  • who knew while there was a man in the mirror that on a street corner somewhere, there was a girl in a box?

  • very touching and beautiful video to go with a very touching and beautiful song... This is probably my favorite song by her, next to perhaps Winter. FYI, I discovered a much better quality video of this one day at ru.rutube.com... it's like Russian youtube lol check it out

  • Very touching and beautiful video to go with a touching and beautiful song. One of my favorite by her, dare I say my absolute favorite. It was Winter until I discovered this one day

  • WOW, and she comes at the 29 Okt. In my City!

Hope she is so good like 1994 on the Under the Pink Tour!

This song is so beauty and Sad that everythime i hear i want Cry!

  • the moment where tori brings her hand up to the rioter's face as the cops are holding him down... probably my favorite moment in music video history.

  • Wonderful woman artist, Tori...she´s amazing! This song´s moving and beautiful. Thanks for posting!

  • This song makes me always cry.

  • This actually made me cry a thousand oceans.

  • like bjork's song 'wanderlust'?

  • Amos has explained that the idea for the song came to her in a dream. An old African woman was humming the melody to her, and she got up around 5:30 in the morning to record it.[2][3] Writing the song, she describes the transition from the melody line around the words "I cant believe that I would keep, keep you from flying" to "and I would cry 1000 more" as particularly difficult, and what took the longest time

Tori wrote this song because her husband's father had died and it was difficult for her to help Mark in his grief... So one day she sat on the piano and played this song and Mark came by and sat by her side. He felt understood, it brought them both closer together again - it's hard for people to share grief, but Tori found a way for them... =)

  • i love the song but i do not understand the video

  • I know that this song has always been a favorite in the Tori community, but for the longest time, I didn't care about it. It just didn't move me at all. And then I saw the video. The song alone doesn't do much for me, but this video with the song brings up the most beautiful sadness in me every time.

  • for anyone who loves or even likes this song, check out this school who sings it, its so great! look up ps22 (as in public school 22) and these 5th graders sing this exact song

  • those kids are simply amazing!

  • I would cry 1000 more...see you some day J. RIP

  • I love this song and most of Tori's music, but IMO the video just did not capture the serenity and solemnity of the lyrics. This would have been a perfect video for the song "Riot Proof" from the same Venus and Back CD. For "1000 Oceans", I would have preferred something along the lines of an oceanic backdrop, similar to the song "China" from her Little Earthquakes CD. Not trying to nitpick, but just a thought.

  • can always re-do the video yourself

  • you were the one paul. who had my heart. rip

  • one of the things i have always loved about tori is the overwellming look of compassion and love that resonates from her eyes. she seems to see right to the soul. and i can see hers. too often we let this exterior shell blind us from important things. if only the world could understand the real meaning of unconditional love. this video makes me cry everytime. the african american woman is beautful. who is she? she looks familiar.

  • Do you mean the AFRICAN woman? Or the Black lady doing strange things with her tongue?

  • the women with the family at the end of the video

  • very beautiful. tori is amazing !

  • Very powerful song. I find this video haunting.

  • tori makes me cry...

  • oh my god this song is so beautiful

  • Love to see a Tom Waits / Toris Amos collaboration ... Dark/Light Angels n Demons..would be interesting...

  • FUCK THE POLICE!

  • this song is very pretty but it's so sad. I Love It!

  • L.E.D., how do you think we can be so close and live so far apart? i'm not sure that i would go back and change things even if i could. sometimes we need these trials to reassure ourselves that what we really have are the things we really need. the warmest part of my life lives deep inside me next to all the memories of you.

  • very profound ,i agree.

  • Definitely one of my top three favorite Tori Amos songs.

  • Przepiękne. Uwielbiam Tori Amos!

  • great song, great video

  • This was the first Tori amos song that i've heard, and still its one of my favourites.

  • mille océans de larmes, tu n'en es pas loin ma fille. Que le soleil qui est entré dans ta vie sèche toutes tes larmes...

    je t'aime!

  • Very beautiful song !!!

  • I think the box is 'indifference'

  • I felt this way throughout the campaign -

  • I like it how only the child can really see her...she how she is dying...

  • i'm cry :(:(

  • ale to piękne!!!

  • and i love her, tori is great

  • My beautiful (she really is) friend Mel brought this song and video into my world.. I understand it deeply!!

  • Okay I'm crying like a fool now...*sniffles* This is one of my all time favorite Tori songs...everytime I hear this, and Northern Lad, I can't help but weep a litle.

  • It is hard to interpret it all at once, because there seemed to be so much symbolism. The father, the way everyone went on their way...and in the end, how everyone sees her yet she is in this box- and the meaning to it. I can relate to that, was my first reaction...with when I write poetry, and how I could get tons of reads but no reactions. Art seems too selective, and only people who can embrace an artist's talent or the talent of being an artist, can relate to it.

  • Well put!

