  • Fuck nukes.

  • The "Best" anti-war song ... ever...

    Thanks for uploading this song.

I just "luv" the picture of:

Ciarán (Bourke), Barney (McKenna), Ronnie (Drew); John (Sheahan) and the picture of Diedre and Luke Kelly (early in their marriage) (in the foreground)

Thank you so much for sharing the song and the picture with us on YT :))

  • with a wink and a nod from Nixon, i'll blast em all to Hell :D

  • just change the names

  • Hail Gerry Adams

  • "Almost a permanent job" LOL

He's right though, everyone's going to be spending trillions on weapons long after we're all dead and gone. It's never going to end.

  • Well, I guess I'll be the person that says "Looks like one person missed the like button"...

  • the pointlessness of nuclear war

  • @mypinis YEEEEHAAAAA!!!! YEEEEEHAAAAAA!!!!

  • LOVE LUKES BANJO IN THIS ONE

  • Built Chatham Dockyard, laid down December 1900, completed April 1904.along with the other 7 challengers.

Fuck me you must be one owl twat margate.

However Challenger is now a deep sea mining support vessel.

I was hoping for a bite from my old offsider on HMS Valliant.'But You'll do yer thick melt.

Marine Engineering officer William Geoffrey Lovett .RN (BE Mech.E. Newcastle))

Also trained on HMS Sultan and Nelson.

  • I can remember singing this along with 88 ratings and 12 Officers,30 seconds after releasing cruise missiles from HMS challenger in 1991 to twat the living fuck out of Iraq.

  • @geofflovett youFECKING LIER, I WAS ON THAT LADY AND NOWAY DID THAT HAPPEN, YOU FECKING WANKER!!!!!

  • @geofflovett Twat

  • yyyyhhhaaaaaa .......

  • Such a class song...

Replace "Brezhnev" with "Khamene'i", "Nixon" with "Obama", and "Castro" with "Kim Jong-il", and not much has changed has it?

  • @BostonFenian actually, alot has changed. apples to oranges mate, no situation with so many differing factors can ever be the same. Obama and Nixon are completely diff people for example, nixon was a craxy fuck who would nuke anyone, obama is a pacifict (well, as much of one as a president can be)

  • @BostonFenian No disrespect for Castro although he failed he tried to withstand the evil capitalist powers. Don't forget the Irish fought a fight somehow equal and there where irish in the (failed) liberation of Kongo under command of Castro and Che.

  • @zwerverbeer ...

  • @BostonFenian the only thing is that Kim hasn't any whiskers to hide behind ;)

  • @BostonFenian I´m ashamed, but you´re right!!!

  • what you on about its about America

  • Love it <3

    Irish and proud (:

  • luke sure pushed a lot of buttons.

  • had me laughing all the song..

    dubliners rock !!

  • Have someone the text of this song?

  • @Chomuno

You can find the text in Google: "The Button Pusher Lyrics And Chords".

  • I love this song!!

  • Had luke any children?

  • ja, 2 meine ich

  • sehr böser text. tolles leid, wenn man so richtig sauer ist-

die dubliners machen einfach gute musik

  • No offense to Simon and Garfunkel, but this song is WAY better than The Sun is Burning.

Makes me wish that Luke could've been nicknamed Luke "The Button Pusher" Kelly instead.

    Great, as per usual.

  • WWOOWW MMAANN

  • ''i'll waddle my ass as i go past and we'll all go up in smoke'' brilliant

  • @slightlyphsyco I think it's actually "a bump of my ass", but I'd have to check.

  • Had to look this up while listening to it twice.

Are they wearing cowboy hats? - does that help to date it.

Written by Enoch Kent originally from Scotland, but longtime resident of Canada. Appears on a Dubliners' album "Revolution" from 1970 (Blame wiki if I've made any mistakes!!)

  • brilliant song!lol

  • hey, could any one tell me about this pic? thanks for your time.

  • Seconded!

When was that recorded, and who is that (lucky) girl in Luke's arm?

  • Have looked at Google (images) for Dierdre (O,Connell) Luke's Wife and it looks like it's her. - (I'm not an LK expert but Kelly O'Neill would know for sure)

  • Are you sure? Because, there's another actress named Deirdre O'Connell, who also appears in movies, and who is still alive (Luke's one-timewife died of cancer in 2001, and was strictly a stage actress as far as I know).

At Google Images, I find mostly pictures of the other Deirdre (several from a play in which she appeared in 2007). Adding "focus theatre" does nothing either. I've only ever seen 2 b&w pics of Deirdre; apparently she was a redhead tho.

  • I've seen it recently in "print form" (News or magazine articles scanned and put on web) - The accompanying text explains that it is on the set of "Richard's Cork Leg" at the Abbey Theatre - First show March 1972, hope this helps

  • SUPER!

  • Great!!!

  • Absolutely fucking brilliant.doesn't need an explanation.

  • ok, i think this song is about the cold war, but can someone plz explain it?

  • It's sarcasm about how stupid the whole thing was.

  • LOL!!!

  • what the.. didnt expect to find this on youtube, absolutely love this song! :D

  • great song! i love the dubliners since ago i was a young boy of 5 years old!

    greets from germany!"

  • Surprisingly since this is one of the more popular Luke Kelly songs, I actually didn't listen to it until recently. Now I can't stop listening to it, It's fantastic!

  • Det er en gammel sang, men stadigvæk lige så sigende...

  • jaysis i love this song.....my two kids (daughters) knew this at the ages of 3&7 great words

  • when was this written?

  • It's on the 1970 album revolutions, no clue who wrote it

  • It was written by Enoch Kent. I assume it was written in the late 1960s because it mentions Nixon and Brezhnev.

  • Is that Tommy Makem? (sp?)

  • Nope, its Luke Kelly.

  • Thanks.

  • more than 20 years/alot more than 20 years .... same difference :P

  • Thanks very much for uploading this!

  • It's a lot longer then twenty years considering that Luke died in 1984.

  • wait WHAT?!!

  • 20 years?????????

  • LOL

    Yeah

  • relevant ... even though it was written more than 20 years ago
