  • the site is called rationalopinions? how appropriate.

  • Honestly.........not only is this a crock, but the use of Nazi imagery also actually damages the reputations of those people who do legit research on them and their acolytes, etc.!

  • Wow anyone insane enough to post this wastes the rest of our oxygen

    twice the polluter.

  • OMG! I knew that the people behind Climate Change were all Nazi industrialists! I can't tell if this video is supposed to be radically critical of rightwing politics or is a complete FAIL by a climate denier. Laughably so, or just a real, real bad equation by a critical environmentalist. Either way it is incredibly stupid.

  • Before you claim to know what is going on with the climate you should spend a few hours reading through the "skepticalscience" website.

  • That's funny. A completely pointless attack on science using Godwin's law by a site called "rational opinions". Nothing rational about this.

  • This comment was from a green nazi named randomlaughingman

And you're a fucking anti-american coward baby who wants BIG GOVERNMENT to do everything for them. Why the fuck should I support the laws YOU want when you won't support MINE? I AM a proud atheist vegan Communist party member. And I DO support war for just causes, such as stopping subhumans like you and welfare-loving corporate CEOs from being paid for than $70,000 per year. I DO support war to redistribute wealth.

  • Very incite-ful.

  • O you're sooo rational, what with all that data and analysis as opposed to trying to make people fearful of demonic conspiracies.

  • Herpdy derpdy. Hur durrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

CO2 EMISSIONS CAUSING OCEAN ACIDIFICATION TO PROGRESS AT UNPRECEDENTED RATE

WASHINGTON -- The changing chemistry of the world's oceans is a growing global problem, says the summary of a congressionally requested study by the National Research Council, which adds that unless man-made carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions are substantially curbed, or atmospheric CO2 is controlled by some other means, the ocean will continue to become more acidic.

CLIMATE CHANGE: Snow Cover Turning to Lakes in the Himalayas

    By Stephen Leahy

UXBRIDGE, Canada, May 7, 2009 (IPS) - As climate change takes hold, even the mighty Himalayas and Hindu Kush mountain ranges are now losing their snow and ice.

These are the world's greatest repositories of snow and ice outside of the polar regions, and yet they may melt away in just 20 to 30 years, leaving more than a billion people desperately short of water

  • Icelandic Volcano Chills Travel PlansBut What About the Climate?

Published: April 15th, 2010 in Impacts, Climate

    By Andrew Freedman

The ongoing eruption of Mt. Eyjafjallajokull in Iceland is disrupting flights across Europe, shutting down some of the busiest airports and aviation corridors in the world. But could it also disrupt the climate system, leading to a temporary cooling trend this summer?

Not likely, according to Rutgers University environmental sciences professor Alan Robock

  • Looks like a simple video from a simple mind.

  • Lake Vostok and University of Melbourne studies indicate that the wobble (axial rotation) of the earth's axis causes climate change over a 26,000 year cycle (Precession of the Equinoxes). Since the last ice age was about 18,000 years ago and C02 typically rises for 21,000 years, we can expect another 3,000 years of global warming - and human beings can do very little about it.

There are benefits to increased C02 levels since plants will flourish and that means more oxygen for us!

  • Green technology isn't necessarily good for the planet, even if it is more efficent.

All electronics (for solar panels and so forth) depend on rare earth mining and processing - an extremely toxic business.

China is the world's leader in rare earth production.

Carbon Dioxide (the so-called carbon footprint) produced by man is less than 1/10 of the C02 in our atmosphere (just .038 percent). Water vapor is the largest greenhouse gas by volume at 1 percent.

  • Ya I get what your saying. But its kinda funny. Expecialy now that Climate Gate has come out. But your right, this should be a search for truth not for political gotchas.

  • Oh I see now -- common ploy -- massively misrepresent what a movement stands for by using the radical fringe of the movement to define its entirety.

    Totally dishonest on its face.

I will now ask you to prove that this is what the movement is really all about. You will counter with examples of the extreme actions of a very small minority, rather than the far more mainstream and practical positions of changing power supplies, and other easily attainable solutions.

  • Then, in keeping with your basic dishonesty, you will claim that leaders who seek to change the verifiably unsustainable status quo are REALLY dictator wannabes who REALLY desire to enslave all humanity.

You will do this while wholeheartedly seeking to avoid the REAL and far more civil discussion - one of dispassionate, logical and objective science.

