This is part of the pathetic part of Lou's career - he was a speed addict and instead of helping him his management put a superb collection of studio musicians behind him and sent him on tour, addled by speed. Rock N Roll Animal is precisely the same and thereby ranks as perhaps the most repulsive musical work ever constructed. If you morons can't tell that Reed is methed out in this footage, you're blind.
@TybeeTed i don't know why i'm bothering but...pathetic?! please...lou reed is livin' the dream and this was just another chapter in his ever changing oeuvre...'rock and roll animal' is a great prog rock record...the intro to sweet jane is cool! who cares if the vu were more visceral and blah blah blah...so?!...for one shining moment, lou was a fuckin' rock and roll animal...doin' speed and kickin' ass.
I saw a picture of a NYC club back in the 70's and at one table were Lou, Mick Jagger, Bowie and at a nearby table was Keef with his woman. All I could think was, it's on tonight.
absolutly true............the Rock&Roll animal album is one of the best live album ever (after the pie Rockin'the Fillmore and the Cactus live) due also of guitar legends Dick Wagner and Steve Hunter !!!! Lady Day 's my favourite L.Reed tune..........I dunno why ; you mentionned M.J.............well L.Reed played Rock Music, the other one POP !!!! not the same for me..............Rock on ........Richie
@subsamadhi not only that but this was only one phase of lous career. it by no means defines him the way jagger was defined by these kind of movements. it was only one aspect of lous versitale catelog. lou is definitly the most underappreciated songwriter of all time...and in my opinion hes the best period.
@broadstem yeah fuck mick jagger. At least Lou Reed seemed like a cool guy who was relatable. I fucking have always hated rock stars with huge egos. I'd rather have a beer with Lou Reed any day of the week.
@nimatek667 Yeah I guess i have never really read any interviews with him or how he thinks of himself. He seems down to Earth. I could be wrong I guess
@Zephyesa yes, because only a totally normal person would post a comment about ridding the world of someone, right? Someone with a healthy view of reality and humanity would say something so fucking retarded and sick. Besides, you muslims are currently getting your asses kicked by white people all over the world, so I think us white perverted freaks are all right at the moment, thanks.
@subsamadhi yes his presence on stage had then so much 'chi', just like Bowie as Ziggy , or Morrison bringing total silence in the audience...Mick Jagger is cool but not shamanic
Speed...YA THINK?!?! ;) God, Lou, well over 30 years ahead of his time...Scott Weiland is trying sooo hard nowadays, with Velvet Revolver, to be like Lou was in 1974...nice try, "A" for effort, but...nobody will ever look as cool as Lou DID back on this tour...he invented about 20 looks, and styles, copied to this day, then just moved on...thats what I love about him...invents, then moves on...Lou, you rule...period!
Reed is either in great shape, or he is emaciated from drugs--I really can't tell.

At his height, Lou Reed was totally untouchable. Cooler and more original than Mick Jagger, I think. Much more interesting onstage.

more cool and more original than anyone, lou's in a class of his own!
