair dye. It runs out far too quickly. Another guru spoke of a product that is "dye conditioner in a jar". It is Keihls Sunflower color preserving deep recovery pak. This does WONDERFUL things for my hair. Hard to get here in Canada, but much easier in the US. Just a suggestion.

  • Great vid! For us over-40's, you want to keep hairdye off of your ends til the last 15 minutes or so. Older hair has changed texture and is usually very porous with the ends being especially open to absorbing color. I didn't know this & had to chop the last 4 inches off of my hair when they came out waaaayyyyy darker than the rest of my hair. Now I do greys/roots first, smooth it onto 1/2 of hair (ends bare). Then pull color down onto ends only last 15 minutes. And I LOVE the color brush!

  • @debbiechickie5 That actually is what the package directions say t do but when I'v done that (and my ends are really porous, being that they still have bleach on them), the ends just weren't the same color as my roots...:-/

  • Thanks Ashley :D

    Great vid as usual