Does it appear as if I've heard this all before?

  • Al Gore is the fear monger. To paraphrase Al Gore: "I claim that human productivity is going to lead to climate disasters... the evidence is far from conclusive (but I'll preach otherwise), but we must play it safe and install totalitarian governments to restrict people from creating wealth."

Anyone who thinks that he is deserving of consuming/controlling wealth that another human created is a dictator wannnabe.

2)They aren't allowed to fly their jets so less need for pilots, jet mechanics, stewardess

  • @jprational WTF? give me a break! So the opinions of the AAAS and the NAS and many others is just crap? So what you are saying is that the really smart people who have the facts are wrong - but any other opinion will do - what? What totalitarian restrictions are you referring to? Imagine a world without pollution - oh you are right - that does sound scary!!! OOOOH PS most economists agree - switching from a fossil fuel based economy to a solar/wind economy will actually produce more jobs.

  • I just love that the Liberal thralls are begging the same politicians that are regulating and taxing and subsidizing the oil and coal industries to regulate and tax them even more to "get rid of them" and promote alternative energy...ironiclly from the same companies that currently provide the oil and coal that only recently from public pressure on the governments are now able to pusue their alternative energy tech now that the world governments lifted the bans&restrictions on wind.solar, etc

  • The environmentalist movement IS anti-human at its root. It's utopia is a world in which humans do not exist.

What good could come from negotiating with the demands/requests/laws that come from that premise?

Internet debates never end. I've stated my case and have identified the players and issues enough for a 3rd party to rationally consume. I'll not reply to this thread any more.

  • thats incorrect, sustainability is the key factor in the environmentalk movement. The green movement is pro human as by carrying out unsustainable practices, such as overconsumption and use of non renewable resources we are shooting ourselves in the foot and lowering our and our future generations futures. Sustainability is common sense. we can have an impact as long as it is not permanent or so severe that the environment/species/ecosystems cannot recover.

  • "Overconsumption" and "sustainability" are undefined and subjective words used for political purposes. They appear to lead your particular brain to imagine Gore's doomsday scenario as a given fact, and are unconnected to reality.

Humans manipulate the earth (resources) to turn them in to useful products valuable to humans. All animals do this.

"Ecosystems cannot recover" is used politically to suggest that anything non-human must remain untouched... impossible without the death of humanity.

  • 1) Sustainability is a characteristic of a process or state that can be maintained at a certain level indefinitely.

2)Over-consumption is a concept akin to overpopulation, referring to situations where per capita consumption is so high that sustainability is not achieved.

    has that cleared it up?

As for species that cannot recover you only have to look at the extinctions caused directly by us. some species are key to our survival e.g. bees, currently in decline at finacial cost to us all.

  • overpopulation is nonsense. you need to factor in

    adaptability (amazing isn't it)

& the impact of civilized growth rates vs undeveloped nations.

the idea of setting nature vs mankind is for the brainwashed. we are nature.

1 do something about water pollution

    2 do something about GMO's

3 do NOT further the globalist agenda with your nonsense warming and overpopulation scare tactics - thx

  • @auamoti - since when is logic and arithmetic, and common sense, an agenda of any kind? each person requires x amount of food and water, and as artificial urbanisation is now taken over, most rely on no-longer-natural systems for other stuff, like clothes. do u know how to get threads from plants and spin them into fabric? can u make machines that do that? of course there's overpopulation - look at the amount of 100%-pointless jobs there are, compare to the ones that should exist, but don't.

  • @jprational - are they fuck political, they're practical things that even the likes of villiage elders have implemented as rules and concepts since there've been human collectives living in groups in some organised fashion. politics is something that abstracts practical needs for survival, as settlements grow beyond personally-manageable sizes, hence things like tax introduction for centralised services like refuse collections.

  • @jprational - also, ecosystems patently cannot recover, at least not for a very long time and only if the un-natural doings cease entirely. how long do u think it'd take for say the Thames or the Seinne or the Danube to return to being drinkable and bathable, without any artificial treatments? - which only toxify them more anyway. they add chlorine to water supplies, that is bleach. it's exceptionally unhealthy and should only be used in emergencies if at all. the ecosystem can't process it.

