Africans (Westernized Africans) that have never set foot in Africa might have added their little own twist too the word but if you're from Nigeria you will know what Akata means. Akata means " A cat that does not live at home" it is used to describe african americans since they are black people who don't live in the continent of africa. The only time I've heard it used is when referring to the NEGATIVE characteristics of black americans.
