  • His voice really cuts deep.

  • Man this song kills me. I always say if your going to be dramatic...go all the way. If it wasn't so powerful it would be utterly corny.

  • Ah! When he sang this at the Shrine in LA I nearly cried! So incredible!

  • LOVE IS NATURAL AND REAL>>>>>IF IT AINT NATURAL IN ANY FORM THEN IT IS NOT REAL FOLKS...............NEWS FLASH GET REAL HUMAN TRUTHS FROM THE SMITHS >>>>>GET WITH IT PLANET BULLSHIT cmon now its easy to laugh its easy to hate it take guts to be gentil and kind :)

  • I absolutely love The Smiths, im gonna post it up on my page;even though people won't listen to it because their minds are corrupted by the music nowadays :/

  • Gutwrenching. So sad.

  • Yes, he does now. Thank Heavens!!!!! It's one of my all time favorites

  • I'd probably cry if I had to play this at a gig..

  • Beautiful

  • A beautiful beautiful song, makes me wanna cry everytime

  • Where can I see a official video? Want to hear this song live with great sound

  • wish I could have been there.

  • hëhe_Ï_fëél_sö_loñÈlÿ_todÄy

  • This is my favourite Smiths song. It moves me everytime.

  • I love the lyric "it's so easy to laugh, it's so easy to hate, it takes guts to be gentle and kind". It's one of my favourite Morrissey lyrics. Here it sounds as if he sings something else instead of "guts", as he sometimes does, change the lyrics of a song a little bit when he sings them live. Does anyone else hear a different word, and if so, what might it be? Great performance btw!

  • @maartendas 'strength'

  • @maartendas

It's "guts" with an intentionally heavy accent.

  • There was something mystical and magical about Morrissey and Marr. They are ment for eachother. To bad they dont relize it. Like Marr said in an interveiw one time. He thinks what he is doing is great, and what I think what im doing is great, then at the end he just grins. Like saying im lying out of my teeth. It would be great to see them once again together. But I know it wont happen.

'Please, Please let me get what I want this time."

  • how brilliant is this...go Johnny ...

  • "the soil falling over my head" there is no more eloquent expression of the desire to die.

  • Morrissey= Best Lyrisist---- Marr= Unbelivable Guitar. I never got the chance to see The Smiths but I have seen Morrissey meny a time, and I even caught the banana he was playing with on stage!!!.....Still in my freezer....Highlight of my year!

  • That's not soil falling over your head, that's your shirt!

  • As great as Morrissey is as an artist, he is equally repulsive as a human being. Not a good man at all. He stands for so much "GOOD?" but does he really?... I have been a fan since the mid 80s and he has always ket a professional level but has slipped as being a person. So sad...

  • @themetalchef I agree!

  • @themetalchef he is an animal rights enthusiast. vegetarian. he is cold because he is sick of humanity's intolerance and sick obsession with war and cruelty.

  • @pickyantivirus.. I am aware of his love for animals and his activisim but I am not a fan of his desires to wish ill will on political figures. He asked the audience to run over a political figure if they saw her on their way home.. For someone who speaks of peace and tolerance, that isnt very peacefule or tolerant of anything. War isnt good but people want to kill us so I would rather kill them before they kill us..

  • @themetalchef politiicains are assholes, Churchill was the only one with a slight hint of giving a shit about the public.

  • My favorite of this incredible an eternal band <3

    Many thanks for posting this.

  • Just broke up with my boyfriend of 6 years this week. I'm trying to be strong, so why am i here? Goodbye Pete

  • @Ghat801 Give it time. I was in a similar situation but things always get better in the end. And The Smiths is great music to help :)

  • @Ghat801 poor thing

  • got to be the best version i've ever heard. 'Handsome groom give her room'.Genius.

  • almost twenty five years, and this song remains so special to me! i remember when i bought "the queen is dead" vinyl album and listened so much to that, and loved so much this song! long live the smiths!

  • everything about this song is brilliant

  • oh it's so real

  • moz certainly knows how 2 deliver a song amazing lyrics wow:)

  • What a great performance. The shirt toss was impeccably timed with the change in music.

  • Every intelligent person has not thought of commiting suicide. Feeling down or even depressed does not equal suicide.

    Help may be needed.

  • @Shadius how do u know every intelligent person hasn't??

  • Fantastic viva The Smiths- Morrissey

  • The Queen is dead is by far my favourite Smiths album.

Only three bands meant anything to me in the mid 80s -

The Smiths, The Fall and Dexys.

  • This is one of those songs I can remember where I was and what I was doing when I first heard it...and after it was over I was so amazed that I had to take a second listen to make sure I heard every word properly then decided it was the most brilliant song I've ever heard...actually heard of the smiths through jeff buckley...Long Live The Smiths ...

  • thats it im their newest greatest fan

  • wow this is epic , he really puts his whole self into the ending

  • There is no rivaling beauty produced by sadness. My meloncholy love where have you gone. Those adolescent days when you were so faithful and real. I know its over...

