En la era de los albums Hopes and Fears y Under The Iron Sea, el pianista, Tim Rice Oxley, usaba un programa en su macbook para hacer el sonido del bajo y así poder guiarse por eso se oye en el fondo el bajo. Ahora con el nuevo álbum, Perfect Symmetry, los acompaña un bajista: Jesse Quinn y vaya q lo hace muy bien xD espero con eso haber respondido tu pregunta =D

NO, the pianist (Tim) is also the bassist. The bass is pre-recorded and played trough a Macbook pro, during live performances.

This year, a bassist friend of them (Jesse Quinn), joined the band to play the bass on live shows :)

I read on Wikipedia that Keane has a special sound because they like to use some unique piano samples. During live concerts they play them using the laptop you can clearly see next to the pianist. I'm not saying they're not backed up though.
