@jon3800 thanks so much for all of the info!! i just took out the and and wood louse in there. and you should check out a Kukulcania hibernalis. not exacly a T. but it is fairly large and docile. i should be posting a video in a few months when i get back from my break about what they are like and how often they should be handled. i own one, but she is VERY moody and i try to refrain from holding her. they are 5usd and a fascinating species.I would really consider this spider for your collection
that is a not a smart idea. Red ants and wood louse bugs, if you found them outside or in your house..you have NO idea where it's been and can carry either pesticides and harmful bacteria to your T. Just watch most of the feeding videos. You'll find that I use pinhead crickets bought from the pet store work best
hey jon, i have a question. i got my Desert blonde a few months ago, and it hasn't molted yet. it is still a sling and i know they molt quite often, but i still am wondering. Also, desert blondes are my favourite species at the moment, but on some pictures they are boring and brown, but on others, they are really quite pretty with all the gold. which is which? blonde=male or female? it has a black spot on its back if that helps determin the coloration?(sory for spelling im tired lol)
Actually A.chalcodes slings RARELY molt very often, even as slings. It HIGHLY depends on pictures and species. If it's old and blonde like the 2 that I have then they are mature females. Old specimens that Black with copper carapaces usually indicate mature males.
The black spot on the abdomen does NOT help determine the coloration. All Aphonopelma chalcodes slings have this. I own a desert blonde myself and has the same black spot
right if you power feed a male tarantula its life will last shorter what about a female what will happen if I power feed a female will its life last shorter or just the same cause I love power feeding my mexican red knee tarantula (girl)
I'm not sure if you saw my comments to you, but I've been telling you for a while now...that is problem with Grammostola rosea. They do not eat very often because of the slow growth rate. They fast and this is behavior that you SHOULD expect from this species...
1 month is nothing serious. My nearly year old rcf G.rosea sling refused for 4 months. There's no way to tell if they are hungry. Just dump in crickets or superworms in there and leave them for a couple of days
So, do T's liquify thier prey and leave the outer skin, like I have heard other spiders do? I am assuming they eat the whole thing because you never mention removing the leftovers and I never see any in the cages...sorry if this is a dumb question...just been wondering.
yes, but it depends on what their eating. I never get any leftovers because I always feed them like crickets and superworms. They will leave left overs if they're being fed mice, lizards, or frogs, which are dangerous to the T's health
@Jon3800 Thanks so much for the answer! So where does the outer part of the crickets and mealworms go? Does that part get liquifided as well? Sorry, I KNOW that's a dumb question, but.... lol. I don't get why people would want to feed thier pets food that is bad for them...simply for thier own twisted enjoyment... Horrid! But thanks again for the replies and posting such great videos!
Lowland I think... scared me so bad XD Popped outta the ground like a daisy! Scared me... But those were very neat and fun to watch. They're so fast... Yikes...
i hate 3 OBT slings and a MF G. Rosea and my rosea is the most docile t i have ever seen she has never reared up at me or anything but their temperment can change quickly when they get hungry:)
About crickets, how do you care for your crickets? I'm having a hard time keeping them alive :S and the shop where i buy them from sometimes runs out of crickets.
I do have a video that I uploaded a week ago called Tarantula feeding regiments.
I buy 300 crickets, give them eggcartons to hide, vermiculite as substrate and crickets, lettuce and dry dog food as their food. They last me about 3-4 weeks
There's a secret to these videos if you note them, its genius :) keep following the feeding videos after this one until 34, (35 is scheduled to be aired this week) and note the dates when they were uploaded...that's my feeding schedule. I feed all at the same day and I record the best attacks
Aha, a good system... Yeah man, I have to admit that some of those attacks were pretty intense. It would take me some getting used to, being around all of those intimidating creatures!
o jon i have a question,i bought a rosehair and i held him at the petstore and he was so docile and when i put my big twesers in his cage he walked up to it and tried to hold it and was tring to puncture it with his fangs, and it scared me i thought i would never hold him again but i put an adult cricet in there and he ate it faster than your pokeis, so was it just beacuse he was hungry?
Roseas are really temperamental tarantulas they can be docile and/or aggressive its a hit and miss, which why I never recommend them as great beginners.
Its probably A.seemanni fast in eating, move pokie fast, and my guess it was really hungry
I don't know, but for some reason, my G. rosea got used to me. When I go to change her water bowl, she crawls out of her tank, and I let her crawl on me. At first she was nasty, though, so I see where you're coming from. But now she's really nice. The only time I see her move really quickly is if she goes to snatch a cricket, or if she gets sprayed, but then she just runs up the terrarium glass like she wants to be sprayed.
well i have three t's. b. smithi sling. which i feed 5 pin heads to every 2 weeks. i have an adult g. rosea i feed it 6 every 2 weeks. and i just pretty much saved a chaco golden knees life at this terrible pet store. i have not feed that one yet because the night i got her she molted. andi got her monday
the chaco was the first molt i've ever experienced. it was scary at first when i saw her on her back because i heard about how molts can go wrong but it was succesful. now i know why you love molts. thanks
I noticed that when a tarantula is hanging around the entrance of their shelter, they are ready to strike anything that dares enter their house. I'm referring to your L. difficilis. Luckily though the lasidora species isn't all that defensive, it's just probably in a bad mood.

can i feed my chile rose hair worms?
budgiehd 1 year ago
@budgiehd
yes
Jon3800 1 year ago
(noticed some of the comments) Sometimes I get leftovers (crickets). They are just small 1/4 or 1/2 inch mushed up balls.
When I fed my T 4 small crickets the other day, I got 1 leftover thats all. I think it depends on the size of the T and the cricket you feed it.