  • Such a shame their relationship went sour.

    Two geniuses collaborating

I guess it was too good to last

  • Was this filmed in '86 b/c The Queen is Dead was

released that year but I think they were touring with some of those songs before that album even came out.

    Thank you for uploading.

  • the same thing happens to me when i hear this song, thoughts of suicide and tears falling....... but it's a beautiful song and this live version is simply amazing... so sad it's such a SAD song..

  • GENIUS!!

    Oh well, enough said...

  • lyrical genius

  • "Love is Natural and Real, but not for you my Love"

Genius. This is easily my favourite performance of this song.

  • Best of the Best. Long live the king Morriessey

  • fuck.

  • YES! Amazing Morrissey. It's so easy to laugh; it's to easy to hate. It's takes to guts to be gentle and kind.

  • wow...favorite smiths song!

  • it goes....."i know its over and it never really began." johnny marr is a GOD

  • it was over before it ever really bean?

  • i have cried many of nights and thought of suicide to this song, yet frankly mr. shankly always brings me back from the edge

  • lol. i bet youre not the only one

  • might want to change ur playlist bud

  • thought of suicide?

Erm...mate you shouldnt be on youtube you need serious help.

Seriously please go get some help or something.

  • @Kozzy06 and @youknowwhoyouare8 - I think every intelligent person has thought of suicide at one point or other... not so strange. And Kozzy might be right, sometimes it is good to talk to someone about it... but I don't think the smiths is a bad thing for such feelings... in fact, probably just what the doctor ordered. You're not alone in your loneliness ;)

  • @suparni That's true, I'm so glad I found the Smiths! =]

  • genius beautiful song

  • That was simply beautiful.

  • beautful

  • Ever heard a song and you just feel like the singer climbed into your head and dug out every single thought you have?

Best Smiths lyrics ever....a break up has never been described more accurately.

  • exactly, every time i hear it.

  • So true. This is always the one I crawl back to whenever I'm miserable. This and How Soon Is Now.

  • @MarqueeMoon95 try 'last night i dreamt somebody loved me.'sadder in a way because there's some hope left at the end to extinguish.

  • I've tried that too! I've tried every Smiths song. They all work. And Last Night I Dreamt is also brilliant for when you're depressed.

  • love this song...and the smiths

  • The best lyric in this song is certainly:

It's so easy to love, it's so easy to hate

It takes strength to be gentle and kind

Because it says so, so much.

  • my exact thoughts

  • We each have moments in our lives where we remember where we were when we heard tragic news. My girlfriend and I broke up one evening and as I was leaving her house, I put in this cassette. I remember everything from that night when I hear this song. the moment, the anger, the hatred and the long drive home.. OVER AND OVER again.. Thanks for the aweful memories that made me who I am today.. I recently found her on facebook. The moment I saw her profile pic, my heart sunk. Decisions to be made.

  • Totally with you there.

The passing of time and all it's sickening crimes, making you sad again.

  • the best song by the smiths. word. intelligence and emotion. but then again thats the smiths in a nutshell. oh mother i can feel the soil falling over my head. brilliant.

  • i think its easily the most genuine. its words have a hugely profound effect. you can relate to them in a very human way, you don't have to have had the exact same experience but i think it speaks volumes for how people feel after a break up...

  • Most influential album of my lifetime-The Smiths Rank. I can still listen to it now, after 20 years, and be moved. Fantastic stuff. I honestly feel that kids today are completely cheated because they DO NOT have anything at all like the music from The Smiths..

  • I totally agree dude ....the queen is dead lp will never be bettered in my opinion. .....i still play it to death now saw them live in 1986 in wolverhampton.....best gig of my life.

  • Does he ever play this with his solo thing?

  • not as of yet.

  • @suparni He does now!!!

  • @azrial4421 I don't think this COULD be performed without Marr!

  • @azrial4421 As Morrissey, you mean? No, I think jonny marr and Morrissey decided this is the smiths, ballad it may be, but i think you will never, sadly, see this live again.

  • @xGoD4CoD4x He needs to eat his own testicles and do a Smiths tour

  • @azrial4421 haha? impossible now with the haterid aimed at Mike Joyce by the man himself :(

  • @azrial4421

he did in boro few weeks ago was awesome

  • One of my fav's from them. Such a moving, intelligent, song.

  • hahaha you twat

  • I have a lot of favorite bands mostly in rock music but very different bands like Pink Floyd , Metallica , The Doors , Led Zeppelin , Radiohead , very random , but The Smiths are beyond favorite band status , The Smiths is the band that I LOVE , this is a band to die for and all though it may sound real creepy for most (but not for Smiths fans I'm sure) I feel as if my life wouldn't have been complete without them , my life would've been so much emptier without them . Thank you The Smiths .

  • kicks you right in the gut it does.

  • there is a band from wales called the smiffs , a great smiths tribute act , check em on my space , google em , enough said .

  • seen him live many times.......it's awesome!!!!