  • I think she's like the serpent/snake in captivity (look how she dances)...and everyone has different reactions when they see her, like everyone's observing her. Some are fascinated, some are scared, some find her funny, or evil, some are even tempted to look at her (like the nun). But apparently, she's observing everyone, too. (Oooh! I fell in love with the guy at 2:18 - 2:22!!!)

  • LOVE this! TFP!

  • it's gotta be the moon?

  • What a beautifull song great vid.

  • hot damn i love tori

  • its brilliant! i luv it

  • Tori stated that this song (and video) are in response to the LA riots. The extras in the video are people who were in LA during the riots.

  • The riots of the early 1990s? I'm confused!

  • Wow, I didn't know that! Thanks!

  • i get the feeling you're thinking of a different song. This was written for her husband after his father died.

  • i love this song!

  • Awesome song!! Beautiful , my favourite my Tori

  • 1000 oceans

  • This may be the saddest song ever- but I love it and love Tori

  • Gorgeous song

  • I think vid shows the stages of grief: isolation (glass box) Our inner child tries to reach us (girl) but we're closed off. Denial maybe. Then anger and rage at our loss (the street riot). Then tears (tribal guys screaming). Authorities/Religion has no answers (Nun who refuses to help). Grief is solitary as the world passes by. Its my favorite song. The end couple = wholeness/coming home possibly. Tori said a black woman sang to her in a dream. Maybe this song was a tribute to her. Such Soul...

  • I love your analysis :)

  • @thelawof1 The hardest I ever cried was the first time I saw this. I just want to reach in there and take her hand and hold her. Tell her that I feel her grief and I rejoice in her music. This song makes me want to hug everyone I meet. She shows such passion and despair but joy at the same time. It and sh is amazing!!!!!! it' is my favorite too!

  • @thelawof1 thats beautifully put and exactly what the video is tryin to express. amazing woman.

  • If anyone says that things about tori...is...just someone who doesn't know anything about music!

  • everyone says that kind of things about tori just someone who doesn't know anything about music!

  • You suck!

  • It's a beautiful song...really beautiful...

  • who are you UTOPIcosomething...to judge tori amos?

and how dare you to compare her with those TOKIO BULLSHITS?

TORI AMOS IS one of a kind AND ALSO HER MUSIC!....!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Does anyone else think that the nun looks a lot like Jennifer Morrison?

  • every time I hear a song of her I get surprised of the 1000 levels of her voice and her music!!!!!!!!!

TORI I am really thankfull for your existence!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Keep writing beautiful music!

  • I like the way she sings "to sail you home, sail you home, sail you home, sail...sail you home" at the end..

  • I want to cry when I hear this...it makes me think of my late friend.

  • This is definately one of the best videos of Tori Amos. I love it.

  • This is a brilliant representation of the human condition and dysfunction. It is very, very powerful. Thanks Tori!

  • I love the look.......... I stupidly dismissed TVAB when i first heard it, but after rediscovering i can honestly say it has surpassed choirgirl as my fav tori album. I also must say that Datura and Suede are my all time favs :)

  • TVAB is an underrated record.

  • one of my fave albums of all time, especially the songs juarez, glory of the 80's, riot poof, spring haze and this song - some of my fave songs of all time

  • definitely one of my favorite tori vids ever

so much emotion i wish i knew more people like tori.

  • This get's right to the core for me right now, c'est la vie.

Beautiful song and video, thanks for sharing.

  • A deeply affecting song. One of the most beautiful I have heard...there is something very poignant and sorrowful about it.

  • beautiful song..one of Tori's BEST. I could listen to this over and over again.

  • This made me cry. :(

  • a thousand oceans? :P

But I know how you feel.

    I absolutely adore this song!

  • One of the best.

Not many videos can make me cry but this comes close.

    Brilliant!

  • I think she's my favorite singer of all time...Love you Tori!

  • oh, tori, you have a Beautiful voice!

  • just perfect..i have no more to say..

watch ''here on earth'' and you'll admire it!

  • the way they/whoever it was who arranged and set it up in 'here on earth' could have been soo much better. sorry, imo it just seemed soo half assed and anti climatic. compared to the epic vision and sentiment in this mv

  • this video is stunning, like her voice and music! she is a goddess.

  • what an awesome song. it`s my fav tori amos song. isn`t it in 10 things i hate about you?

  • You know that I will run, You know that I will follow you...Over Silbury Hill, through the solder field..You know that I will follow you...

    so beautiful. :'(

  • hi otofyertree

... those lyrics are coming up my minde so many times too... love it!

    rp

  • my heart feels sad when I watch this vid, it reminds me of parts of my life

  • I feel like I want to put myself in that box for awhile to see what the expereince would bring. Although,on second thought, I would be so vunerable to the mischief of humans.

  • this is kinda true ,:-<

  • vaya canción! hermosa letra, hermosa melodía. Tori rocks!

  • great song/video/story/environment/happening.

  • maks me wanna cry :(

  • Hermoso, as all that she does.

