Hi thanks for responding I am making a projet on a Shanty Town but we decided to go more with the injustice of the place and decided to talk about Dubai, so I would like to know mostly how is the place doesnt look really poor, is there really cheap toal made houses? Is there part of it that didnt get destroyed yet, and what has it been replaced with? Thank you for your time, excuse my english I am french.
@XPlorer313 dear, Satwa is one of the oldest housing projects in dubai.I am not sure about its start but many building are there made 25-40 years before. these are single and double story villas which initially were used by local Arabs. But after oil boom in the country most of the local arab community shifted to new modern housing projects in the city.
and these villas were given on rent to the poor expatriates mostly belonging to south aisa ( India, Pakistan , Bangla desh, sri lanka, afghanistan) and philipines and some african countries. Its demolishing was started in the end in 2008 and it was said that Govt is going to made a tourist paradise on this place. soon during the demolishing project.. in nov 2008 dubai was hit by global financial crises. .
@hassanhashaam Ok, could I also know if it as all been destroyed? And the destroyed part of it as been replaced with what? And is it really poor because I remember seeing a Saleem in the video, I know Dubaï is really rich but I find it still weird.
bcoz of this , costly project was stopped which gave a huge sigh of relief to all poor workers who were worried about their relocating from the cheapest place to the other costly and unaffordable areas. this old area was in the length of about 4km and width of 1 km, in 2008 people living in a single room were more then 20 in average. this over crowded situation made satwa more smelly, dirty and old. now i think that 30% of satwa has been demolished and nothing is made on free space.
still this old over crowded place is there and u can see people living in smelly dirty slums.but it is not crowded now as in 2008 bcoz of this crises thousands of the workers lost their jobs and went back to their countries and now i believe that average people living in satwa per room will be not more then 10-12. in few villas still u can see the local arab people r living there they have enough money to maintain their villas. do u want to know more about satwa? plz feel free to ask...........
@hassanhashaam Well yes in fact I would like to know what people at Satwa eat for lunch and what happens when they need to wash or go to the bathroom?
@XPlorer313 dear, dont compare satwa to those slums which r located in poor countries like india and africa. satwa is consists on the brick build villas which r now abandoned by local arabs and given on rent as i told u. so these villas have their washrooms also. but bcoz of over crowded place, these washrooms r dirty. in many villas people have wooden partition to use previous halls as rooms.
there r markets in satwa and everything is available there, so people cook for them their own food which they use in their countries. in satwa markets, u can see western tourists also roaming around.
@hassanhashaam Good Thank you, my projet is on the diffenrence in richness from Satwa compared to Dubai, so this is why I was asking so much questions, I wanted to try reaching the poorest side of Dubai. Thank you for your answers, it was amazing talkin to you.
@XPlorer313 dear I am still living very near to satwa but before I lived here for more than a couple of years. Tell me about the nature of ur project and what type of info u need about satwa,, thanx
