Flat-12 engines are generally not true horizontally opposed engines (boxer), but rather 180° V-engines. A true boxer has one crank pin per piston, while in the 180° V-engine, two opposing pistons share the same crank pin.
@Sephirius Rergardless of the firing order or any details about the crank's design, the two cylinder banks are horizontally opposed, 180 degrees. It IS a "boxer" engine sir.
@Sephirius "The Testarossa sports a 4.9 litre (4,943 cubic centimetres / 302 cubic inches) Ferrari Colombo flat-12 engine"- from Wikipedia. Think you may have lost this battle due to common sense sephirius haha.
But that's the thing, If I say flat 4 or flat six then everyone knows that it's a boxer motor, but a Flat 12 is a different monster. Yes it is 'flat' in the aesthetic sense, and can be called a flat 12 as such, the point was the fact that it is not a boxer motor. It's akin to the difference between a flat plane crank V8 and a crossplane crank one.
@Sephirius True boxers have each crankpin controlling only one piston/cylinder while 180° engines, which superficially appear very similar, share crankpins. The boxer engine (the true horizontally opposed engine) has corresponding pistons reaching top dead centre (TDC) simultaneously.
@Sephirius The 180° V engine has corresponding pistons sharing a crankpin on the crankshaft and reaching TDC half a crankshaft revolution apart. They may use regular connecting rods side by side, or use a master/slave system, or a fork-and-blade system. Flat engines with more than eight cylinders are most commonly V engines.

@Sephirius However painful defeat may feel to you, at some point you have to realize pursuing false information and attempting to spread it senselessly to other youtube viewers is degrading only you.
any car, well then I'll take a FXX & you in the 512 And we will have a little race at a race track where real racers race. I Promise you, I will win. enough said, do not reply with anymore Retarded comments EVER AGAIN. ciao!
Very nice ,but an engine rebuild on that baby will cost nearly 200 bucks.

Im sorry that sounds really weedy. Horrible. It's lost that Flat 12 boxer sound.
murcielagoboy 1 year ago
@murcielagoboy The 512TR's motor isn't a boxer though. It's technically a V12 with a 180 Degree bank angle.
Sephirius 11 months ago
@Sephirius Lol really? Explain how you get a V-shape out of 180 degrees. Think about what you're saying.
dan8852 10 months ago
@dan8852
I say that because the firing order and crankshaft design is that of a V12, not of a horizontally opposed V12.
Sephirius 10 months ago
@Sephirius er, Horizontally opposed Boxer 12. My bad.

@dan8852
Uh, no, a boxer refers SPECIFICALLY to the crank pin locations in a motor. It is NOT horizontally opposed.

I guess you missed the start of this, but the whole point is while it may be a flat-12, it is not a boxer motor.
