Yes, it is something worth thinking about. I think as demand increase or decrease so too the BDI. It may be better to cross index the BDI with HARPEX to obtain a long range past performance and future projection, then compare that with what has been happening since Clinton left office until the present. In this way you can graph shipping with all the shenanigans every nations seems to be pulling off.Plz keep us posted.
PS bankers, barbers, farmers tend to be on the cutting edge of how society changes and the direction it is heading. Nothing wrong with being a stylist, barbers always listen closely to what their paying customers are saying, which is more than I can say about politicians.
In the future, please turn OFF the TV noise in the background. Your videos will sound a lot clearer. It's also better for your brain--NOT to be programmed constantly by TV subliminally!
Either that or consciousness is expanding and circumventing these prognosticated catastrophes. I like to think we're influencing the course of history toward a brighter tomorrow. I see that in my reality, not this doom and gloom shit. There are only two emotions: Love and fear. If you're not loving, you're fearing. Simple as that. Just be love and don't fret over what MIGHT happen. It's a waste of time, energy and love.
well it looks like nothing happened so far??? Hmmm maybe it will be like all the other financial crisis we've ever gone through. Things will just recover and people like this will be seen as little scared pussies who freaked out over all the indicators that turned out to mean shit.
I hope it all come to a screetching halt! I'd love to go back to living in the 1850's. We might learn that we really need each other as a global family then.
I have heard this information from three other sources that I concider to be creditable stable. I have also heard this from news reports also.
There is a good possibility that there will be empty store shelves in America in as little as 7-9 months.
As soon as the warhoused suppy state side becomes exhausted suppy will dwindle to the amounts being shipped from abroad, and there simlply isn't any money. Along with the glut of money from "STIMULUS" there will be rampant INFLATION. worthlessmoney
the index was almost just as low in 1999 and nothing major happened... now if the cost goes lower than the operating cost for an extended amount of time it wont be good news for sure.
@iodyn (sorry for late comment) And what happend in 1999 or after 1999, to "stimulate" things later on....... Guesses anyone....... I can think of a WAR or two....... Anything els anybody....... NEVER FORGET, HISTORY REPEATS ITSELF.......
if you had read the wikipedia article a little longer you would have read that the BDI can plummet or go sky high pretty easily because the supply of ships is not elastic... if a sudden peak in demand occurs the price sky rocket because it takes over 2 years to make a ship so they just cant make one on demand so the price go up. They also cant "park them" because of the cost and deterioration of a parked ship so the price go really low if the demand goes down a little.
If you read the latest shipping reports you'll se that ships are being moored all over the world, and we have now got a glut of new ships ordered in 2005, and with no owners, as they have gone bust, anyway the ships were bought with borrowed money that now can't be paid back.
I think if you want to know what is happening with BDI or manufacturing in general watch the prices of recyclable metals and plastics...high prices suggest high demand...low prices suggest low demand..and a price collapse suggest NO demand...BDI validates that theory because we are seeing a 97percent decline suggesting that global manufacturing demand is zilch
auto manufacturers are closed for 6 weeks...all the factories i know of are laying off or closing...im not sure what manufacturing is increasing...if you are in one of those increasing congrats...here things are shutting down, slowing down, laying off ...ect...how can manufacturing be increasing when retail is suffering like crazy?
i know barge pilots who work the Mississippi..it getting pretty bad there too..the numbers ive been hearing is a decline of 30 to 50 percent from last year.
sound like its a good thing sts..except that all you have to do is look at the prices of recyclable metals which is VERY low...historic lows from historic highs ..steel was 200 dollars a ton last summer now is running around 13 dollars a ton...that means NOTHING is being manufacture here or abroad..that is BAD BAD news because that means MILLIONS of people will not be working, billions of dollars of goods wont be produced.prepare for massive INFLATION as instore inventories decline
im flagging this BS for being boring!

Yes iodyn, however you must also include that prices have greatly inflated since then.
So the level of no profit is a lot easier to reach now.

It means that people are gettings things locally and making more use of their environment, instead of poluting it. I think that's good.
