You start as the first officer on the smallest aircraft in the fleet (Fokker at that time) and progress through different aircraft as a first officer until you reach the biggest or the most valuable aircraft in the fleet (747 at that time). Then you come back to the smallest as captain and progress through each aircraft as captain.
