I'm just curious why someone would say "he looks ridiculous". Jussi looks pretty darn good in this. He's probably the thinnest at this point in his life. The soprano is a bit long in the tooth to be playing Gilda, but she sings well.

People should read the biography of Jussi Bjorling before casting aspersions on the man and his family.

Actually this is what AnnaLisa wanted us to hear, she never wanted the real truth to come forward, he was a periodical drunkard in truth. He was a marvellous singer, but many times a real horror to his family. He was unfaithful and he got a child out of wedlock during his wife were expecting her 1st...

As his wife considered it a horror, thats how I described it. She never asked anyth, knewing that she was the big love of his life, but that unfaithfulness/child was a catastrophy, a threat to the familys social standing and to his whole career. She kept it a secret for decades after his death even.

This wasn't London in 2009, but it happened in prewar Sweden where hypocritical morality ruled, and judgement was merciless.

ussi sang, but was short, overweight, poor, not educated or intelligent, with alcoholic tendencies and one illegit child (Rolf) to pay for. AnnaLisa was pretty (Stockholms beauty queen), wellborn, intelligent, talented (one of the lucky few to enter the musical academy, yes she sang very well), she was, considered a prize.

Her violent reaction when told that Jussi had produced kid no2 with an old woman, ONE MONTH after the wedding, isn't that hard to see, even for an atheist.

According to Pearlmoth (elsewhere) Jussi had bleeding ulcers, a bad heart , chest pains and spat blood, but was true to his art, even in the 90 degree Italian climate... It's not rocket science how he came by these afflictions; but is it not better to sing of a glass half full, than lament it half empty...???

Bjoerling posessed one of the most perfect tenor voices of all time. It's a shame he died so young.

He died in 1960 at age 49 exactly like Leonard Warren. Jussi had a massive heart-attack in his sleep.