  • @jprational socialism is "unsustainable" no socialist nation has made it past its diamond aniversarry. but capitalism has lasted 10k years. so why is the green movement simpatico with socialism? if you want the green movement to last then you need to get out of bed with big brother and hop in the sac with capitalism. its the only way it can be made "sustainable"

  • @markbotv3: Capitalism has lasted 10k years? I don't think so. Try a few centuries at most.

  • @jprational Sustainability has a very clear definition: practices that are sustainable are practices that can be passed on from generation to generation for as long as is desired.

The difference between humanity and most other life on this planet is the scope and degree of our affect on our environment.

  • @jprational "All animals do this." I'm trying to think of an animal, plant or bacteria whose 'product' once consumed and discharged as waste is not only not useable by another species for years, decades, centuries or even longer but in many cases causes the extinction of said species far exceeding what is considered the normal background extinction rate.Hence the words,"Overconsumption" and "sustainability"

  • @jprational - no, any humans who have issues with living in harmony with the ecosystem are not just anti-actual-human, it doesn't make any sense how such entities can come to exist on a planet like this. evolution wouldn't produce a dominant species or even any species, that pollutes at all. the ecosystem is holistic, everything is functional and symbiotic. most systems humans rely on today are nowhere near that, when systems that are in harmony have always existed & still do.

  • Easily attainable?

WEver wonder why the "Picken's Plan" isn't advertise anymore?

    1) Those windmills cost 2 million each and can only power 500 homes each, the pllan calls for 2000 or a system that can power only 10,00 homes

    2) Upgrading the National grid to allow those 2000 windmills on the grid to "power "he entire US" will cost 11 trillion and take 10 years to complere

So why is the Picken's plan silent now?

hint: there is more then 10,000 homes in the U.S, windpower tech sucks

  • @BeondaPale socialist

  • ...and the message here is what exactly?

Al Gore wants to round up people into DEATH CAMPS????

Damn, you spent some time on this totally delusional BS --

LOL - What a waste of it!

  • If you are human, and you alter nature (like all living animals), you are an enemy of the environment. That is the essence of the green movement.

  • all living animals alter nature in some form. A cow grazing is altering the nature of the land around it. A plant growing is altering the nature of the land around it.

farming, building a house, manufacturing -- all alterations of nature.

So everything that lives is Nazi?

  • No.

The essence of the green movement is to oppose all human wealth-creating activities. It's standard is a world in which humans are not noticed (i.e., don't exist).

Therefore, they will continue to work toward that ideal which translates in to (among other things) severe statist governments to curtail human wealth-creating activities.

The premise of the green movement is ridiculous on its face, and all compromises with that premise simply inflicts more human suffering.

  • Very well said

  • It turns out that new studies do indeed show that the troposphere is warming as predicted by most all climate models.

  • I'm not sure of *your* particular motivation...

Even *IF* the integrated sum-total of the world's climate is indeed warming, it would be a "leap of faith" to point the finger at human wealth-creating activity and then to grant dictatorial powers to politicians so that they can force the future of humanity back toward the caves.

I think you're caught in Reverend Gore's loony net--it's not too late.

  • the secret to knowing if ghg is causing gw is in the troposphere...if the ghg's are causing the warming then the mid troposhere is required by virtually all if not all climate models to warm faster then the earth's surface..this does not seem to be happening

  • Hello,

Thanks for viewing. All but a handful of people are even qualified to have an opinion on supposed anthropogenic climate change; and yet most people 'believe' that it's occurring and that we must further enslave humanity to stop it.

Please see my blog for further writings on this injustice: rationalopinions-dot-com

  • sharkblubber - you can see the correct version of the graph in the 1996 IPCC report - this was only replaced in the 2001 report by the fabricated graph of Michael Mann et al. who was conveniently also the lead author of that section.

Specifically, the times when it has been warming at much the same speed as now include from 1850 - 1940, during the mediaeval warm perion, during the Roman warm period, during the Minoan warm period.

It is also likely there are errors in the land temperature record

  • LOL - very funny presentation - scary too because of the reality of eco-fascism.

  • Now teh IPCC is no longer independant, can we ahve our Nobel back?

  • An odd video-relating the scientific concensus on climate change with human being the most likely cause of recent warming to the nazis??? explain please.

  • A scientific report does not mean the stuff is true! We shuold all be doing moleculAR NUCLEAR FUSION ANYWAY, CHEAP, SAFE POWER WITH NO co2: sO NO gw. ipcc ARE SUCH A LOADS OF TOSSERS!

