I remember when apprenticeship programs only hired through nepotism. Has it really changed that much? I don't think so.

Now days it's based on the amount of trainies brought in. The state help to fund the training. The more apprentices, the more money. if a apprentice drops out, the program keeps the money. As when I join the program. The class started with 168. by the end of the 4 years there were only 17 to turn out. They also know the kids of today refuse to give the sacrifices it takes to be a apprentice.

Why are you only concerned with whether TRADES are unionized? Most workers aren't in a particular trade. A lot of office workers aren't unionized(I assume you accept that office workers count as workers). A lot of people in big box stores(like the place that sounds like "HellMart")fast food employees, Starbucks. Working people who aren't "tradesmen" are just as deserving of union representation as joiners, plumbers, etc.

And it's meaningless to say you've got the right to organize when management gets to drag out the organizing process and then gets to refuse to recognize or negotiate with the union when its obvious that the union's won the representation election.

There are very few trades that don't have a union. Nothing wrong with making the union bigger. There is something wrong with forcing companies to go union, then when the company cloces it doors because of being forced. Now you have many people on welfare.
