  • I imagine Johnny and June would have been upset but it was a good line anyway. Kinky signed it on the poster I bought but left out the asterisk - I imagine he shocked his folks now and then too.

Good luck with the chickens - and finding your offspring too.

  • @seanoneillsongs Thanks.

  • I think it was in the early '80s that Roseanne Cash, who was about 18 at that time, gave her first solo performance. Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash, her proud parents, were in the audience. At the very beginning of the show, Roseanne announced that she was about to "put the Cunt back in Country." Johnny and June were VERY upset.

  • @theoriginalbadbob Actually, it was Carlene Carter (June's daughter from her first marriage with Carl Smith) who said that. It was in '79 at a show in NYC, and she was introducing a song called "Swap-Meat Rag" from her "Two Sides to Every Woman" album. She didn't know Johnny and June were in the audience, the quip got massive amounts of press, and she spent the next decade trying to live it down.

  • @Matt421975 Thanks very much for the elucidation. I have been to hundreds of live shows, everything from Boxcar Willie to Barbra Streisand ('63,) and the very first show that I ever paid to see was Johnny Cash and the Carter Family, in '62, at the Gatorbowl Auditorium in Jacksonville.
