  • @croshaun yea your right, but if i could find a nice terminator i would probly rather still get it. I've looked into a supercharger but i cant go big unless i put new internals in the motor. Right now the most i can go..or so i'm guesing with stock motor is around 445 at the rear wheel.

  • (SkateorDie67) Once your talking over 650HP everything behind the engine has to be built up unless you want problems. FYI there are 650+ HP LS1's out there. Yes its hard on the engine but it is possible. If you didnt know even though an LS1 is an aluminum block it is a 6 bolt main. Even in an 03 Cobra you are going to stess the motor at those power levels. Not to mention the transmission and rear end. Its expensive at that level any way you look at it.

  • lol, am I the only one here that loves any brand of car with a v8? I own a 99 mustang gt but I could and would have easily bought a z28/ss or trans am or anything of the sort if i could have found one in my area in my price range. $7300 for an almost flawless stock gt. I couldn't pass it up.

  • I have a v8 Lincoln Town car and is not all that fast but it will still beat 4 out of 5 cars on the road and it can do off the line. By 4 out of 5 i mean your average everyday car, the 5th is a Cobra or SS.

  • i had a 94 s-10 4.3 5spd stage2 clutch 4.11 gears and i never got beat stoplight to stoplight i pulled a foxbody 5.0 by 2 car lengths that was a badass truck off the line

  • im not saying any LSX motor sucks, i know that when put up against a GT the LS1 will outrun it, but the cobra is all around a better bang for the buck, built bottom and top end, s/c from the factory, t-56, 6 Speed trans, and look bad ass...hands down the cobra will out run the camaro in every way, mod for mod it still walks on the LS cars

  • im so sure LS cars are triple the cost. A cobra in good condition with low miles, will cost $20,000-anywhere in the 30's and ive even seen higher than that. And cobras definitaly dnt have twice the hp. A WS6 has 335 hp and with a supercharger, the cobra wont stand a chance.

  • @GdupD666 welll the cobras are rated at 390 hp which as we all know is a lie. then for you to compare a supercharged ws6( apparently tuned since they arent a stock sc car) to a stock cobra really isnt fair even if it does have 60 less hp than the cobra

  • thats a pretty ignorant comment... i own a full bolt-on 04GT, have worked on cobras, driven them and would still take a LS1 car over one... 99 Z/28 with a cam, longtubes and lid making 413 will undoubtedly outrun most any eaton cobra and still get like 25mpg on the highway... not to mention it would cost 1/3 of that 26k you just paid for a stock car... not to mention the axle breakage and pumpkin cracking you'll get with the cobra should you decide to launch it and it wheel hop...

  • Thats the thing though... if depends on what you want to do with the car.... if you are only shooting for around 450 rwhp both cars will get you there pretty easily, ESPECIALLY the cobra with about a thosand dollars in mods. Now if you are talking about 650 rwhp for example then the cobra is where it's at.... kenne bell and supporting fuel mods, no need for a built motor in a cobra since it already has one. You can't do that to a stock camaro, hell they don't even make twin screws 4 camaro's.

  • Besides, a pullied cobra is more than a match for a h/c/i/e camaro. and I still get 23 mpg with 470 rwhp and 480 lbs of tq. So it's not that big of a difference. An irs brace and some stiffer IRS bushings along with drag radials cures the hop and no breakages, all while handling MUCH better than the camaro. IMO you get MUCH more for your money if you get a cobra. But thats not to say LSx engines suck, not by any means.

  • Not really. See: 1990, Audi IMSA GTO vs RWD IMSA cars. The Audis won in everything because they had better traction. The drivers were all professionals and at the top of their game. Thusly, if the Audi with 4wd did it better, it's a better car.

  • I'm not saying that 4wd isn't good. Quattro is amazing btw, but if you need a example of a rwd car that handles amazingly look at the ZR-1. Granted at very high speeds awd has the advantage, but I prefer rwd, its more stimulating to me. to each their own I guess.

  • id actually rather have a motor than made 300hp at 9k rpm than an engine that made 300hp at 5k rpm as long as i got to gear them differently... you'll go faster with the 9k rpm motor than you will the 5k rpm motor if geared correctly so actually it can be better to have less tq :-P

    with that said i enjoy my GT with its 4.10 gear around town lol

  • Not true. Have you driven a honda? It sucks waiting to get power until the top of the power band. Low end torque is the best. Having the powerband at lower rpm would be way more beneficial.

  • If you wanna see a v-8 that makes 1000hp per litre.. look up a top fuel nitromethane dragster.. they produce about 8500 hp.. rough estimate by the NHRA

  • ....which v8's?, hell a ford 4.6l would have to push 4600 hp where as a honda/toyota/vw with only a 1.6-2.2l engine would barely have to graze 2k horses to be at that mark. Plus the s2000 has the engine with the highest NA hp/displacement ratio from the factory at about 124 hp/1 liter

    anyway horsepower per liter doesn't really matter. if you have a 2L engine with 300 horsepower thats kickass. you're producing way more horsepower per liter than say an LS3. but at the end of the day the LS3 still makes more power. horsepower per liter ratio isn't really a bragging right. talk that to a vette guy and he'll laugh in your face and bring up the power to weight ratio...

  • I know hp/l doesn't matter as much as power:weight, I'm not gonna try to make that argument, I just want to see a V-8 with 1000 hp per liter, and when it comes down to it 4 bangers or smaller engines are much more capable of cranking out more power:liter then a big block, this just in response to modularfoursix

  • with emmisions tests today its really hard to make good hp/liter ratios on a V8. keep in mind that back in the 60's before the oil crisis, companies were making 426 cubic inch engines and rating them around 420 horsepower for insurance reasons, but they put out closer to 600-800 horsepower stock. with gas so expensive now you're kind of working against the laws of physics when desining a V8. its supposed to be powerful but fuel effecient at the same time. back then all that mattered was power.

  • True enough, but thats still 200 hp/l which for a 4.5+ liter engine is amazing don't get me wrong, But then when you look at RX-7's and other rotaries and you slash out their emissions stuff you can get good gains. In reality this gas/emissions insanity is adversely effecting every car, even those of us with 4 bangers

  • why a turbo.......you'd be better off with a Kenne Bell supercharger. my cousin has a custom built KB charger for his 03 and he can run 30psi at about 850RWHP(alot of internal mods obviously or he'd grenade the motor lol) although a turbo would be nice too i guess lol