  • coool cooool thanks mate

  • i looooove this song!

  • wow !

its the only word i find !

    wow !

  • This song is beautiful, it reminds me exactly of a redhead that I loved for a while last year. She sang and looked like Tori in a way, but not in an imitation way.

This reminds me of her, in such a melancholy way...beautiful song

  • this is one of my favourite tori songs, and I consider it to be the saddest song she's written.

  • I can't believe that I would keep

    Keep you from flying

So I will cry 1,000 more

If that's what it takes to sail you home

  • Ha significado tanto esta canción en mi vida... (aún recuerdo cuando la escuchabamos juntos amor...) se me hace tan duro todo lo que dice y tan locamente verdadero en mi corazón...

Sabes que te amaré por siempre...

  • i love her! tori is a goddess!!

  • You really have to feel for the poor girl waiting for someone in the rain.

  • Bella canción, dulce voz, excelente video.

  • been looking for this song for long finnaly I found it,thanks !

  • So beautiful,...

  • I'm a filmmaker, and a Tori fans aswell. I have to say......that I've seen almost all of her videos, and there so cool. I give props to her and her production teams for producing videos like these!!! She has the right people around her to help her show her visions!!!

  • You're a filmmaker? AWESOME! I agree with you about Tori. I act and sing, and I wnt my visions seen and heard someday, too. She's really amazing like that.

  • Dont play this after a break-up! I did once and cried my heart out... So beautiful...

  • Tori Amos is a musical genious. It's hard to sing and play piano at the same time. Believe me, I've done it. I really look up to her.

  • It's true. She's really amazing.

  • awesome!!!!

  • This song is powerful. Tori can write songs!!!

  • Tori Amos Amerikanin Sezen Aksusu.....Tori Amos sevenler Salih-26@hotmaile davet ediyorum..........

  • I love her

  • Sin duda una de las mejores canciones de Tori.

Y el video es genial simple y poderoso.

  • This is one of my favorite Tori songs as well, and the video is awesome too. Right now, I am really connnecting to this song as well. My best friend was killed in a car crash a little over a month ago, so that is the angle from which this song is taking it's meaning for me right now.

  • This song makes me think of the x-files!

  • I've been a Tori fan for 10 years by now. And I must say that this is my favorite Tori song ever! I sent it once to my ex boyfriend in a TV show. THANK YOU TORI!

  • this video was written for her husband, mark, when his father died.

and ps. this is amazing amazing amazing! its so touching. I would cry 1000 more if that whats it takes TO SAIL YOU HOME.

    SAIL YOU HOME.

how amazing is that. how amazing.

  • I'm catholic. Tori appears to think that she's the grand puba of pagans but thats what I like about her. Shes serious about what she does...nomatter how weird. Love this song. Thanks.

  • She's spiritual, and she seems to take most of her beliefs and spiritual incite from christianity (although from a more enlightened angle than the strict christian upbringing she experienced), as well as her Cherokee roots.

  • chit meant to thumb you down lol.seem a good catholic anyways can you explan words never heard n a dictonary called to me by so called catholics.regardless ths aint a relgious song? were you gather that. listen past the msson real tori girl.luv tori myself but im not catholic.

  • Hey, why does it matter. This is almost as bad as all the arguments about Tori being gay. WHO CARES? Can we just leave all the politics and religion crap out of it. She's a good artist. That's all that should matter. Enough said.

  • Hey, I'm pagan, Wicca, to be exact, and I don't think she really reflects that in her music. But , hey! It's all about interpretation , right? I'm glad your open-minded, too. Alot of people who know me accuse me of being demonic and a freak. Thanks for think Tori is awesome, despite her religion.

  • SUBLIME...

  • silbury hill actually wiltshire nr. avebury

  • emotional child , war in life , toy ship in the dark , naval battles , the world outside sometimes dark and violent , living in a glass window ... silbury hill and the solar field are in glastonbury somerset. what is not to get ???

  • Silbury is in Wiltshire

  • love song dont get video

  • its MADONNA! the great madonna, the protector, the great. People respect her or are confused, she brings controversy and rebellion. That;s how i interpret her.

  • madonna?

  • Why did this comment get such a low rating? She doesn't mean the singer Madonna. Jeez.

  • Why did this comment get such a low rating? She doesn't mean the singer Madonna. Jeez.

  • Song is nice and I like her voice but don't get the video at all.

  • As an internationally acclaimed artist that travels the world, she becomes removed from the world and sees more than we do, and as a result is seperated from everything that goes on... immortalizing the common "victim" in all of us.

  • saw her at opera house few weeks ago. fantastic :-] she is so talented

  • The videos a bit poor in this version ..but good to see nonetheless .. in an interview she said one of the extras in the riot scene was so into it ..he got hurt ... and lovely japaneese butoh dancers !

  • love this song

  • Tori is the most amazing person in the world, I think :)

    This is soooo beautiful!!!
