I have just read that Argentina want us to tell them where all of our Vanguard Class SSBN's are! The bloody cheek; the most secretive military asset that the UK has and they want us to tell them where they are. Pathetic, poor idiots. We should VETO any decision made about the Falkland's unless it declares that the Island's are British!

The Falklanders have time and time again declared they wish to remain British. Even last week a Falklands newspaper published a picture of the Argentine president with a big caption stating simply "Bitch". So what if we sent a vanguard to the islands, its our teritory, we can send what we want. I dont see France having a hissy fit everytime a type 45 sails down the channel. Their wimps, and know full well they would lose a war. So they imploy these cowardly tactics.

Nice video! I've worked on US subs for decades. I love it when the Brit boats visit. One time when one of your boats came in, they had a bagpiper in full regailia playing topside as they entered the channel and port. That was so classy and so impressive. It was moving. My ancestors came from Scotland to Virginia in 1698. I'm proud of my heritage.

Yes the missiles can hold 12 warheads each but the exact amount that they carry is classified. Also i'm a scot and i am proud to have them in scotland. Its people from all over the uk that want rid of our nuclear weapons not only scots. Want proof then go see the peace camp outside faslane and you will see its full of all kinds of brits. Had a tour of one of these boats a few weeks ago, awsome especialy as she was out of the water in the ship lift at Faslane. Its amazing what is packed into them . The climb up the fin is a bit hairy!!!!

I worked on the building of this boat in Barrow-in-Furness serving my time as a marine electrician. These boats were far bigger than any subs previously built at Barrow and a new hall (Devonshire Dock Hall) was purpose built to ensure these boats were constructed away from prying Soviet satellites.

Each vanguard has two crews (blue & gold) who switch at intervals of 100 days. (I guess cos it must be too depressing to stay underwater for more than a 100 days :)

At any given time they´re 135 people on board (either the blue crew or gold)

the crew consists of 121 enlisted men and 14 officers.

So your figure of 270 crew must be the total amount of men who serve on the sub.