  • sharkblubber - the whole point is there isn't a consensus - in reality there is a fierce debate amongst scientists.

  • Most scientific academies agree it is "very likely" that humans are the primary cause of the current RAPID warming (0.3. degrees in just 25 years) (I can't find another period in the last 600,000 years where the earth warmed up as rapidly as that). The following agree with the above: NASA GISS, NOAA, the MET office, AAAS and the science academies of Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Italy, Japan, Russia, the United Kingdom, and the United States and the AGU with 50,000 members!

  • sharkblubber - you misunderstand how science works. It doesn't matter how many bureaucrats state their opinions, all that matters is evidence, and even one piece of good science by an individual can overturn a supposed "consensus" (think Einstein, Darwin, Milankovich).

The fact of the matter is that evry week there is at least one new scientific study in a peer reviewed journal which contradicts the CO2 dogma.

  • I agree that good evidence can overturn a theory but the organisations I mention are not bureaucrats and they are not crazy, nor have they found that key evidence you mention. I've looked carefully at the NASA GISS graphs (not the IPCC ones) and I can't find another period in the last 600,000 yrs where the earth warmed up as rapidly as it has currently. The Sun's output has not shown the same trend over the last 20 years, something is wrong. Methane and other GHG's play a role too, not just CO2.

  • sharkblubber - you can't have looked at NASA GISS graphs for the last 600,000 years, since thermometers were not invented that long ago. You're confusing proxy reconstructions, which are hotly disputed.

Take a look at any textbook on climate science and you will learn about the holocene optimum which was several degrees warmer than now for an extended period.

I don't understand how you can think that 0.3 degrees is a lot of temperature rise!

  • I'm talking about the NASA proxy graphs along with BAS data. Disputed or not, they show that the RATE of temp increase is "Unprecedented". Many skeptics think that the temperature is the problem, its not, its the RATE of increase that has scientists worried especially as the suns output does not match the current trends so it is highly unlikely that natural factors are to blame. Adaptation is hard when change is quick and 0.3 degrees on a global scale in just 25 years is an unprecedented change

  • sharkblubber - you can't get away with "disputed or not, they show".

They're disputed for a reason - well actually several - because they're junk science, and their methodological mistakes have been rebutted many times, including by a panel led by an independent world famous expert on statistical methodology (Wegman et al.)

The crucial thing to note about the proxy indicators is that they undershoot the temperature record in the 20th century, so you can't just stick the two graphs together.

  • There are many ways of finding out about the past before temp records, don't throw them ALL out because one proxy was disputed. I agree their accuracy is mixed. But, the 150 year old temp records (which are pretty accurate, show there has not been an increase so rapid as we are experiencing today during that period. The suns ouput doesn't show the same trend as the rapid rise,so what could be the cause? the most likely explanation is the one that all the national scientific academies suggest

  • sharkblubber - far from suggesting that we throw out all proxy records, the great majority of proxy data (in dozens of recent studies (from boreholes, lake sediments, ice cores, sea sediments, pollen samples, etc.) shows that there have been MORE rapid & HIGHER temperature rises in the past than now.

Secondly, the 150 year record shows that there has been as much and as fast a rise (1900 - 1940) before CO2 emissions as after them. The sun's variability fits the temperature graph better than CO2.

  • If the proxy records show a period with as rapid warming as we are seeing currently, then please name the period and the source for me to confirm. 0.3 degrees in the last 25 years is more rapid than the 1900-1940 period. NASA, NOAA or the MET office can confirm this. "The sun's variability fits the temperature graph better than CO2." according to who? To search the suns ouput graphs google this- Construction of a Composite Total Solar Irradiance (TSI) Time Series from 1978 to present.

  • This isn't a green debate it's now become an opposition to al gore debate, a democrats vs republicans the very thing we don't need. I don't understand why people wouldn't want green tech or to save money and resources. Alterior motives at hand especially when I saw a petro chem ceo on faux news a few days ago disregarding the evidence

  • @eldictator1: That is too funny! "Green tech" saves money. I guess I am talking to a major Solyndra investor. "Green tech" means well connected & protected crony capltalist industries. Solyndra et al are nothing more then slush fund for hiding bribe money & kick backs.