  • yes, one of the best songs/video ever, wish i could have seen em live

  • Wow!! you are an artist ,Morrisey is OMG!!!! HE IS AMAZING, his souls in every song..his music moves me....and he so darn real!!!

  • Comment removed

  • God damn, what a song

  • sooo beautiful makes me cry

  • They way Morrissey literary put his soul in every Smiths song , I think only a few musicians have managed .

  • It's true, man.

  • one of the best songs ever written

  • I know it's not over! It can't be! The Smiths for ever!

  • One of the most tragic songs ever written.

  • @jojo1791 I'd say one of the most beautiful and tragic songs written...

  • @jojo1791 most tragic? It's just about some guy losing a girl. I'm sure there have been more tragic things.

  • @jojo1791 yes,it's true...but it hits you deep inside...very melancholic....

  • I know its over is in The queen is Dead

  • Are there better lyrics than this in pop music?

  • I do not think so

  • That's exactly what i asked myself after listening to it for the first time. I'm pretty sure there aren't.

This song made me love the smiths.

  • ok my post below was supposed to be a reply to bernand's question. i don't know why it got posted here.

  • I used to loooooveee the Smiths and Morrissey but now I think Morrissey is a self-pitying git but this is still a wonderful song

  • Haunting is the only way I can describe this, its just so beautiful and sad.

It really reaches you, and now I've got a lump in my throat and tears in my eyes.

I would loved to have seen them live, or to know that people still wrote music like this.

  • A youth simply isn't complete without The Smiths. :)

  • The most beautiful band in the history of music.

  • thank you so much suparni! ... and morrissey

  • these lyrics are unreal. love morrissey

  • This just sums up the end of a relationship.

  • Stunning.

  • I would have loved to hear this live!

  • The rampant finishing riff is as Marr knew then that ending it was like putting an end to the world itself. Keep on playing it, please!

  • the soil falling over my head...................

  • Up until today I had heard only Jeff Buckley's poignant cover of this remarkable, beatiful, disturbing song. I can understand why he loved singing it and was so inspired by the The Smiths! Thanks for the video and I look forward to exploring more of the Morrisey genius! Smiths

  • Listen to Still Ill. That is my favourite Smiths song.

  • still ill is one of my favourites too, and nowhere fast also.. it's hard to have a favourite cos they made everything brilliant. viva morrissey!

  • one of best songs ever .

  • I've never seen this live...thank you.

This is a great break up song...

  • Fantastic. The Rank live version is perfection.

  • Comment removed

  • I think this is the song tha appears in Rank

  • one of my favourites ;)

  • They were the BEST. Saw them touring the Queen is Dead album in Spring '86 in NYC. Beacon Theatre with Billy Bragg, the Barking Bard. SPM wore a hat over his eyes and sang his arse off!!!

  • the voice, the guitar , la mélodie ;classique définitif

  • Morrissey never felt any soil falling over his head, he's a liar.

  • The guitar is so great in this.

    Stark, harsh, strident, angry-

in contrast to Morrissey's beautiful, resigned lament.

That's the impression i'm getting anyway.

  • Is this the greatest heartbreak song ever written? My God, they were great.

"It's so easy to laugh, it's so easy to hate...it takes guts to be gentle and kind."

Watching Marr and Joyce interact is painful, knowing what happened later on...

  • Quintessential Smiths.

Perfect balance of honest, melancholic lyrics and beautiful melody.

  • this song makes me cry, it's awsome ,,awsome

  • i like when he starts to get undress, especially in this song. I love this song!

  • as i heard this music when i was younger. the love is natural and real but not for you my love. great song.

  • I was at this gig!

had to settle for tickets in the circle, but they were on top form.

have the whole lot on video.

the entrance to 'the queen is dead' was brilliant

  • Why don't you upload that stuff? The internet would be thankful. Be a hero!

  • AMEN

  • I hate live videos but this is AMAZING!

  • One of the Greatest songs in World

    Emotional & Sublime!!

Always Ring A Chord in my Heart!

  • Great moment.....

  • oh my god, ive seen this video a million times but it really is amazing. but so terribly sad at the same time. morrissey really does pour his heart out in this, and you can see he means every word of it.

heres to the best band that ever existed.

  • great

  • If Marr and Moz ever reformed trying to get tickets for their gigs would be....well you'd be better off trying to get a blow job off Salma Hayek while bungi jumping off Tower Bridge !!

  • thank you suparni!!!

  • i dont know were else i can go..

  • i love you mozzzz <3

  • This version is way too fucking good, I can't take it...

  • What i love about the lyrics is it conveys emotions without really saying tears or i love you) like i fell out of bed twice,

  • I'm young and I'm beautiful

    Enough said

    It doesn't matter

    This is perfection

Its so sad and its so true

    THATS WHY IT'S PERFECT!

    God bless morrissey

  • Many other Smiths songs make me smile and cheer me up for the lyrics but this one..everytime i listen i cry...why? is there the word "tears" in the lyrics ??

  • great post flowerlike42.this track just oh.
